Our way forward, together towards more sustainable logistics
Welcome to “Our way forward”, the sustainability report for Greencarrier Freight Services. As the title gives away, this report does not only attempt to summarize what we have achieved so far – but above all it lays the foundation for our ambitions and goals going forward.
For me, sustainability is about balance. For instance, balance between making things more sustainable while staying relevant in our offer to our customers. It’s not about making sacrifices – but rather about evolution and making things smarter and better. It’s essentially about the ability to use the worlds resources wisely, and at the same time be able to offer a competitive solution to the market. This needs to be done in collaboration with all stakeholders involved in our services and offer. Making logistics more sustainable means that we must think in new ways and challenge old mindsets, our own as well as others’. But one thing is certain – that’s something we at Greencarrier Freight Services really thrive in doing! It is our strong ambition to be in the forefront of innovative and sustainable logistics, and our vision is clear: To become top of mind for sustainable logistics solutions. A year of change and supply chain disruptions 2021 was an extremely exciting year for us. Business was excelling, despite many global challenges that we handle each day. Notable was that both our Customer Satisfactions score and our Employee Engagement scores reached an all-time high, as did our turnover of +550MEUR. We continued, together with our customers to refine our sustainable offers to the market and are ready to stay relevant for the long-term. We were also warmly welcomed into JAS Worldwide, which has been our partner for a long time and since November 1st our new owners. This means that we are now part of a global logistics group with presence in more than 50 countries and more than 6000 employees. Our offer will be stronger, while we still stay the experts here in Greencarrier Freight Services home markets. Together with JAS we will continue to have a strong focus on providing more sustainable logistics solutions to our customers, helping them to make good decisions and reducing their emissions. 6
Customer in focus Our customers mean everything to us, building personal bonds and creating long term relations with our customers had always been our hallmark. To stay relevant we always need to be on top of their needs and also challenge them to improve together with us. In 2021 we launched a strategic initiative called Customer Care – The Greencarrier Way. This initiative is basically about making the customer journey even better and in the process we have collected input from clients and involved our employees in sharing good initiatives suggestions. We believe that experienced and passionate employees will make all the difference also in the future, and in turn ensure excellent customer care People make the difference In our new owner we have a strong common mindset: People Make the Difference. This is nothing new to us, it is something that we truly live by, and it is also part of why our companies are such a great cultural match. Our business is essentially all about the people and relationships. Our people make great things happen each day, and I am so proud of the amazing staff we have within Greencarrier Freight Services. This mindset is something that we will continue to build on together with JAS Worldwide. We want to be the best place to work, now and in the future.
Looking forward Looking ahead into 2022 and beyond I can see that the logistics industry is needed more than ever and that functioning supply chains is on every company’s priority list. There are so many uncertainties in the world, and conditions change each day. As an expert in logistics, we are used to this and it’s in our DNA to be flexible, agile, and creative. Each day our knowledgeable employees ensure that our global, and local, value chains run smoothly. And each day we challenge ourselves to also do it in a more sustainable way. The development is moving rapidly, and so will we. This is our fifth sustainability report, a report that will give you a greater understanding of what sustainability means to us and how we work towards our vision of being top of mind for sustainable logistics solutions. I’m both extremely proud of what we have achieved within Greencarrier Freight Services so far, but mostly I’m excited about our many opportunities ahead. So please take some time to check out “Our way forward”, I hope you will enjoy the reading! Mikael Forsberg CEO Greencarrier Freight Services, a JAS Company

Our view on sustainability

FOUR PERSPECTIVES
Sustainability from different perspectives
Our ambitions within sustainability influence everything we do, every day, with the aim to act sustainable for the long term. It involves how we conduct business, how we treat our employees and colleagues, how we see ourselves as a citizen in the society and the world around us, and how we contribute to a sustainable development for the environment. We work with sustainability from four different perspectives, which is shown in the model, with our core values in the center. Our values define who we are and what we stand for and provide the foundation for our work. Environment: We believe in the importance of environmental protection and improvement for the long term. Our ambition is to use best possible environmental practice whenever we can. Employees: We take pride in our employees and strive to be a good employer. By investing in their well-being and development we get qualified and highly motivated employees.
Business: By conducting business according to ethical, professional and legal standards we are a fair and honest business partner and we evaluate our suppliers according to these standards. We stand for quality and personal commitment. Society: We want to be a responsible corporate citizen and we believe that by caring for the world around us, and the people in it, we become a better business partner and employer. We base our work on UN’s Global Compact, which provides guidelines for ethical business based on human rights, employment rights, environmental awareness and anti-corruption.

Contributing to global goals
10
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
In 2015, 193 world leaders in the United Nations agreed to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. If these goals are completed, it would mean an end to extreme poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030. To reach the goals we all have to get involved, and this is our contribution.
How we contribute to the Global Goals for Sustainable Development We have reviewed all 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development and their 169 Targets, and evaluated where we can make most impact. We have defined five prioritized goals based on our four focus areas. Goal 7 Affordable and clean energy We should develop our transportation products towards an increased use of clean energy, as well as increasing the use of clean energy in our offices and premises. Read more on page 18. Goal 8 Decent work and economic growth We should run our company with a long term perspective to enable economic growth. We have the ambition to be the most attractive employer in the industry. Read more on page 30-37. Goal 10 Reduced inequalities We should promote an inclusive work place where people are treated equal. We should work towards equality, fairness and the empowerment of everyone irrespective of origin, religion, gender, age, etc. Read more on page 30-37.
Goal 12 Responsible consumption and production We should develop our products to become environmentally smarter. We should ensure responsible handling of waste from our offices and other premises. We should report what we do to develop our work with sustainability. Read more on page 14-29. Goal 13 Climate action We should lower our emissions on delivered transport products. We should work to promote green initiatives in our offices and premises. We should promote actions towards cleaner land and oceans by engaging in external networks and evaluating our suppliers. We should develop products that contribute to our environmental goals. Read more on page 14-29.

HOW WE WORK
How we work with sustainability Sustainability is an integrated part in all we do. Here are some examples of how we keep the work moving forward. Since many years back we have worked strategically and inclusive all over the organization with sustainability, to truly include this ambition into everything we do. The work has been carried out cross-functionally and in different teams and networks. This way driving our work with sustainability forward together as an organization. The Quality and Environment Coordinatior of Greencarrier Freight Services in turn works closely with the Group Head of Sustainability as well as Freight Services management, product management and ISO teams., to name a few internal key stakeholders. Major goals and ambitions are discussed and anchored with CEO and in the leadership team of Greencarrier Freight Services. In 2019 we set up our network of Green Ambassadors from all our Greencarrier Freight Services countries. They play a very important role for our ambitions and vision, and their task is to help and push everyone in the company to become more sustainable and improve our green agenda. But also to drive the customer dialogue towards greener solutions.
The Green Ambassador Network works together as a team over country borders, together with a core team of sustainability professionals from our organisation, and follows up on progress and best practice regularly. Read more on page 19. We also have a Green Office coordinator-network with a representative in each office. They help all offices improve their local environmental work. Read more on page 18. We also use our e-learning platform to spread knowledge internally and in 2020 we launched a new training for all employees about sustainability and our ambitions. This training is a mandatory training for all employees. Our work with sustainability goes beyond this, as it is an important part of our vision and strategy and the day to day work in Greencarrier Freight Services. A lot of the work directly related to the operations. As one important tool in our continous improvements we use our ISO framework. Read more om page 17. In the following sections you will learn more about our overall work and actions within each of the four perspectives: environment, employees, business and society. 15
Strategic and systematic quality work
16
HOW WE WORK
ISO helps us on our way forward The ISO structure and ways of working organizes our way to conduct our business in a sustainable way. The structure also gives a temperature on the business today. This is how we structure, measure and follow-up Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) For us it all starts with the PDCA cycle an d the will to constantly improve. Plan -do- check-act, can be used to everything in your daily life from grocery shopping to iso strategy. First you make a PLAN for how to reach your goal, for instance for how you will lower your emissions. In the plan you make an action list on how to lower the emissions. Then you DO the actions planned, and then CHECK that we measure the emissions and quality, and if our customers and employees are happy. After evaluating, we ACT and make new actions. In our case we set new targets, make new action lists, trim our processes and then the cycle starts all over again. To do all this consequently we also need a structure for when and how things are done within our company. That is called the high-level structure and the ISO standard is a big help in getting organized, together with our processes.
Our processes are constantly developing and our process managers are communicating with our staff on different levels all from operations, product and management. We are process driven and by working the same way in all offices we can guarantee our customers the same good services no matter where in the world you as a customer needs our assistance. We constantly improve and are driven to do so together with our suppliers, customers and employees. We are basing our decisions on evidence that we receive from both our statistics and the result we get from our different evaluations. We measure and follow-up on our KPIs where quality, environment and emissions are a big part. We visualize the progress for all employees in meetings with the help of our tool Power BI, making it easy to understand. In all work with ISO the constant dialogue and exchange of information is extremely important. This is a dialog betweenmanagement and employees as well as with customers and suppliers. This way we build strong relationships where we can grow together.

Our work towards a better environment
A customer’s point of view:
– Protecting the climate is in our corporate DNA. We have high climate performance on our products, which we are very proud of, and every part of the supply chain contributes to this. Since logistics is a big part of our operations, it is very important that we find a sustainable solution. Sustainability should not only start with production – it should start already when we collect the residue – with our transportations. We measure our CO2 emission levels and actively work with our logistic partners to reduce them by optimizing routes and the fill factor of the containers. Choosing the right logistics partner is crucial for our business. We wanted someone that shares our values and provides transport solutions that are as friendly to the climate as possible, with whom we can work to improve our supply chain Victoria Edwards Done Recycling Manager Lantmännen Agroetanol 20
Logistics is a massive part of our modern world now, with manufacturing and industry often no longer being “local” which means often goods can attract a huge carbon foot print before arriving at their final required destination. Logistics is a large part of that, so we need to make sure we are looking at the best solutions to reduce the impact of the supply chain on this carbon footprint to work towards a healthier planet. Katy Bonham Branch Manager, Midlands Greencarrier Freight Services UK ”It is our ambition to make it simple for our clients to switch to sustainable alternatives without having to recreate their entire supply chain”. Ari Malvela Malvela, Head of Road Freight Greencarrier Freight Services. International
HOW WE WORK: ENVIRONMENT
Over the years, we have taken various actions to minimise the environmental impact of our operations. Our ambition is to apply the best environmental practice in everything we do and we strive to continue to improve.
A global perspective and our view on sustainable logistics The transportation sector accounts for 14% of all energy related C02-emissions globally and has more than doubled since the 70’s. In the EU the transportation sector generates 25% of all transportation C02-emissions. Without actions and measures, this could increase faster than any other sector. The message is clear from both EU and many of the member countries - we need to become more efficient and make a shift in technology to enable us to reach the goals of a climate neutral Europe by 2050. Global transports emit a lot of greenhouse gases, but it is also the foundation of any economy as it enables people to be linked, goods to be exchanged, and cities to be structured. Therefore limiting transportation is not the solution; the solution is sustainable and in the future entirely fossil free transportation. This meets the increasing demand of exchanging goods around the world at the same time as emissions are reduced. The key approaches to achieve sustainable transportation are as follows: 1. Optimizing: Avoiding unnecessary transportation, which includes increasing load factors, using appropriate modes at each link of the transportation chain and further logistical planning powered by digitalization and innovation.
2. Modal shifts: Transportation modes that have high emissions should be shifted to more environmentally smart ones when possible, and intermodal solutions with a combination of transport modes should be developed. 3. Improving: We should improve and develop transportation technology through innovations including cleaner fuels and electrification, shifting to alterative modes of transport and using innovation to find smarter solutions. It is crucial that actors within the transportation sector engage in joint efforts and collaborate towards the same goal to reduce our negative impact on the environment and prevent climate change. In the coming pages you can read more about what we do to improve our logistics solutions. 21
Why environmental improvement is an important part of our business We provide transport solutions with all modes of transport all over the world. We have environmental actions within 3 focus areas and the strategy includes developing our Green Solutions and using optimization of goods flow to reach higher load factors, shorter lead times and lower CO2 emissions. Green is a part of our DNA and our strategy. In order to be truly green we need to perform with high quality and that combination for us is to be sustainable. We do not do quick fixes we work long-term. We work in cooperation with our suppliers to be even better tomorrow and have more sustainable solutions. Our main focus is to reduce the emissions and when we have done all we can, then we offset with our partner Solvatten. We help (assists) our customer to become climate heroes. We have the knowledge and tools to make a difference. We strive to reduce the use of resources and prevent pollution of the air, water and soil and thereby constantly improving our environmental performance. As a minimum, we comply with laws, ordinances, regulations and other requirements. It all starts with knowledge We want to challenge the market with new and more sustainable solutions. Our general ambition is to work in close partnership with our customers to provide competence and inspiration within greener transportation. This all starts with knowledge. We continuously train our employees about sustainability and environmental challenges and improvements to raise
the awareness of the environmental aspects of our business. We have had a mandatory environmental training in our online Academy since 2017, and in 2020 we launched a brand new Sustainability Training which is mandatory for all employees. Reducing our CO2 emissions A survey conducted within Greencarrier Freight Services in 2015 showed three significant environmental aspects with respect to emissions of CO2: 1/ Our delivered transport products 2/ Our business trips 3/ Our offices and facilities The first aspect – our delivered transport products - accounted for more than 99% of our total CO2 emissions. This clearly shows how important it is for us to measure our emissions carefully and develop our transport products to become more environmentally responsible and smart. We also take responsibility for being conscious about packaging. With that knowledge we can help our customers make the right choices.A main focus for us is to develop environmentally smart solutions and transport products, in collaboration with our suppliers and customers.
Our Environmental Goals Relative emissions reduced: 2022: Reduce the total CO2e per TONKM by 15% compared to 2018. 2025: Reduce total CO2e per TONKM by 30% compared to 2018. Sales 2025: Over 50% of our sales should include sustainable solution by 2025. (CO2e = CO2 equivalent) 22
HOW WE WORK: ENVIRONMENT
Internal engagements Our employees are educated in systems, quality as well as our environmental work and solutions to be even better. We also have an internal network “Green ambassadors” to share ideas and work together for a better climate both inside and outside our organization (read more on page 20). The offices are measured on their environmental performance in a quarterly report in green offices in order for us to constantly improve (read more on page 24). External engagements To be able to work with the markets best and most trustworthy suppliers we perform biannual supplier evaluations. The suppliers must be approved to be a supplier so we know that we deliver services with the high quality that is expected. We work closely together with our suppliers to evolve the services of the future. We also strive to have projects together with suppliers and customers and do not hesitate to try new technology when available and applicable. We engage in forums joined by academy, business and government to seek to create a more sustainable logistics sector. We are proud members of Q3, CLOSER and TripleF, contributing to more sustainable transport and logistics.
Products & services Our ambition is to provide the best service for each customer being able to support and guide them through different options to optimize their flow. Both from a monetary perspective as well as environmental. We find that they often work hand in hand. Green is lean, but you have to look at the whole supply chain in order to make the choices best suitable for your business. We have products and services developed to be more sustainable than traditional alternatives (see page 27) and these solutions constantly become more and better. When you are a customer at Greencarrier you are able to monitor your goods as well as the emissions in our supply chain dashboard making it easy to see the consequence of choice and the performance. You can easily keep an eye of your cargo and documents. Our emissions is calculated through Eco-transit, which is compliance with EN16258 and also accredited by Glec. More information can be found at ecotransit.org.
We have environmental actions in three focus areas: Internal engagements, External engagements and Products & Services. 23
Green Solutions - making it easy to make more sustainable choices
We strive to make sustainable choices easilly available to our customers. In 2020 we launched our greener choices into our Green Solutions, and we continue to develop and improve the concept. Our Green Solutions are options where you can reduce a lot of CO2-emissoins compared to the more traditional choices. Short Sea Shortsea within Europe is a key success factor when it comes to reaching the very high goals set up in the EU and member countries. The water ways are underutilized, in many cases the smaller vessels that are used for these routes still has the ability to handle the same amount of cargo as 500 trucks. This reduces C02-emissions and makes roads safer and less congested. Consolidation Consolidation of goods ensures lower emissions because of fuller containers. Share the space and buy and ship what you need. This is both economic and reduces the empty mileage. Rail You can ship your goods from China to Europe by train in a much more sustainable way than air transport. Our rail service from Asia to Europe is a reliable service which we have worked with for many years. We also work with rail solutions within Europe. Intermodal Sometimes a combination of transport modes is the best 24
option, and actually very efficient. You can use the rail system and combine with waterways in an efficient and low emitting alternative to road freight. BIofuels Biofuels could be used in airplanes, sea vessels and for trucks. There are several different fuels available, and to reach the global goals we will need the combination. We will also look to other options, such as High Capacity Transports (HCT), to maximize the space, and electrification. Direct Flight Air transport is the most emitting mode of transport, but sometimes really necessary! Direct flights is a way better option than landing and taking off several times (as this costs a lot of energy/fuel consumption). A lot is happening, and we will see the air industry transform rapidly. We work with real reductions - but offer offsetting Offsetting is not our main option to reach climate neutrality, on the contrary we see it an alternative when there is nothing more to be done. Solvatten is our long term partner in this work. Read more about this on page 25.
HOW WE WORK: ENVIRONMENT
Making a difference for real - reducing actual emissions
While some companies may see offsetting as a quick way to be able to claim to be climate neutral, we have opted to go another way. Our main route is always to reduce actual emissions from our operations, and help our customers reduce the actual footprint from their logistics.
With this said, it’s obvious that offsetting is not our first priority when it comes to helping the climate. On the contrary we recommend it only when there is nothing more that can be done in terms of actually transforming your logistics into more sustainable options. This way we can drive change and make a real difference in the way the logistics industry work. When a customer wants to offset the emissions we always use our long term partner Solvatten.
Partnership for a better future As their partner we have provided Solvatten with logistical support and in 2021 we have shipped several containers to Africa. During 2022 we will continue to support them with funding in certain projects and whenever a customer wants to offset their emissions.
Clean and heated water saves lifes and trees Solvatten is a Swedish invention and a social enterprise making portable solar powered jerry cans for heating and treating water. Their vision is a world where everyone can live a healthy and worthy life It’s a combination of portable water treatment and water heater system and it uses UV, built-in turbulence, and filtration to clean water on a household level. All that is needed is sunlight. This way it gives people health and better lives through clean and heated water, and reduces deforestation as water is treated without the need for cooking over fire. 25

IN FOCUS: ENVIRONMENT
Short sea shipping – how beneficial is it? Short sea shipping is said to provide great economic and environmental benefits. And the fact is more companies are looking into the possibilities of short sea shipping, especially in Europe. But how much can you actually benefit from shipping your goods by short sea? What is short sea shipping? Short sea shipping is the transport of goods by sea along a coast without crossing an ocean. Or, as the name suggests – shipping goods by sea over shorter distances. The concept of short sea shipping has been around for centuries. Before large container ships dominated the oceans, vessels sailed the short distances between European seaports connecting trade and contributing to the fast economic development of the continent. Today, short sea shipping accounts for roughly 40 percent of all goods moved across the globe. It plays a significant role in serving intra-European trade as well as trade with country neighbours and the states on the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea. How much can you benefit from short sea shipping? Let us look at this from a wider perspective and place short sea shipping in a broader context. Over the past few years, the interest in short sea shipping has increased, especially in Europe. Shipping companies realise the benefits of short sea shipping, but the EU has a strategic interest in ensuring the continuous development of short sea shipping.
delays, road accidents, degraded infrastructure, and noise pollution. So, in terms of the environment and the issues of European road transport, the benefits of short sea shipping are massive. 5 things to expect when choosing short sea shipping Are you also interested in the possibilities of short sea shipping and its benefits? If you are considering switching from road transport to short sea, here are a few things to expect. 1. Receive your goods in a reliable, consistent, and timely manner One of the major benefits of short sea shipping is getting your goods in a reliable, consistent, and timely manner. Unlike road transport, which is generally more prone to delays and irregular logistics flow due to congestion, short sea shipping allows for scheduled departures and arrivals. 2. Rely on efficient distribution of goods from your port terminal With timely arrivals, your goods can be efficiently distributed from your port terminal. You don’t have to worry about taking care of large goods volumes within short time frames or keeping stock in your warehouse, and dealing with related inventory issues.
”In terms of the environment
and the issues of European road transport, the benefits of short sea shipping are massive.”
Short sea shipping is a drive engine in sustainable shipping One of the European Commission’s main priorities is integrating short sea shipping in full logistics chains. Short sea promotion centres have been established in nearly all coastal EU member states. Short sea shipping also plays an important role in reaching the EU transport goal of reducing 60% of greenhouse gas emissions generated by transport by 2050 and shifting 30% of road freight over 300 km to other transport modes by 2030. Short sea shipping can help to solve road transport issues By establishing “sea motorways” and improving links between seaports and inland networks, it is possible to take substantial goods volumes off the European roads. This would largely contribute to solving the prevailing issues of European road transport linked to the environment, but also truck driver shortage, freight rates, road congestion, traffic
3. Be part of the sustainable shipping movement Choosing short sea shipping also means choosing the environment. Due to fuel efficiency and better emissions standards, short sea shipping is a much more environmentally friendly alternative. By choosing short sea over road transport, you contribute to reduced CO2 emissions. 4. Benefit from reduced shipping costs With short sea shipping, you can expect lower shipping costs. Sea freight rates are considerably lower than road freight rates, especially when shipping larger freight volumes and heavier cargo. Vessels also have more capacity; one ship alone equals about 500 truckloads. 5. Benefit from improved road safety And then there is the aspect of road-related issues. Moving goods from road to short sea has a positive impact on road congestion, road safety, and noise levels. Fewer heavy vehicles on the roads contribute to smoother traffic flows, safer driving, and trucks staying on schedule.

Highlights 2021
Finalists in InfraAwards
In 2021 we were finalists in the innovation challenge InfraAwards. The challenge to solve was: What does the transport infrastructure sector need to solve in order to quickly become sustainable, smart and resource efficient? Our competition entry was: “We make it easy to make the right choice – Greencarrier’s digital decision support for conscious and sustainable logistics choices” and served to solve the challenge by using infra structure in a more efficient way. We were chosen as one of five finalists, and our entry ended up on a shared second place. InfraSweden2030 is part of Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency and Forma’s joint investment in strategic innovation programs.
Greener Offices
Moss, Hong Kong, Gothenburg and Warszaw were awarded in 2021.
All our offices work according to our Green Office concept, making improvements and reporting on their environmental improvements. Each quarter we announce a Green Office of the quarter. This is based on a general high score and a special improvement or achievement during the period. This way we awarded Moss, Hong Kong, Gothenburg and Warszaw as our Green Offices of the quarter 2021.
Green Office some local actions
”We have installed a few more electric vehicle charging stations and can therefore offer our employees the possibility to charge their own electric vehicles at work.” Gothenburg ”We changed 3 Reach Stackers at their container terminal that significantly reduces the amount of pollution as they are more clean-burning and fuel-efficient than older machines. The machines are Euro5 (which equals Euro6 for trucks). In addition they also have new electric forklifts at their terminal.” Moss ”We decided to renovate our premises into a smaller space.” Helsinki
New Portugal Nordics Short Sea LCL Service In 2021 we strenthened our position within sustainable transport solutions by opening a new Short Sea LCL service. The service operates from Porto in Portugal to the Nordic region. Cargo for the Nordic market will be consolidated from all over Spain and Portugal, to be shipped to Gothenburg for further distribution in the Nordics. This service will be launched in Q4 2021.
Sustainability Training
In 2020 we launched our new sustainability training, a man-
datory course for all employees which is available within our online Academy. The training consists of three separate modules: about sustainability in general, about our view and ambitions, and about what you can do to contribute. Each module is followed by a test. In 2021 64% of our employees employees attended the training and we intend to make this number 100% during 2022.. 28
– We are launching this sustainable service as a complement to long distance road haulage across Europe. It will reduce direct emissions but also mitigate congested roads and shortage of drivers. It is our ambition to make it simple for our clients to switch to sustainable alternatives without having to recreate their entire supply chain, Ari Malvela, Head of Road Freight for Greencarrier Freight Services.
Staying close while working remote
As part of our Green Office ambitions we have always had good tools for remote working and digital meetings, to reduce unnecessary business travel. Already when the pandemic started we had a well-developed remote access service that allowed anyone to work from home. We use Microsoft Teams and tie this together with all our collaboration services. Thanks to this setup we have managed to ensure the full operation of our business in times of social distancing and remote work.
Certified
We are certified according to ISO 9001 & 14 001 in all countries where we operate. Our Business Manual describes our work within quality and environment from ISO-perspective.
Global
evaluation of suppliers
Yes!
93% of our employees think that our work with sustainability is important, according to our annual sustainability survey.
In 2021 we launched the concept Green Solutions, that packages the best available logistics options from a sustainability perspective.
We evaluate our suppliers and improve the process each year. The purpose of the supplier evaluation is to ensure the quality and environmental work of our suppliers and we label them according to their performance. We aim to work with GREEN labelled suppliers.
Emission Calculation according to European standard Greencarrier Freight Services calculate greenhouse gas emissions in CO2e (Carbon Dioxide Equivalents). We use Eco Transit, whose emission calculation is compliant to the EN16258. This is a common methodology for greenhouse gas emissions related to transport services. During 2019 Eco Transit was also the first emission calculation tool to become compliant to the GLEC (Global Logistics Emissions Council) framework. 29
People make the difference
A partners’ point of view:
We are proud to partner up with Greencarrier and their journey towards creating a more sustainable tomorrow, where creating conditions for their employees to be sustainable is one area of focus. During 2020 Greencarrier had a very positive result from their Health Challenge with an impressive increase in ”how are you” and activity level but also decreased stress. The increased activity level indicates that we target not only the already active individuals. In Greencarrier Challenge 2020 they kept the team-spirit up within sharing photos and inspire each other. The great results shows that increased daily exercise and fun together have had a great impact on their total wellbeing Sara Lindstrand Health Strategist, Challengize

Meet two of our amazing people Name: Katy Bonham Location: Nottinghamshire, England Title: Branch Manager, Midlands UK. Working at Greencarrier since: March 2018 Describe yourself in three words: Outgoing, Approachable and Fun How would you describe your role? We opened our office in July 2021 as part of the UK expansion. I now have a team of six, so my day to day is managing the operation. This can be everything from looking at how to improve processes, training and recruiting team members and liaising with new and existing customers to keep on top of their requirements and suggest ways we can support them as their logistical needs may develop or change. What does customer focus mean to you and how do you apply it in your work? For me it is getting to know our customers so well that we know what they need to make their business run how they want it to. Their supply chain and logistics partner should fit seamlessly into being an extension of their business and I think we can only do that through getting to know how their business works now and how they envisage hey want develop it to work in the future. What is good logistics in your opinion? In my opinion good logistics is customer focused as above, but with the most sustainable solutions we can find to fit their needs. Good logistics also need to be agile and ready to change as required to fit with our customer and the market conditions. Excellent team work, communication and knowledge is required! Sustainable logistics solutions are close to our heart. Why should green thinking be important when it comes to logistics solutions? Logistics is a massive part of our modern world now, with manufacturing and industry often no longer being “local” which means often goods can attract a huge carbon foot print before arriving at their final required destination. Logistics is a large part of that, so we need to make sure we are looking at the best solutions to reduce the impact of the supply chain on this carbon footprint to work towards a healthier planet.
Name: Bastian Schem Alegria Location: Oslo, Norway Title: Ocean Freight Coordinator TCT & LCL Product manager, Greencarrier Freight Services Norway Working at Greencarrier since: 2019 Describe yourself in three words: Humble, determined and sporty How would you describe your role? In addition, I recently was assigned to further develop the LCL-product and such related tasks. What is good logistics in your opinion? Delivering high quality service through sustainable solutions. What does customer focus mean to you and how do you apply it in your work? Exceeding customer expectations and having the customer to be left with an “out of the ordinary” service experience. Sustainable logistics solutions are close to the heart of Greencarrier. Why should green thinking be important when it comes to logistics solutions? We should all do our best to decrease our carbon footprint and the impact we have on the environment. Thinking green will help to improve and develope environmental focus. Do you have any tips to customers planning their transportation? Planning in advance is the main key. Communicate all needed details regards to your freight needs and involve your forwarder at early stage for advice and guidance.

It is the in-house counterpart to the NPS method, used for measuring customer loyalty. It is built on the question ”Would you recommend our company to a colleague or a friend?”. We have improved this score steadily since we started measuring, and in 2021 we reached the score 29!
Keep moving - stay happy Our People: 850 employees 11 countries 36
During 2021 we had a Greencarrier health challenge for all employees, where we inspired each other to healthy habits and to exercise, while having fun together. This challenge was a great success with a huge engagement and our employees competed in teams. In times of pandemic and a lot of remote working we saw that it was extra important to stay active and healthy, plus doing something fun together. The ambition was to increase our wellbeing and create a team feeling, since many of us can’t meet in real life.
We support and help each other in all times and we were happy to see that 95% of the respondents in our Covid-19 employee survey said:
”Yes, I feel that I can talk to my manager when I feel worried”.
Gender mix
The pandemic and our employees’ well being To get an overall understanding of the state of how all the employees in all our Greencarrier Freight Services countries were doing in times of panedmic and social distancing, we sent out a survey about the Covid-19 situation. Questions were related to employee wellbeing, current workplace (at home or office), information flow and how we as company handled the situation. 66% of all employees responded and in general, the feedback was positive. We scored 4,4 out of 5 on the question ”Overall I’m satisfied with how the company has handled the situation”. We scored 4,8 out of 5 on the question ”I have the tools I need when working remote”.
Leadership training in a digitalized world Women 42% Men 58%

Our employees give the score 4,2 out of 5 on the question ” I’m overall happy with my work situation”
Since many years back we have a leadership training program to enable our leaders to develop and grow, and be the best leaders. With the outbreak of the pandemic 2020 we quickly decided to convert our training into a completely digital one – to be able to ensure continuity in the development of our leaders during the pandemic. But it was not only about going digital because of the pandemic, it is a new concept developed to the current conditions that our leaders are facing. So, it was not only about switching from physical to digital but to adopt to new possibilities and challenges. Leading remote requires some new ways of communicating. For some leaders this was already a standard way of leading while for others a totally new way of leading. The new online leadership training was launched in 2021 and 17 leaders completed the program.

Our view on sustainable business
A customer’s point of view:
Pierre Robert Group is distributing basic underwear, socks, hosiery and wool garments in 4000 grocery stores in Norway and Nordic from our online shop. Since the launch of Pierre Robert textiles in 2006 we have had a continuous focus on sustainability and responsible sourcing in our supply chain and operations. Sustainability is included in our business strategy and we are committed to contribute to a more sustainable textile industry through our operations. 80% of a garment’s environmental footprint comes from/is within our part of the value chain and Pierre Robert Group strive to choose the options to reduce the garments environmental footprint. By prioritising less impact materials and design, production facility, processes, packaging and transport from our factories we strive to reduce the negative impact. That is why we chose Greenccarrier Freight Services to convert our cargo transport from truck to rail/train from our largest supplier, Calzificio Fap, in Italy. This contributes to a reduction of Co2 from our transport and we are very happy with the services and deliveries we have e experienced with Greenccarrier Freight Services . Good logistics is when you understand your customer and their business in the sense that you don’t think of their products as just boxes being moved from one place to another. But instead, you put yourself in your customer’s shoes to truly understand their needs and solve their problem. This is a relevant aspect of the freight forwarder’s role in an increasingly digitalised world. Carl Larsson Director Ocean Consolidation Services Scandinavian and Baltic Region
HOW WE WORK: BUSINESS
Acting according to the law is obvious to most companies, but acting ethically is not always as obvious. While the law is the key starting point for any business, acting in an ethical way means distinguishing between right and wrong, and then making the right choices. Our ethics underpin the decisions anyone in our company makes. We believe that working as an ethical business attracts and retains customers, investors and employees.
Long term partnerships Working in the Greencarrier Group means complying with laws, ordinances, regulations and other requirements – as a minimum. But we actually want to do more than what the legislation requires from us. We strive to be a fair and honest business partner. To our help we have our policies and code of conduct. But as a value driven company it also means that we should be able to distinguish right from wrong and choosing the right conduct based on our values. That is why we work with our culture and values, and often work with partners that share a similar mindset. As mentioned, our vision is top of mind for sustainable logistics solutions. Sustainable of course means having the environment in mind when we suggest a customer transport solution. But sustainable also means that we want to build relationships for a sustainable long term partnership with customers as well as suppliers. This means that our top priority is to care for our customers, listen to their needs and solve their supply chain challenges. It is extremely important that our customers experience a professional handling when something happens that is not according to plan, therefore we have developed support systems to handle deviations in an efficient and correct way. We also want to be a competence partner within different fields to our customers and partners, and have the ambition to inspire them to take an even larger responsibility for the environment. Together with our customers and suppliers, we work to find
new activities that support innovative and sustainable transport solutions. Denied Party Screaning In the world of global trade there are ongoing changes through sanction lists and regulations in the EU and US as well as within various national and international organizations. These are constantly monitoring and updating several blacklists of companies, countries and even individuals that are potentially (or admittedly) linked to corruptive practices, terrorist activities and threats to national security. This leads to the necessity for all the companies doing international business (like ours) to proceed with a Denied Party Screening (DPS), for checking and validating of those organizations, entities, and persons - we and our customers - do business with. It is our responsibility to ensure that the shipments we are handling are not sanctioned goods or involving any illegal parties as per above. The DPS process is a joint responsibility for everyone involved in our daily business and is a ca vital part of our “License to operate.” During 2021 we launched a new E-Learning mandatory for all our employees about DPS and we established a DPS Complicance Team.

Erik Sjöström Supply Chain Innovation Manager Greencarrier Freight Services, International

IN FOCUS: BUSINESS
Freight Forwarding – an industry in rapid transformation COVID-19 has put a spotlight on the importance of good logistics and speeded up the transformation of the industry. How has the pandemic driven the change within logistics? What will we see more of forward? In 2021 Greencarrier Freight Services’ Innovation Manager, Erik Sjöström, participated in Sweden China Trade Council and talked about the rising shipping costs, logistics trends, changes during COVID-19 and how to break internal organizational silos. We had a short chat with Erik about the takeaways from the webinar. Firstly Erik, what is your role as Innovation Manager? – My role is about transforming good ideas into concepts and logistics solutions that bring value to our customers, which in logistics is centered around sustainability, responsiveness, reliability, cost, speed etc.
a function, having personal contacts as a guiding star. I think freight forwarders will develop more towards being a knowledge partner in the future, especially when managing complex, global supply chains in turbulent times. At the same time, I believe we will see a lot more digitalization for standardized, regular flows that are more reliable. What tips do you want to give companies out there? – You need to optimize based on the value flow and think more holistically, meaning different departments within your company need to know what other departments do. Often, those who work with sales for example, have no idea what is happening at the logistics department in-house, or if it is turbulent on the production side in China. This has become even clearer during the pandemic. A key to optimizing a chain is transparency, and that everyone in it knows what’s going on.
”You need to think more holistically, meaning different departments within your company need to know what other departments do.
What will we see more of after COVID-19? – We are heading towards a rapid digitalization of the freight forwarding industry. In general, megatrends such as digitalization, sustainability and automation will be accelerated and consolidated, while the pandemic itself will blow over. Many other industries have been digitized and changed rapidly in recent years, but in forwarding there is still a lot of manual work. I think we will see a great transformation. How has the pandemic driven the change within logistics? – The industry has previously focused on mass production, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. When COVID-19 arrived, we realized that we might need to look at what we mean by a good logistics chain. It’s not just about cost efficiency, but also about building agility and robustness. During the pandemic, customers have also demanded more knowledge and help to analyze what the changes mean for them. How have you experienced this? – Customers have had the need to talk to someone to understand what this disruption means to them in their own industry, and here we have really been able to fulfill
Do you have any hands-on tips on how people internally should gain a more holistic view? – Sit down in the same room and measure the flow across functions, then things will start to happen for sure. This applies not only to departments within the company but also to the dialogue with your partners. If you build long-term trust between the players, it is much easier to help solve the problems that arise. This applies not least to us freight forwarders. This is nothing new, but still very current and important. You often talk about preparation when you talk about logistics Erik, but what does this mean? – In the restaurant industry, it is called “mise en place” – to prepare everything you can prepare. Then you must adapt depending on the situation, but if we take in what we know and prepare, we can faster adjust to what is needed by the situation. We have an incredible amount of data today, but at the same time we are incredibly bad at using it and visualizing it so that everyone understands. Companies who are best at quick changes, including green solutions, will be the winners in the long run. COVID-19 is absolutely affecting us, but the long-term trends such as AI, electrification and urbanization are here to stay and must be included in companies long term strategy. Take a step back and look at the whole picture, rather than get lost in the details. 41
Our contribution to the society
42
HOW WE WORK: SOCIETY
We want to be a responsible corporate citizen, and we believe that by caring for the world around us and the people in it, we become a better business partner and employer.
How we engage in the society Over the years employees in Greencarrier Freight Services have engaged in a number of CSR projects and we have personally engaged in may of the initatives. We want every employee to be abe to engage in our CSR projects, that serve give back to the society or planet and contribute to our priorotized Sustainable Development Goals from the UN (see page (10-11). In 2021 for instance, we engaged in sorting food to people in need in Food Banks around Norway and we raised money to breast cancer research and awareness in our annual Pink Day. Voluntering in Food Bank Food Banks Norway is a network of Food Banks that redistributes surplus food from food industry to non-profit organizations that help disadvantaged people.
Employees from our offices in Norway have helped the Food Bank by packing and loading boxes for distribution to kids in need. Through that job, they help both the food industry to reduce food waste, and the non-profit organizations to help people in need. A true win win-project. Other actions towards the society In addition to all our CSR-projects, part of our role as a corporate citizen is included in our Human Resources strategy to be involved with schools and welcome trainees each year. We also support a number of children sport teams and other initiatives, as part of our local sponsorship activities. 43
