1 LOCATION, 8 WEEKS, 3000+ GRADUATE ARTISTS, 60+ ART, DESIGN & FASHION SHOWS, TENS OF THOUSANDS OF VISITORS_ CELEBRATING THE 10TH ANNUAL FREE RANGE, EUROPE’S LARGEST GRADUATE ART & DESIGN SHOW_ DEDICATED WEEKLY SCHEDULES FOR: ART, PHOTOGRAPHY, DESIGN, FASHION & INTERIORS SHOWS_ Since its inception 10 years ago Free Range has become the number one platform & launchpad for graduates to showcase their work both to the public & creative industry. Attracting visitors numbers to rival the largest art events in the capital, the Free Range exhibitions present the work of thousands graduates from art & design universities around the UK, in several distinct categories over 8 weeks. Always fresh and exciting, Free Range embraces all the creative disciplines, including art, graphics & design, photography, architecture, interiors (including product & furniture design) & textiles. This year’s innovations include a brand new fashion category with three catwalk shows & an expanded interiors category, while educational charity D&AD are bringing New Blood, their creative talent show, to Free Range for the first time. To celebrate Free Range’s 10 year anniversary, we are also excited to launch our brand new Free Range Awards in association with Culture label.com. The Free Range Awards panel of creative industry experts will be selecting five of the best art & photography graduates exhibiting at Free Range 2010, & exclusive limited edition prints of the winners’ work will be available to buy both at Free Range and at culturelabel.com. The overarching ethos of Free Range is accessibility. It is this ethos & a welcoming, all-embracing approach that singles it out from other art & design fairs & is key to the show’s success & longevity. Free Range provides new graduates with their first real opportunity to engage with the general public, future clients & potential employers, as well as making connections with each other, sparking relationships that can take them on new creative journeys. We’re still in touch with many who came through Free Range & are now well established in their chosen fields. Free Range was originally conceived by the Old Truman Brewery over 10 years ago as a regeneration project, alongside Fashion East &
93 Feet East. This, together with the creative industry minded regeneration of the Old Truman Brewery site, has been a highly successful long term strategy that has brought people & businesses flocking into the Brick Lane area & established it as a creative hub. Since then Free Range has taken on a life of its own & become a key fixture in the calendar for the creative industry, as well as for an artloving public who have free entry & direct access to exhibitors, adding to the uniquely vibrant experience that the show offers during its 2 month residency. The Free Range format has been so successful that it is now being studied internationally as a potential model to be emulated by arts & design communities elsewhere, with interest being shown in Portugal, India & Japan as well as the North of England. Free Range, together with our headline sponsor, Perrier, & our partners London Graphic Centre, theprintspace, Blurb, Art Review, Grafik, Computer Arts, Dezeen & British Journal of Photography, supports the new generation of artists & designers, providing a one-stop shop for the industry, creatives & public to discover the cream of each year’s crop. We hope you enjoy Free Range 2010.

F BLOCK T2 ARCHIPELAGO The exhibition uses as its conceptual pivot the idea of the archipelago, taken literally as arci (inuenced by) & pelagus (a sea). The context the student artists are working within here is the ocean of 21st century discursive art practices, in which they have taken up position in clusters or islands united by a common name.

SHOP 14 Play it! / www.intranet.lcc.arts.ac.uk/hub As part of the design pathway ‘Interaction and Moving Image’, we as designers & artists intend to convey all that is provocative & emotionally evocative, by way of our specialist field. Our interest in people’s behaviour & our perception of space & time lay at the heart of what we do, aiming to express versatility within our work. Complexity, irrationality, contradiction & perplexity are all adjectives that could sum-up some of our life experiences. This is where we start our play with interaction, to create experiences of the world we know, in a realm never before fathomed: this is our vision.
