Seasonal Slumps

Yes, there’s a name for it and there’s something you can do about it.

hen I was younger, I was always told that people had a slump in February. It was the time of year between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday magic and spring break that always seemed to drag at the pace of a sleeping turtle. Now that I am older (not old – just older) late September and early October is when I hit that energy draining time.

If you are a student or a parent of a student, this might be the time of year when questions about your class load start to surface. Why did I take so many classes? What’s the harm in skipping that particular assignment in order to get some sleep? What does the teacher expect anyway?

If you are not a student, you might still be asking some of these questions about your workplace. What is the purpose of these endless reports?

How many times can the phone ring before it just breaks? Who is the coworker who keeps eating my lunch?

It’s just that time of year.

So what can you do to infuse some energy into this time of year? Essential oils to the rescue (but you knew I was going to say that!) Before I get to the oils, let mention a couple other ideas.

Most of us already know that exercise, a solid night’s sleep, and proper nutrition will help us have more energy. But what if you don’t belong to a gym and the triple-digit temperatures don’t work for free outdoor exercise? Taking 5 minutes here and there at your desk to stretch

can make a big difference in spreading oxygen (and energy) around your body.

A costumed docent will lead you on a one hour tour of this restored urban dwelling of the 1890’s. The architecture of the Meux Home results in a calculated restlessness that makes the home as intriguing today as it was in its own day. The 10 rooms are furnished more or less as a Victorian family might have had them - the kitchen has a pie safe and the library; a portrait showing the young Dr. Meux on his way to join the Confederate Army.

The Meux home was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 14, 1975.
