One of the reasons it is so important to own your own business if you desire freedom is that it gives you control and self-reliance. Why are these two things so important? I read about the ideas of control and self-reliance in the book ‘Ask’ by Ryan Levesque (an excellent marketing book by the way). Levesque realised that in order to do great things in life he had to be in control of his own destiny. He was very successful working for a corporation but he finally understood that he wanted to rely only on himself for his future. For me this strikes a very strong chord. If you work for a company, you are always at the mercy of that company to some extent. We will always rely on the company for more pay, a bigger mandate, more responsibility etc. However if you build and operate you own internet business, you have control over your life. If there is something you want to accomplish or achieve, you are relying on nobody but yourself to make it happen. If you want to become rich, it is almost impossible to do so working for someone else – they always have the control over what you earn. Building your own business means that your income is only limited by your vision, work-rate, dedication and mastery of your craft.
Control, Self Reliance and Freedom If you want to become truly free, you have to rid yourself of anything that prevents you from relying on yourself for your success and income. Think of it like this: If you have a job and a boss, you are usually tied to one place which means you are not free If you work for a company you are tied to the company’s objectives, not your own If you are employed, you develop only the skills that the company wants you to Owning your own business, on the other hand, means that the world is your oyster. You can learn what you decide to learn. You can choose what to specialise in, what to work on, how to serve others etc. You have control, and you rely on yourself for the results you achieve. The other thing about a job is that it gives you the ‘employment’ mindset. You become used to the safety net of the job and being told what to do. However it’s a double-edged sword because you then can’t leave for fear of the world ‘outside’ the job. In short, you become used to being a cog in the wheel.
Freedom and building an online business All of this is why, for me, learning how to build an online business is the ultimate goal when it comes to freedom. You can operate an online business from anywhere, anytime. You can also automate online businesses easily because you can use the internet to put systems in place. These systems will ensure the business continues to work and make money while you are sleeping, holidaying or

working on something else. The other thing about an online business is that it is completely scalable. You can grow the business – and your income – as large as you want. All it takes is learning, dedication and overcoming your limitations – particularly in the beginning. You can ultimately serve as many people as you want!
Rely on yourself, take control All of that sounds very nice, but first you have to be prepared to take back control of your life. You have to get out of the employment mindset and make the clear choice to rely only on yourself. If you are prepared to focus on control and self-reliance, grow an online business and expand your reach; then money and time freedom can be yours. Take control of your own life!
