One definition of tolerance is “a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward opinions and practices that differ from one’s own.”

It’s easy to respect people who you have a lot in common with, but respecting others’ right to think and be different is even more important.

Tolerance, in a way, is simply accepting people as they are. Most people come with a lot of virtues and a few defects, some positive and a little negative, always some plus and always some minus.

Being tolerant requires patience and forgiveness. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. We should be especially tolerant of those we have a hard time getting along with.

Practice looking for good in others. Remember that you can have only one thought in your mind at once; if it is a positive thought of another, you have no need to strain for tolerance, you have achieved it!
