FEATURE PROPERTY LIDO is architecturally inspired to fit the community and the people in it. Standing proud on the corner of 10th Street and 2nd Avenue NW, it will transform the streetscape of 10th street Kensington into a vibrant and sophisticated space that will benefit residents, businesses, and visitors alike. During the early 20th century Tenth Street was a thriving commercial street. Over the past 20 years, The Dobbin Group has been restoring Kensington to its former glory. The LIDO site was bought by the Calgary Parking Authority a number of years ago to increase the parking capacity in the Kensington area; however a mixed-used project was suggested in order to add greater vibrancy. The collaboration between The Dobbin Group and Battistella Developments is destined to become a landmark on Tenth Street. Throughout the years the site has housed many businesses, including Ant Hill Fabrics, and since 1962, the Lido café. The Lido café, a Chinese and breakfast diner, is wellknown among the locals and has a place in people’s hearts. The business owners are now retiring, but the LIDO name and the iconic Lido sign will live on. ARCHITECTURE / DESIGN LIDO is a continuation of Battistella’s contribution to the revitalization and beautification of Kensington and its public spaces. LIDO will be a contemporary design with a sophisticated mix of glass and concrete, coupled with artistic colour blocks, consistent with Battistella’s imaginative designs. Battistella has partnered with IBI design group, a prominent building envelope engineer, and ce de ce inc. interiors to design LIDO. The quality of the materials and craftsmanship will be raised to a new level to exceed our clientele’s discerning tastes and to offer a product not currently available in the Kensington area. LIDO is an eight-storey mixed-use condominium, comprising of sixty residential condos, seven boutique main-floor stores, twenty hotel suites, and even underground public parking. HOTEL The second floor is comprised of twenty executive suites with a private hotel entrance and exclusive elevator. The hotel suites will be managed by an experienced rental company. PARKING An entire floor of the underground parkade will be operated by the City of Calgary Parking Authority. Public access to the public parkade will be separate from the residential parking access. STOREFRONT The main floor of LIDO will consist of seven boutique-style shops and cafes, contributing to the vibrancy and eclectic nature of Kensington. ROOFTOP GARDEN The private south-facing roof top garden oasis will be accessible to all residents to enjoy. Outfitted with an outdoor fireplace, professional landscaping, and sitting areas, the rooftop patio will be a great place to take in the breathtaking river views and relax after a long day. 11
