Code of Ethics in Professional Organizations Professional operations usually involve interpersonal interactions which may expose the practitioners to ethical dilemmas. In order to be able to work effectively in spite of ethical dilemmas, various professional organizations have well laid down codes of ethical conduct. The code of ethics in professional organizations provide standards for ethical conducts among professionals making it easy to make decisions during ethical dilemmas. One such organization is the NASW. Social workers core objective is to improve the welfare of people while also ensuring access to basic needs. Because of this, the social workers have to experience interactions with their clients. Without the ethics standards, it may be difficult for social workers to consider their roles as professional. The NASW code of ethics provides standards which require effective resource distribution and administration. The code also stipulates the mandate to operate professionally in an organized manner in order to avoid inefficiency. Moreover, it requires professionals to uphold competency, respect for human dignity and to avoid any sexual relations with the clients (Woodside & McClam, 2011).

The NOHS code of ethics on the other hand outlines goals and objectives of workers tasked with human services such as mental health and gerontology. The most important values in this code include respect for human dignity, autonomy, client empowerment, respect for diversity and readiness to impart skills among others (Neukrug, 2011). Despite the similarities between the two codes, there are also a few differences between the two. While the NOHS provides a list of values, the NASW code does not. Moreover, the NOHS code focuses on autonomy while the NASW code allows the professionals to limit self- determination. Both codes encourage members to know their limits. They also encourage honesty and integrity in their dealings. References Neukrug, E. (2011). Counseling theory and practice. Australia: Brooks/Cole, Cengage Learning. Woodside, M., & McClam, T.
