18 FREETIME June 10- - June 24, 2015
FREETIME MAGAZINE’S GUIDE TO THE 14th ANNUAL XEROX ROCHESTER INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL FREETIME loves JAZZTIME!
by Sue Cannon
There’s nothing quite like Jazztime here in Rochester. It’s your chance to catch top international and regional musicians performing live - day & night - from June 19 thru 27 at the 2015 Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival. •Free Performances are a mainstay of the festival; and there will be ninety-three this year at six venues! There are also free Jazz Workshops for elementary and high school students at the Eastman School; and free Jam Sessions at the State Street Bar & Grill each night from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. (Why waste time sleeping?) •Club Pass venues host two-hundred-and-twenty concerts in thirteen venues. Admission to these events is either by the pre-purchased Club Pass, or by tickets purchased at the door for $20 each ($25 for Kilbourn Hall) - cash only. It’s important to note that seating is on a first-come, first-served basis by either pass or ticket - so arrive early. •Headliner Series concerts are presented in Kodak Hall @ Eastman Theatre, 26 Gibbs Street, each day. Tickets to these shows must be purchased separately. Be aware that some are currently sold out; and Club Passes are not valid for these shows. This FREETIME JAZZTIME GUIDE takes an hourly approach to the festival schedule. So, grab your calendar or appointment book, and start checking out who will be playing when and where. It takes knowledge and strategy to make the most of this event! Editor’s Note - While the XRIJF is slated for June 19 thru 27, we have provided information here on performances offered during this issue of FREETIME only, which runs through June 24. The remaining concerts will be covered next time. However, complete details on all the Jazz Fest shows are available 24-7 @ www.freetime.com in our FREETIME JAZZTIME GUIDE and at www.rochesterjazz.com.
