l When choosing snacks for at home or on the go, select only whole foods. This means nuts, seeds, vegetables, fruits, eggs, yogurt, anything in its natural state, and hasn’t had any processing. Take a few minutes to put nuts or celery sticks or bell pepper wedges into a small resealable bag, so you have something easy to grab and go.
l Stop buying foods that aren’t healthy choices. If you have foods that you can’t stop eating once you start(and we all do), don’t buy them anymore! What’s your temptation? Spicy tortilla chips, donuts, salty pretzels, ice cream? Whatever it is, do yourself a favor and take it off of your shopping list.
l Get rid of phrases such as ‘not now,’ ‘I have too much to do,’ ‘I’m tired,’ ‘this is hard,’ and ‘I can’t’ when you’re focusing on a healthy habit. Give yourself the opposite message: ‘now is good,’ ‘I can take time for this,’ ‘this will give me energy,’ ‘I can handle this,’ ‘I can.’ Add in, ‘this is for me, and I’m worth it.’
Realize and acknowledge that you are creating healthy success for yourself through these tiny habits. Changes are happening even if you can’t always see or feel them. Don’t let your doubts about what you’re accomplishing get in the way of continuing with the habits. You gain success every single time you choose water instead of a frappuccino or walk for 10 minutes. Over time these simple actions will become your actual habits and won’t take a lot of effort to maintain. They’ll just become a part of your everyday life. ---
