ou have no idea how pleased I am to have Pamela Anderson on the cover of FVM this month. And it’s not just because she has appeared on multiple magazine covers, including Playboy, Vanity Fair, Healthy Living, Rolling Stone, FHM, Cosmopolitan, GQ, Maclean’s, Zoomer (and now Fresh!). And it’s not because she is probably one of the most famous sex symbols of our time and has been compared to “it” girls like Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot and Raquel Welch. Finally, it’s not because she is one of the most wellknown Canadians or has lived a life many girls have only dreamed of: dating (and marrying) rock stars, travelling the planet, and being admired all over the world. The reason why I’m so pleased to have Pamela Anderson on our cover is because I am impressed by and admire her ability to survive all the ups and downs that life has thrown at her (or, sometimes, that she has thrown herself at…). She has survived the tabloids, the broken marriages, and multiple health issues (including the Hepatitis C she just announced she was cured of). There are countless reasons I admire Pamela, but the top two are that she is an animal rights activist and a survivor. I love that Pamela is part of PETA and speaks up for animals’ rights. She lives her life how she chooses regardless of what others think, and she has managed to pull through all the adversities she has faced in her 48 years of life. I have the utmost respect for people who, although they could have given up when times got tough, chose not to. How many times in your life have you been having a rough go and just wanted to quit? Q:

I’m suffering from unbearable hot flashes, which are affecting my sleep and mood. Is there anything I can do to manage these symptoms, naturally?

A:

Yes, there are several factors which may need to be considered. Hot flashes are the most common concern of early menopausal women in my office. Hot flashes affect 75% of menopausal North American women. Hot flashes are a sudden feeling of warmth felt in the chest, neck, and face that spreads over the entire body and can be followed by sweating and sometimes dizziness. These sensations can be a cause of great discomfort and affect mood and sleep quality in many women. Uncovering imbalances by analyzing symptoms and performing lab tests are essential to understanding hormonal issues. Many hormones in the body interact covertly and therefore testing is crucial to determine these interactions. In my practice, I recommend a variety of treatment strategies that are tailored to the specific patient’s needs. Often, I advise my patients to avoid common triggers, such as: hot drinks, spicy foods, alcohol, foods containing histamine (cheese and red wine), chocolate, caffeine, stress, red meat, peanuts, shellfish, and dairy to decrease the hot flashes. In addition to avoiding these foods, I have my patients incorporate flax seeds into their diet. Ground flax seeds contain the polyphenols, lignans,

which have been found to alter estrogen’s effects or metabolism in the body. They are also a fantastic source of fibre, which slows the absorption of foods, balances blood sugars and increases feelings of satiety. There are also herbal treatments commonly used for hot flashes. These medicinal plants have been shown to decrease sweating, sleep disturbances, tension, mood swings, and low libido in early menopausal women. Finally, depending on the extent of the symptoms or hormonal imbalances, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) can be a powerful option. BHRT is the therapeutic use of hormones that are identical to the hormones produced naturally in the body, which act to return the system to balance. WINTER HAIR CARE By CURTIS HUNTER

E

very year when the weather changes and the winter is upon us, we winterize our lives. We bundle up and winterize our homes and cars, but there is something that we often forget to do! We need to winterize our hair. I have decided to make things simple for you by putting together my professional tips and quick fixes to help your hair look it’s best all winter.

MOISTURIZE:

After a long hot summer, our hair is bound to be thirsty. Thirsty hair also creates the dreaded static effect. To avoid this, make sure to double up on the moisture by adding a deep conditioner to your routine. This is also the time to invest in a lightweight wearable oil that can add shine, and stop those flyaways in their tracks. One of my personal favourites is Bumble and Bumble’s Invisible oil.

STYLE TIME: Another simple tip is to take advantage of your hat and scarf collections.

Using a hat is a great way to protect your hair from the wind, rain, and occasional snowfall. You can also get creative with hair wraps or scarves to protect your hair from the elements. Not into hats? Then try embracing some simple styles like a chic chignon at the nape of your neck or adding a fishtail braid to keep your ends together and hidden from the elements. This will also give your hair a break from hot tools like your blow dryer and flat iron.

LEAVE IT TO THE PROS: Getting a good trim is the best

way to keep your ends in order. Simply ask your stylist to dust off at least a quarter of an inch from your ends every 6-8 weeks. This will keep your ends fresh, and stop you from picking up the scissors and taking matters into your own hands! Also ask your stylist what he or she recommends for your hair in order to keep it at it’s best. Oftentimes a glossing treatment or a demi-permanent hair colouring can do wonders for dry or brittle hair. It adds a high gloss shine with little commitment, and it is sure to keep your hair glowing throughout the coldest of winter days.

WINTER VACATION: One last tip... for those of you who are lucky enough to spend the winter on a tropical vacation, remember to shield your hair from the elements. UV protection, extra moisture, and head wraps are all useful on a sun spot winter getaway!

Hopefully these pointers will help you love your hair during the holidays. With a little TLC you should have no problem embracing the cold winter weather and showing off your gorgeous healthy hair!

Lighten Your Mood Through Food By CONNIE PRETULA

HOW TO NATURALLY ALLEVIATE DEPRESSION Depression is often described as darkness, a black hole, numbness or simply a general feeling of sadness. It often results in withdrawal from people or activities that were previously enjoyable. Unfortunately depression carries the stigma of weakness or inability to cope with life. Most people don’t talk about it until after they’ve recovered or are in treatment. In my personal experience, I was afraid to admit that I needed help. A friend who says “you must have something to be grateful for” can make things worse. Coming to terms with depression is especially difficult for people who are viewed by family and friends as strong and dependable.

RECOGNIZING TRIGGERS The key to alleviating depression is recognizing triggers and taking steps to avoid them or minimize their impact. For example, depression rates in the Northern Hemisphere increase in the fall due to inadequate sun exposure. The sun helps our bodies produce vitamin D, sometimes referred to as the happy or sunshine vitamin. I take vitamin D supplements from the

autumnal equinox until late spring. It’s best to get advice from a naturopath, nutritionist or natural pharmacist on appropriate levels because many factors must be considered. For example, if you are of Asian descent, the upper limit on daily vitamin D is 4000 IU. Staying active is another important component to reducing depression, so don’t let cooler weather keep you inside. In the Lower Mainland, we are blessed to have beautiful green forests to enjoy. A twentyminute nature walk with your dog or friends is very healing for our bodies and our minds. Sugar and alcohol can also negatively affect your mood. Both deplete vitamins and minerals necessary for brain health. The group of B vitamins are the first used by our body in times of stress, which includes consuming sugar and alcohol. Busy schedules and stress can also take a toll by causing digestive issues. This is often worsened by relying on processed or fast foods that are high in unhealthy fats, sugar, and salt. Parents will often do anything to get their children to eat, even if it means they are not eating the healthiest foods. Recent research points to a correlation between gut health and emotional and mental health. If our health begins in our gut, modern diets and

convenience foods have likely had a major effect on our overall health—including mental health. If you suspect your gut is challenged, the first culprits to eliminate are wheat, dairy, refined and processed foods, alcohol, and sugar. You can cut all of these out at once but be prepared for an adjustment period of about two weeks, which may include headaches and mood changes. For some, it’s easier to gradually eliminate these items. During the elimination period, small changes can make a big difference. Focus on eating whole foods like vegetables—especially green ones since they help our bodies detoxify and eliminate waste. Seeds and nuts are also good. For example, walnuts are high in omega 3 fatty acids, which is important because our brains are made up of approximately 60% fat. Also eat lots of lentils, beans, whole grains, organic dairy, organic meats, and sustainably-caught wild cold water fish. Staying active and eating healthy can help reduce the winter blues. Most importantly, there are lots of ways to naturally improve mental health, and you don’t need to face it on your own. If problems persist, consider a food sensitivity test administered by a naturopath or nutritionist. Speaking from experience, improving gut health leads to improved emotional health.

We are certainly familiar with her jaw-dropping beauty; her legendary physique. But the sex, drugs and rock-n-roll image of Pamela Anderson so relentlessly portrayed in the media is not the full story, and is certainly not the story of today. The famously buxom beauty is now a vegan, an entrepreneur, a passionate environmentalist and animal rights advocate, and a poet.

She may have had some truly wild times in the past, but there exists a private, softer, quieter side of Anderson; one that those close to her know and love. This is the Pamela who writes every day; has kept a daily journal for decades. This is the author of Raw.

Pamela: I’ve known Emma more than 20 years. She’s always had a camera with her. I wouldn’t see her for years, then we’d get together and shoot. She is so talented. And at our age girls need to stick together!

Anderson’s new book is an intimate glimpse into the private details of her life and the inner workings of her mind. Through scrapbook-like poetry, prose and streamof-consciousness rambles, coupled with up-close-and-personal photos by longtime friend and celebrity photographer Emma Dunlavey, Anderson opens herself up to raw exposure. This time, however, it is the personal, non-tabloid side of herself that she is choosing to portray. Proceeds from the project go to the Pamela Anderson Foundation, which Anderson created to support the many causes she cares deeply about, including animal rights, environmental responsibility and humanitarian efforts. It seems that after so many years of media madness, this small-town Vancouver Island girl is now in control of her own public image, and it is a positive one. Now 48, Anderson continues to rebrand herself as an activist, a mother, a writer, an actor—and a timeless

Fresh Vancouver spoke with Pamela Anderson and Emma Dunlavey about the inspiration behind their new book, the power of friendship, the meaning of beauty, and finding purpose in life.

THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR NEW BOOK: RAW

Emma: Pamela and I have been close friends for many years and have traveled all over the world together. All the while I had my camera in hand, so I had this amazing private collection of images. Pamela has always written prose and poetry, which until now has remained unseen. People don’t know this side of her, and they should.

BEHIND THE PEN Pamela: I write every day. Before anyone has gotten out of bed at my house, I’ve written a letter, walked the dogs. I’m an early riser. I like to see the sun come up.


I’ve not felt for one day in my entire life that I was physically beautiful.

Emma: Through everything, Pamela has remained the same humble girl with a beautiful heart, brimming with energy and love for life, with an incredible sense of humor. She is beautiful inside and out.

BEHIND THE LENS Emma: Pamela trusts me as a photographer. I would never shoot anything that would make her look anything less than gorgeous, which I might add is a very easy task when it comes to shooting Pamela! I don’t just see Pamela when I shoot her, I feel her energies and I understand what is making her tick at that particular moment.

LOOKING FABULOUS AT 48 Pamela: I’m far from perfect, that’s for sure. I’m vegan. I walk my dogs, I do Pilates sometimes, I use my treadmill. I should exercise more.

BEHIND THE BEAUTIFUL EXTERIOR Pamela: I’ve not felt for one day in my entire life that I was physically beautiful. I never understood the interest. I was a late bloomer, and a tomboy growing up. Then... it was a wild ride. My mom always said beauty comes from within. And that’s the truth.

LOOKING FORWARD

Emma: Pamela is known as one of the most iconic sex symbols of our time, but it

really is fascinating once you are able to connect and see much further into someone as beautiful, passionate, strong and truly feminine as Pamela.

Pamela: I’m a pusher. I push my friends, my family and myself out of our comfort zones. Sometimes we can get stuck in our routines and never realize our potential. HOW IT STARTED I was a filmmaker in Italy and I met a lot of artists, not only visual artists, but writers, poets, actors and just a lot of people in that industry. I saw from a really profound side what art is. I got married, I moved to Vancouver and I was still working as a filmmaker. When I started my family, I decided it wasn’t good to be working in the film industry because I had to travel a lot and I was working 20 hours a day. I found that nothing really satisfied me and the only other thing that I loved besides filmmaking was art. I kept taking courses and I eventually studied at Emily Carr. That became my life. I’ve been totally devoted to my art practice and I absolutely love it.

From Mexico City to Italy to Vancouver, Miriam Aroeste has come a long way in her artistic journey. By ROOP DOSANJH

I would say that I’m a contemporary abstract painter and within that I do abstract expressionism, which is a very spontaneous way of expression. So, rather than having it all figured out in your head, everything is really born in the moment. Brush stroke, after brush stroke, that’s mainly how I build my compositions. I’m really attracted to abstract expressionism and minimalism. All my work is based on those principles and I may have slightly different styles with brush strokes and palettes but it’s always that.

THE ART SCENE IN VANCOUVER Well, I’m from Mexico City originally, and in terms of art, it is such a vibrant city. There isn’t just one art museum, but there are over 10. Art is very important in the Mexican culture. So, in the 25 years that I’ve been here, I have seen incredible changes. When I came here in 1990, the art scene wasn’t very developed. Since then, I’ve noticed a huge growth, change and sophistication in terms of art. The quality of art is unbelievable. There are so many amazing local artists. It’s definitely an impressive growth from what I’ve seen. Of course it’s not New York or Berlin or even Mexico City, but relative to the size of the city, we are doing well!

MOTIVATIONS The passion of discovering new ideas and propositions. Some paintings flow very easily while others I may get stuck in the middle, but I just do it. What keeps me motivated is the actual art. For me, starting a new piece is really exciting. The feeing and the passion and the love behind it, totally keeps me motivated. The final product, too. When I’m painting I’m kind of in a frenzy because I want to see it done. But, when I see it done I almost feel a sense of sadness. It’s almost like when you read a really good book and you’re on your last page and you don’t want to finish it. But, at the same time you do, because you want to accomplish that. It’s the happiness of finishing it, but also a little bit of sadness because it’s done. I feel so lucky and privileged to be able to do art full-time and making a good living out of it. the Runway Beauty Look My favourite beauty look of the day was Emanuel Ungaro. It was the most out of my comfort zone, but I fell in love with the modern approach. In tune with runway trends this fall, the look is inspired by themes of diversity, the strength of beauty, and the beautiful and damned. The key to this makeup look is a fresh, glowing face with an intense black or dark lip. Caitlin Callahan from MAC Cosmetics was backstage at the runway show in Paris for the Fall/Winter 2015 collection and shows us how we can recreate the same love-worn Emanuel Ungaro look: To get the “I woke up like this� basic makeup look, start by brushing up your brows and curling your lashes. Exfoliate and moisturize your lips, then moisturize and prime your skin. Apply a water weight foundation, and conceal where necessary. Finish off with some minimal powder. On your prepped skin, highlight and apply blush to your cheeks, then add a sweep of Groundwork Paint Pot on your lids. Line your lips with currant lip pencil and fill in with a burgundy lip mix.

A Brilliant Story By DR. KELVIN P. MAH f you’ve read any of my previous articles, you’ve likely come to realize that my appreciation for dentistry goes far beyond education and expertise. When I see the end results of my patients, it’s not the teeth that I admire, it’s the vibrancy and excitement exuding from their new smiles. This story, I am proud to say, is one of the same. Shilan was one of my more recent patients who, like many of my clients, was referred to my practice from a close friend. Shilan, a wonderfully respectful and charismatic woman, had recently moved to Vancouver from Calgary with her young daughter and was in need of a new dentist. She had always visited the

same practitioner back in Calgary, and she had her reservations about other practices. I fully understood her concerns; having a dentist who has first-hand experience with your dental past is priceless. So, I was quick to reassure her that I would be happy to care for her smile for as long as she would have me. During our first meeting, she expressed minor concerns regarding tooth sensitivity. As most sensitivity cases go, she had a small cavity that had gone unattended in the past. It was an easy fix. However, when she was talking, smiling and trying to colourfully illustrate her dental history, she appeared to have a few reservations beyond the new office setting. In my experience, I’ve come to realize that hesitancy is a tell-tale sign of something big. It generally indicates that the sentiment is, in fact, extremely significant and important. With that idea in mind, I

abruptly asked her what her true dental aspirations were. She responded with, ‘I want healthy and beautiful teeth.” Now, cavity aside, Shilan’s teeth were extremely healthy. They functioned perfectly and were not broken, cracked or particularly stained. Beautiful, no? Well, when I asked her to elaborate, she expressed how the color wasn’t quite up to par. Of course, I suggested whitening. Shilan had never been told about all the new, safe and effective whitening options available. She was pleased to hear that a solution was so easily accessible and affordable. However, I still wasn’t truly convinced that she was fully satisfied with such a simple procedure. She expressed excitement, but it was muted and, perhaps, even feigned. So, I continued asking her what else she wanted—what she really wanted for her smile. NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2015

At this point, I questioned if I had asked a few too many times. She had become a bit quieter and I was worried that I may have annoyed her. However, after a short moment of silence, she abruptly said, “it’s too gummy.” Her voice was meek yet playful, as if she were trying to avert from the gravity of the situation. But after her initial explanation, her confidence began to grow and she continued into an expressive, honest and genuine declaration of how her teeth were too small, gums were too large and how the combination left her extremely unhappy. “Ever since I was 13, I would stare at my face and teeth for hours in front of the mirror to see how I could fake a smile. I’ve always been hesitant to smile,” she explained. But recently, Shilan had embarked on a selfimprovement exploration which included weight loss, healthier living choices and an all-over life make-over. And yet, she still found her overall improvement was being hindered by her “gummy” smile. “When I’m about to smile or laugh, I make sure to cover my mouth with my hands, scarf or just put my head down. In photos, I often look sad or serious,” she described.

assumed she wanted. To me, it is absolutely vital that I actively listen and fully understand what my patient’s concerns are. The psychological effects of a physical concern are profound and can create immeasurable stress and it’s my duty to alleviate or minimize such stresses to the best of my ability. During our next consultation, Shilan asked about porcelain veneers. She wondered if they would be a solution for her but was concerned of the cost. However, although veneers are often an ideal solution for addressing smile concerns, I suggested that she consider a different option. Veneers would allow her teeth to look larger but it wouldn’t make her gums any smaller. I then explained that her teeth themselves weren’t causing the problem, and that her teeth were, in fact, wonderful. It was actually her gums that were causing the unbalanced proportions. I suggested she consider a minimally-invasive gum reshaping procedure. This plan would be significantly more conservative and less expensive than the veneers while also eliminating the “gummy” appearance that was so clearly bothering her.

Being limited by a smile is a common issue, and I reassured her that her feelings were shared by many. A smile is like a physical resume. People often believe that they can tell everything about a person based purely on the appearance of their smile. Of course, Shilan was a fun and intriguing woman, but the small stress marks and muscle strain around her face gave off hints of displeasure; a common feature on individuals who are self-conscious of their teeth.

As it turned out, an ‘ideal’ result would entail a visit with a specialist and would involve reshaping both the gum and bone around each of her front teeth. However, I suggested a more conservative approach that would give her a nice result that would not involve affecting the bone. After all of our long consultations, I knew she didn’t want to spend a fortune, didn’t want a myriad of different doctors and wasn’t looking for a super-star, ‘wow, where did that come from?’ smile. She wanted her own personal smile, merely enhanced.

We all have unique interpretations of ‘beautiful’ and it was crucial that I listened to exactly what she wanted, not to what I

When we initially gave Shilan a mirror to review her results after the quick procedure, there was a long silence. I looked over to my assistant and my heart sank thinking that Shilan was unimpressed. My heart sank further when she broke into tears. Seeing a new smile can be devastating if it doesn’t look like what you imagined, and I thought that she was unsatisfied. But then, unexpectedly, the tables turned. Shilan jumped out of her chair and gave me a huge hug! “This has been bothering me since I was a little girl! You’ve given me my smile!” she proclaimed. She then gave my assistant a hug and continued to smile and weep as if a miracle had just taken place. It was then that we realized the gravity of what had just occurred. Not only was she pleased, but her entire life had changed, for the better. When Shilan returned a few weeks later, it was as if a veil had been lifted. She smiled with the vibrancy and energy of the whole world and there was no longer any strain around her lips. Her smile truly reflected how she felt about herself; confident, proud and beautiful. She commented that she has never smiled as much as she had in the past few weeks, ever. “Now, I simply smile without thinking about it anymore. I am more confident and I get more compliments about my smile. I don’t have to think when I smile or laugh. I just smile!” Shilan’s experience was a powerful reminder of why I started working in dentistry so many years ago. There’s nothing more fulfilling than making a lasting impact on a person’s life. And there’s nothing more gratifying than seeing the difference standing and smiling right in front of you. Morning Rituals to Empower Your Day (and Life!) By

T

here’s something magical about the beginning of the day. Despite the challenges, worries, doubts and fears we experience during the night before, the new dawn seems to hold a space for possibility and hope. The question here is, how can we step into that magical space and use the energy of it to propel us toward the day, uplifted and empowered. Much has been written about successful morning routines and I’ve got my own take on it below, but before I get to that, I want to say this: You are unique and so is your life. Before you go implementing the ‘morning routine of the successful’, I encourage you to consider the options below, and the many other suggestions available as just that, options. There are many ways to arrive at the destination you seek, so try some of these on for size, but don’t hesitate to let them go if you find something that is more in tune with your natural rhythm and way of operating. With that said, here are my 8 Morning Rituals to Empower your Day (and Life!)

1. START WITH GRATITUDE

5. LEMON WATER

At 42 years old, my step-father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and died suddenly. It was a complete shock for everyone in our family. But it was also a huge wake up call. Every morning when we open our eyes there is something hugely powerful about taking a moment to express gratitude simply for your life itself. From there, allow a few moments before you even open your eyes to scan your life, giving thanks for the things that pop into your mind. What you focus on expands in your life, so these sacred moments of gratitude create an energetic pull towards more of the same. I can’t think of a better way to start the day.

An amazing aid to your body’s natural systems is a large glass of room temperature water infused with lemon juice. It aids in your digestion process, it’s full of essential nutrients, provides hydration, helps maintain your immune system and is a great way to counter act that inevitable morning breath.

2. SEND LOVE FIRST Next up, scan your day and all that you know it will have in store. Before you even get out of bed, blast those spaces with love. The meetings, the conversations, the commute, the coffee shop, the work-out, the dinner preparation—all of it—from your heart to those moments, send love.

3. SET YOUR INTENTION How are you going to show up to life today? Put it out there before your feet even hit the floor.

4. MEDITATION Now don’t panic, you don’t have to sit in the lotus position for 2 hours, but don’t underestimate this ancient practice of mind control. Even five minutes of practicing to pay attention only to your breath can bring a level of mindful awareness to the fact that your thoughts aren’t as important as you ‘think’ they are.

6. BREAKFAST The word itself carries the essentialness of this step. Quite literally you break the fast you’ve been on overnight. Whether you’re in to green juice or not, for your metabolism, for your brain power, for your energy, for the love of life—eat something. Keep in mind your system is just waking up, so something light is better with a snack before lunch versus something too heavy first thing.

7. PLAN YOUR DAY AND WRITE IT DOWN I’m a huge fan of the notebook, and the power of writing down what I plan to do in a day. Writing causes thinking and it prompts your subconscious mind to draw to your awareness crucial bits of information and data that will be helpful in checking things off your list. It’s also great for your post-day review so that you can acknowledge yourself for what you accomplished. But keep it simple, no more than 5 things on your day’s ‘to do’ list.

8. LISTEN TO SOMETHING SOUL-SURGING A great piece of uplifting music, your favourite podcast, the next chapter of a motivating audiobook—fill your mind first thing with something positive and you’ll set the stage for more of the same throughout your day.

Skin Advice: Managing Open Pores By IRENA GAVRILOV

P

ores are the openings of hair follicles. Each one contains a sebaceous gland, which produces your skin’s oils. The size of our pores is actually determined by genetics. When the pores become clogged with makeup, dirt and oils, they appear larger. This is also the main cause of blackheads and whiteheads. Loss of elasticity and aging of the skin can also make them appear larger. The most ancient remedy for pores is to steam the skin. However, you can’t steam pores open because they don’t have muscles around their opening to allow them to open and close. So it may help loosen up the underlying debris for easier removal of blackheads, but harsh extraction can cause scar tissue underneath the skin and over time, put you in danger of permanently enlarged pores. Gentle daily or weekly exfoliators and microdermabrasion performed by a professional aesthetician will not damage pores.

The key to smaller pores is to cleanse and exfoliate with quality skin care products that are also free of toxic chemicals. A gentle diamond tip microdermabrasion at least once every 2-3 weeks will cleanse the pores and over time, shrink them. Once desired results are achieved, this process should be followed once every 6-8 weeks. If you have oily to combination skin, it is important not to use cleansers and creams that are thick or greasy, as this will cause more clogging. Use only gentle water-soluble cleansers and avoid bar soaps. On the other hand, dry flaky skin can also lead to clogged pores, so a weekly exfoliation and daily hydration with a moisture-rich product are necessary. It is very important to wash your face after exercising and before going to bed. Bacteria from sweat, dirt and makeup will contribute to breakouts and clogged pores regardless of your skin type.

Avoid makeup and skin care that has an ingredient called dimethicone, a silicone oil that puts a film on the skin like plastic wrap, which means the skin can’t breathe and it also interferes with the skins natural oils and barrier. Also avoid talc, which often contains asbestos, which may cause serious health problems. It also gets caught inside the pores and enlarges them. Look for organic skin care products and makeup that are actually healing for the skin and over time can help reduce acne, breakouts, scaring and large pores!

îner en Blanc Vancouver is the extremely popular, extravagant, all-white picnic presented by The Social Concierge group. The 4th annual event was held on August 25 at Canada Place, and 4,500 Vancouverites, who were lucky enough to get tickets (over 30,000 were on the waiting list) enjoyed a magical evening that will be fondly remembered for many years to come. Think unicorns, sprinklers, chandeliers, magic, champagne, live art, luxury and beauty. The first Dîner en Blanc was in 1988 and was started by a man named François Pasquie in Paris. It took place in the Parc de Bagatelle in the Bois de Boulogne. Today, the secret picnic is held in more than 25 countries. Jordan Kallman and Tyson Villeneuve—Social Concierge partners and presenters of Dîner en Blanc Vancouver—are also the presenters of TEDx Vancouver, The Deighton Cup, Harvest Haus, and Monogram Dinner by Design.
