EDITO Meet the Team... Sebastian Walsh Fresh Creative Creator & Curator
Elodie Chatelain Fresh Creative Production Manager
How Fresh are we? Fresh Creative is a brand new festival envisioned by Sebastian Walsh that celebrates interdisciplinary arts. It seeks to provide an alternative route to creative recognition for emerging talent. We want to bridge the gap between established and aspiring artists whilst engaging with the community. This Magazine has been designed to capture the past two events which took place on June 27th and July 4th. It is a way of transferring the social art of the festival into a physical piece that can be kept and shared with other, exhibiting the work of the great artists who contributed to these events.
Socially engaged Music & Arts!
“Fresh Creative is an arts and music oriented festival full of off-kilter acts, unusual names and creative arts. Prepare for a truly eclectic selection of antics.” – www.designmynight.com

“ y work if focused upon the idea of children's fairy tales, with the origins of them being quite dark, and grim ways to teach children morals, and mannerisms. The more I read, the more fascinating it became, and I turned to writing my own, inspired by current events, and media articles to which we have become desensitised. People acting in ways which should shock us, merely bores the masses, or causes a brief stir in our daily lives. With this in mind, I wanted to bring the creatures to life, and also the society which they themselves live, the imaginary Village of Eden.
I use a combination of mask making, performance art, special effects, prosthetic make-up and body painting to bring these creatures to life, and incorporate this into a mixture of film, and live performance work to tell their stories, their own grim fairy tales, the tales which we as a population ignore. I use a lot of animal and fantasy elements, and often strive to make the goings on as comical as possible, which I feel gains a better response to the work, as in my opinion, the world shouldn't always be quite so gloomy! In the future, I hope to develop my work into more interactive performance installations, including more prosthetic applications, bringing bigger and better creatures to life!

“ y aim on the day was to engage with as many people, get them involved in the interactive painting session and enjoy the backdrop of my recent collection of canvases under the theme of 'pencils and Pencilman - a cartoon character I developed. The painting session was open to everyone to try with all materials provided free of charge. Members of the public were invited to paint on top of photocopies of unfinished drawings and sketches of mine with the

“ y work is driven by an obsession to doodle, paint, draw and create artwork, which usually manifests in bold graphic imagery. Sometimes I create work that has no meaning except for its aesthetic quality and for the viewer to interpret whatever they feel from it. Sometimes I will have an idea or emotion or a statement that I am making or representing in my art. A lot of my work is inspired by abstract concepts, society, life, consciousness and eastern philosophy/ spirituality or really whatever experiences and influences I encounter. My vision is to simply enjoy everything and to continue to create and doodle on whatever I can and have and create positive experiences. “ https://www.behance.net/mul

Taking inspiration of the historical values of the lifestyle he is observing in Manchester and subculture. Using music from The Fall and sounds of interview of John Cooper Clarke, 1982, After Dark.
The aim for me as a choreographer is looking for new ways and places for dance theatre to be performed, (gigs, music videos, nights, exhibitions, anything!). Say it fast, say it whispery and menacing Growl it in a range of preposterous accents. Say it as slow as you can, but clear the room first. No, clear the room. Completely. Your weary ear needs a rest. Everybody clangs so hard. Go make potions in the back yard. Use flowers and insects. Put some silence in your tunes. Slow them down. Let them breathe. They’ll thank you, and then fly away from you, smiling. New EP "Carry me Home" is also available to download via www.ookandtheelephant.bandcamp.com
between Cambridge and London, the enigmatic electroindie quintet Lunacre blend a number of influences and call to mind the sounds of Vondelpark, Radiohead and at times the soft ambience of Mount Kimbie. Their sound is a unique sonic amalgamation which has seen their fan base grow with every release, evidenced by their recent series of successful UK live dates. The EP 'Troupe‘ includes their previous single, 'Engine', which was well received following a premier at 'Clash'. “A new but ambitious project, the group fuse a lust for breaking electronics to a need to hone in on classic songcraft. Somewhere between those two poles, Lunacre emerge. Compared to Vondelpark and Mount Kimbie, there's also a sense of the Bristol sound in here; the intensity of those early Portishead records, for example.” They are currently working on new recordings and plan to unveil more in early 2016. www.lunacre.com

live the Good Life and an irksome feeling of existential dread, Oh man, the mountain are a large alt. folk band from Manchester. At their fullest, a group of 8 who try to tread the lines between harmony, discord, melancholy and joy - to create a big, if slightly broken sound. Drawing influence from roots folk, southern gothic Americana, delta blues and the disassociation from it all that living in a British city tends to bring - the music is not flashy, but an honest attempt to express the confusion of living and loving in a broken world.
for leather sofas. Taupe are a Newcastle upon Tyne based trio specializing in razorsharp polyrhythmic play, exploratory improvisation and raw, high energy live performance. The group’s sound is built of influences drawing from free jazz and math metal to hip-hop grooves and post-bop, with a healthy dollop of skronk, all navigated down a path that seeks to blur the line between carefully constructed rhythmic compositions and explosive group improvisation. www.taupetaupetaupe.com
The first EP ‘Songs of Silt’ was released in April 2014 is a hearty celebration of the natural world and the inevitability of loss and death. DJ AVSTIN
DJ Hobbit
DJ AVSTIN has been producing music and DJing from the ripe age of 13, ever since he heard the Acid House classic, Voodoo Ray. This sparked a passion for house music and every different subgenre of this party starting music. However, by the age of 15 he discovered the Manchester free party scene and Drum & Bass. From here, AVSTIN explored Dubstep, Dub Reggae, Neurofunk, 140's, and Glitch Hop.
Since discovering the free party scene at 15 years-old, Hobbit has watched, learnt and been inspired by the free party scene, its diversity and togetherness. He tries to bring these vibes this to every party he enters. From Hip-Hop to Jungle and D’n’B to House….he has something for everyone.
It wasn't until 2015 that AVSTIN finally found his signature musical style, and began to make professional sounding music all from home. With the discovery of Bassline and Grime music; He realised he could combine these popular dance music genres into a clean sounding mix. Today, it is clear that he strives to create a unique genre-defying sound that can't easily be recognised as any particular type of music. This has come from his extensive interest in a vast range of genres and musical instruments. https://m.soundcloud.com/jack-austin-graham

DJ Aslan
“ As a DJ of three and a half years, I enjoy playing primarily 4/4 music; anything with a groove suits me but in the main I like to play house, disco and funk records.
“ My work is a heavy reggae sound with mixture of unheard dubs and big tunes I have played along side the mighty Dub Smugglers as well as the heavy weights Red Eye channel one and then generally more recently I’ve just got back from dubs ‘til dawn where I played for the Ring The Alarm crew.
I have experience playing clubs such as South and Factory, showcasing the heavier side of my sound and more recently you can find me in bars around Manchester playing a wide variety of stuff that wouldn’t necessarily work in the club. At the end of the day, if it’s got something that makes you wanna move, I’ll be playing it! ”
You can currently catch me working with upcoming MC Killamanjaro from Manchester.” www.facebook.com/AslanManchester
