I show my friends and family I love them by making them homemade gifts. For this quilt I used a technique where I designed the quilt in Photoshop then printed it out actual size. Next, I cut the image apart and traced the pieces on fabric and sewed them together.

"2020, Sew Chaotic" explains this year! The chaos has been a real hurricane of issues, but when I sew, all those issues melt away. I look at this quilt and I see that I turned the chaos into happiness, from the eye of the storm to the outer bands. I used English Paper Piecing to piece the top and a domestic sewing machine to free-motion quilt it. I used the Tula Pink HomeMade Aurifil thread line (50wt - 5004, 6727, 2026, 2835, 2220, 5002, 2479, 2535, 2582, 5015, 1231, 2860, 1320, 2730) from start to finish, incorporating every color in the line. The fabric is comprised of Tula Pink HomeMade, Pom Poms and Stripes, and Designer Solids.

You are looking at me designing a quilt in my imaginary house, surrounded with favorite things: books, spools, birds on the bird feeder, flowers, flying geese. I am zooming in from the stars to the outer layer of flying gees, to inner layer of my favorite places, to my room in a house. used 1/4" hexies for EPP, hand embroidery, paper piecing, applique, few decorative buttons (flowers, cat, bird in a cage, matrioshka, sewing machine)

I've been quilting for 6 years. My daughter learned to quilt, so I wanted to learn as a bonding activity. This is an original design made by using two patterns along with my own designs. It was quilted on my embroidery machine using Aurifil 50 weight thread in Spring Green.

Seven years ago at 25, I was diagnosed with Lupus, an autoimmune disorder. I realized that a major “trigger” for a flare-up, for me personally, was any excessive sun exposure. My mother realized before I did that to stay physically healthy and emotionally well, I needed to find hobbies and interests that could be done indoors. Being a sewist herself, she bought me my first “real” sewing machine, my beloved Bernina. The rest is history! I fell in love with discovering quilt patterns, putting together fabric choices and colors, and watching projects come to life. I watched video tutorials, explored internet sites, and then found Instagram – which has provided a wealth of inspiration.

I can't say enough about Tula Pink's unique fabric collections which are perfect for my obsession with English paper piecing and fussycutting. In my original design for this quilt I used Tula Pink's HomeMade fabric collection and many colors of Aurifil 50 wt. thread. The techniques I used are English paper-piecing, foundation paper-piecing and needleturn applique. The Tula Pink HomeMade fabric collection depicts many tools that crafters use to fulfill their desires to create beautiful things. The benefits for me is having a community with other crafters and quilters and to bring joy and beauty to my life and our world.

I wanted to create something that really spoke to all creators and I love peacocks and as soon as I got my fabric and saw the rotary cutters I immediately invisioned them inside peacock feathers. Peacocks symbolize vision, self expression, spirituality, awareness, guidance, freedom and protection. I chose the title Validation because I believe as artists we get validation from what we create, it is a part of us and we are all peacocks in a sense, creating and sharing with those around us and beyond.

After making Tula’s Nova I pondered 3 Nova’s colliding. Playing with geometry and color placement, new patterns emerged. Aurifil 50 weight was used in the piecing (4060, 2310, 2600, 2311) and quilting (2860, 4093, 2425, 2423, 2710, 2810, 4020, 2845). Free motion quilted with love on “Bonnie” (Tula Bernina 770).

My love of sewing comes from my grandmother who taught me to quilt over 40+ years ago and my mum who taught me to English Paper Piecing by hand using scraps from the clothes she made. I made this with inspiration to create. I created the pattern using different resources first starting with EQ8 to create the pattern, Piecing, Applique using Scan and Cut for Letters with Aurifil Thread satin stitch, Tula ribbon, embroidery from Tula Homemade Collection and Anita Goodesign “Sewing and Embroidery Periodic Table “
