« Je suis fier d’avoir été nommé Directeur Artistique de KENZO. Je suis né l’année où Takada Kenzo san a ouvert sa première boutique à Paris. Nous sommes tous les deux diplômés de la même école de mode à Tokyo. En 1993, année où KENZO a rejoint le groupe LVMH, j’ai débuté ma carrière dans la mode. L’approche créative originale de Kenzo san se distinguait à travers sa compréhension de nombreuses cultures. C’est aussi l’essence de ma propre philosophie créative. Faire vivre l’esprit du savoir-faire de Takada Kenzo san pour créer un nouveau KENZO est le plus grand défi de mes 30 ans de carrière, défi que je compte relever avec les équipes KENZO. », déclare Nigo.

“I am proud to have been appointed Artistic Director of KENZO. I was born the year Takada Kenzo-san opened his first store in Paris. We graduated from the same fashion school in Tokyo. In 1993, the year KENZO joined the LVMH group, I started my career in fashion. Kenzo-san’s original creative approach stood out thanks to his understanding of many cultures. It is also the essence of my own creative philosophy. Bringing to life the spirit of Takada Kenzo-san’s savoir-faire to create a new KENZO is the greatest challenge of my 30-year career, a challenge I will undertake with the KENZO teams,” says Nigo.

Nigo a lancé sa première marque de vêtements à Tokyo en 1993 et a continué à changer le paysage mondial de la street culture. Il a travaillé simultanément dans les mondes de la mode et de la musique, toujours avec une sensibilité aigüe aux détails. Grâce à de fréquentes collaborations avec les entreprises et les créateurs les plus connus au monde, il a continuellement innové et crée de nouvelles représentations de la mode. En 2020, il réalise une magnifique capsule avec Virgil Abloh pour Louis Vuitton.

Nigo launched his first clothing brand in Tokyo in 1993 and went on to change the global street-culture landscape. He worked simultaneously in the worlds of fashion and music, always with an acute sensitivity to detail. Through frequent collaborations with the world’s best-known companies and designers, he has continually innovated and created new representations of fashion. In 2020, he produced a magnificent capsule with Virgil Abloh for Louis Vuitton.

Fondée à Paris en 1970 par Kenzo Takada, qui ouvre sa première boutique Galerie Vivienne, la Maison ne cesse de cultiver et réinterpréter avec modernité les codes qui font sa singularité : la mixité des imprimés, l’accord de couleurs raffinées, une créativité exubérante et sophistiquée empreinte d’optimisme et d’impertinence.

For half a century, KENZO has been infusing positive energy and contagious freedom by claiming a polychrome, daring and borderless fashion that celebrates nature and cultural diversity. Founded in Paris in 1970 by Kenzo Takada, the House continues to cultivate and reinterpret with modernity the codes that make its uniqueness : the mix of prints, the harmony of refined colours, an exuberant and sophisticated creativity imbued with optimism and impertinence.

Korigami

Tout comme au Prêt-à-Porter Kenzo, Korigami met à l’honneur le retour du denim et des bleus indigo.

Des galons imprimés de micro-motifs, issus de papiers japonais pour les origamis, sont travaillés dans ce camaïeu de couleurs pour un univers à la fois masculin et féminin.

Un petit damier, ton sur ton sur l’envers vient compléter cette subtile histoire.

Just like Kenzo Prêt-à-Porter, Korigami highlights the return of denim and indigo blues.

Trims printed with micro-patterns, from Japanese origami paper, are formed in this colour gradation for a universe that is both masculine and feminine.

Small tone-on-tone checks on the reverse side complete this subtle story.

Cette belle histoire florale est issue d’une ancienne archive japonaise.

La pivoine est une fleur importante de l’univers Kenzo. Ici, elle est travaillée dans une coloration raffinée avec ses tons givrés ponctués de touches vert canard.

Un motif traditionnel japonais graphique, vient s’ajouter en contre-fond de cet imprimé, tel une dentelle.

Il s’agit d’une nouvelle interprétation féminine de Kenzo pour l’univers maison.

This beautiful floral tale descends from an old Japanese archive.

The peony is an important flower in the Kenzo universe. Here, it is designed in a refined colouring, with frosted tones punctuated by touches of teal green.

A traditional Japanese graphic pattern is added against the background of this print, like lace.

This is a new feminine interpretation of Kenzo for the home universe.

Création de Nigo pour son premier défilé Kenzo automne / hiver 2022, ce motif floral graphique joue sur le rythme et les jeux de ton sur ton. Nouvelle ligne d’unis : jeux de lumière pour le jacquard satin, jeux de relief pour le ciselé de l’éponge. En lit, l’envers est travaillé avec une rayure régulière, en référence à celle du workwear américain, travaillée en prêt-à-porter. L’ombre de cette fleur japonaise stylisée, nommée Boke Flower, n’est pas sans évoquer les imprimés des années 70, qu’affectionne tant le directeur artistique de la maison Kenzo.

Created by Nigo for his first Kenzo Autumn/Winter 2022 show, this graphic floral pattern plays on rhythm and tone-on-tone effects. A new line of solids: interplays of light for the Jacquard sateen and of relief for the towel fringe. For the bed, the reverse is formed with a regular stripe, suggesting American workwear, rendered in Prêt-à-Porter. The shadow of this stylised Japanese bloom, named Boke Flower, is reminiscent of 1970s prints, which the artistic director of the House of Kenzo is so fond of.
