ou might not expect it, given its relative small size and the bad rap it sometimes gets as the capital of conservative South Carolina, but Columbia actually has a pretty big arts scene, with various events packing each fall and spring. Indeed, it gets so busy this time of year that you can hardly keep up with it all. That’s where the annual Free Times Cultural Season calendar comes in. Here, you’ll find listings for many upcoming artsrelated events, including arts exhibitions;

classical, choral and opera performances; films; theatrical productions; dance performances; literary events; and more. For further information about specific events, your best bet is to follow organizations’ websites and Facebook pages — and to check Free Times in print and online (free-times.com) regularly. Some schedules will change — and more than a few events not listed here will be announced in the coming months — so be sure to check with the specific organization or venue as dates approach.
