eaky Blinders. We rather enjoy that show and apart from the flat vowels and casual violence we love the cars. Those pre-war cars are not always easy to identify if you can't see the radiator grille. Anyway such British delights as ACs and Austin 12/4s, plus wonderful continental ones like Citroens, Cynos, Fiat 501s, lovely Yanks like the Cadillac V-63 and Brit built Ford Models Ts. In the latest series the Peakys are doing so well that they seem to have a Bentley on the fleet, although there have been plenty in the series. Bentleys on the Beeb and our cover means that here is a wonderful excuse to help celebrate the fact that the remarkable company is 100 years old. Obviously Free Car Mag would have one like a shot and there is still time for us to go and get one. At the moment we'd quite like a Bentayga. Back to TV and Mission Ignition on Channel 4 is our new favourite programme. Competitive classic car building, finish it faster than the other team and win the car. Brilliant. See you next time.

The Science of Supercars explores the technology that drives the world’s most incredible performance cars, with interviews and illustrations from some of the industry’s most revered experts. Attended by the likes of ex-Formula One racing driver, David Coulthard, and Red Bull Racing Chief Technical Officer, Adrian Newey, the star-studded event was held on the lower floor of the historic showroom, recently subject to a multi-million-pound renovation.

Jack Barclay Bentley had some of its very own supercars on display, including the all-new 626bhp Continental GT W12 and one of Bentley’s earliest supercars, the Bentley 4 ½ Litre. Jack Barclay – the UK’s largest and oldest Bentley dealership – retains many of its key original features, including the iconic chequered floor, wood-panelling and art deco signage. The H.R. Owen flagship dealership, Jack Barclay, has been operating in Mayfair since 1927 and although traditionally just a London-based business, the company now has locations in five counties in addition to their six London showrooms – Cheltenham (Gloucestershire), Pangbourne (Berkshire), Byfleet (Surrey), St. Albans (Hertfordshire) as well as Stockport (Greater Manchester). 4 freecarmag.com

The drivers of the “Alfa Romeo Racing” Formula One team experienced a day steeped in the Alfa Romeo brand ethos at the famous Balocco Proving Ground. It was here, at the famous Autodelta site, that the very first Alfa Romeo models were assembled. Since then, its sporting legend has been a string of victories and top-three finishes in many international championships, including Formula One. The brand won the very first edition of the Grand Prix championship in 1950, with Nino Farina driving an Alfa Romeo158. And the following year, Juan Manuel Fangio repeated this Formula One season victory in an Alfa Romeo 159.

LEWIS HAMILTON TRIBUTE IS AN ART CAR CLASSIC

Paul Karslake FRSA, the celebrated contemporary artist, is also a self-confessed car nut and a lifetime fan of Lewis Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton’s fifth F1 World Championship. It triggered a frenzy of all-hours action by Paul at his Leigh-on-Sea studio from which has emerged his uniquely-powerful tribute to Hamilton and his team, in the shape of a stunningly-liveried and uprated 155mph Mercedes-Benz CLK 500 of 2002 vintage. “I just love the livery on Lewis’s F1 car” said Paul, “and that started the whole thing off. “This RHD 5-litre CLK 500 was the ideal weapon to base it on, but it looked a little conservative so I thought I’d go to town on it - After all, it is a sporty Avantgarde version”. We were there when the European Car of the Year Award was unexpectedly presented to Ian Callum for the Jaguar I-PACE which has a state-of-the-art 90kWh Lithium-ion battery. It beat the Alpine A110 to become European car of the Year in a nail biting tie break, the I-PACE ultimately trumping after adjudication of total first placed votes. With its concept car looks and next-generation artificial intelligence, it is set to be the perfect everyday EV consumers have been waiting for. Designed and engineered in the UK, the I-PACE is built at Plant Graz, Austria, as part of Jaguar Land Rover’s manufacturing partnership with Magna Steyr. It joins Jaguar’s growing family of SUVs, alongside the all-new E-PACE and multiple award-winning F-PACE.

MINI BY DAVID BROWN & TWISTED DEFENDERS

On the face of it these are Minis and Land Rovers, but they do have a bit of a twist. Indeed in the case of the Land Rover those are major reworkings by Twisted. As for the Mini that’s Remastered by David Brown. Twisted may be the choice of Formula One driver Max Chilton, but even mere mortals can buy one too. All they need is the imagination and money to commission Twisted to build their ultimate Defender. On the David Brown Automotive show stand in Geneva, a trio of iconic Mini Remastered cars are on display that have been specified to show off the qualities of the all-new options list. For instance CitroĂŤn is celebrating its centenary with three iconic models bearing the centenary colours: Type A, Traction and 2CV. This Traction was on the Motorworld stand and we rather liked the patina and coolness of it all. However the abscence of several major manufacturers free up a lot of space which explains why there was some much characterful old stuff there. We actually think that is a good thing. Perhaps motor shows are going to change and already the Detroit Motor Show is sheduled to move to a less freezing cold time of the year, be outside and include classics. More like Goodwood in fact. Perhaps we are witnessing the end of the traitional indoor, static event.

We loved the classic 1965 2.0 911 on the Porsche stand and like many this year it had the addition of a rather cool ski rack. At the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, the Scorpion brand celebrated its 70th anniversary. Abarth introduced the 595 as a homologation special at the 1963 Turin show. Abarth built its first 500-based models by purchasing complete cars from Fiat and modifying them in its workshop. Then in1963, Fiat agreed to provide Abarth with partially-assembled cars. T Customers could either buy a finished 595 from Abarth, or purchase wooden crates containing all the parts needed to turn a homely 500 into a Scorpion. “I wanted to somehow immortalise the design of a car�, admits Alexandre Farto, better known as Vhils.
