No other time of the year feels quite like this one. The crossover into winter holds some ancient song that we all feel in our bones – no matter our heritage. Needless to say, it’s my favorite of all the holidays and of all the seasons, even though it’s not really a ‘season’ per se. But aside from the crisp morning air, longer nights, and spiritual reminders to slow down a bit – it’s truly Halloween that puts a little pep in my step. As a kid, dressing up as a ghoul, getting free candy, and staying up late was the root of why I looked forward to Halloween every year. As an adult, it’s watching the neighborhoods light up with decorations, local theaters showing spooky films, haunted houses … and scaring-trick-or treaters. Some of the best fun I’ve ever had was dressing up my front porch like a deranged butcher shop while limping around the lawn as an impressive zombie. All the while, my friends and family (in costume) challenged kids to try and make it to the front door. Most of the time, the presentation was enough to stop them at the sidewalk – and they would’ve skipped our house if not for their parents pushing them up the pathway. To be honest, the biggest laughs ALWAYS came from the parents. And the biggest scaredy-cats were teenagers.

But I digress. The idea was to give not only ourselves but the trickor-treaters an experience. I remember being a kid and absolutely loving the houses I was too afraid to approach. They stick out in my memory like a roller coaster ride of anticipation. It was finding the courage to make the walk to the door, every step feeling like a mile and double-checking that the prop wasn’t going to jump out at me. Most importantly, the excitement of actually getting to the door to get candy. It was a triumph! Those moments stayed with me much better than just ringing a bell, holding out my bag, and watching the candy fall in without any effort. Paying it forward to the younger generation and watching that same mixture of glee and terror light up their faces isn’t just fun – it’s like being a kid all over again. However, it seems like the decorated houses on the block are fewer and fewer each year. It may be due to finances (Halloween décor does get pretty expensive) or it may be because folks think it’s a children’s holiday of cavities – who knows. But I hope that if you’re able, you support your local haunted houses, put up a few lights and give a little ‘BOO!’ to the kids who put all the effort into their (no doubt) glorious costumes.

WICKED FUN Ghost Golf’s indoor mini golf course is the year round Belle of the Halloween ball. By Lisa Talley | lisa@fresnoflyer.com “My favorite two sounds in the whole world are screams and laughter together.” Daryn Coleman, the master-mind creator and co-owner of Ghost Golf, smiles warmly as he looks over his spooky wonderland. It’s the same look you’d expect to see on someone who has finally come home after a long trip. “I love hearing people scream and then laugh because they screamed or everyone around them is laughing because they screamed. That’s my favorite sound.” It’s not quite a haunted house, but it’s close. Ghost Golf ’s unique setting sits quietly in an unassuming shopping center on North Blackstone in Fresno. If it weren’t for the painted ghosts on the windows – no one would be the wiser as to what lay inside. The lobby is welcoming – again, wholly unassuming – some arcade games line the walls, and a couple tables invite you to take a load off. But it’s what waits beyond the curtain that’s the real star of the show. One step inside and the mood slightly shifts. The lights are dim and the unnatural sound of whirring spirits ‘wooshes’ out of the speakers to set the ambiance. Players are greeted by a pair of hooded skeletons holding a single (fake) torch to guide them into the game. Each hole on the course contains a different scene that comes alive by either pressure or motion sensors set off by the players: a singing head, a dancing voodoo doll, or an unexpected blast of air that’s sure to make someone in the group jump. With all the various scary surprises awaiting the players, however, gore is one element that’s left off the table. “I try to keep things as family-friendly as possible, I don’t like gore, and I don’t have actors. Even the things that pop up, they’re usually saying funny, silly stuff at you,” Daryn explains. True to his word, he steps on a pressure sensor nearby that activates a moving skeleton head that cackles alive with a playful message for the golfers. “I’m only 20 years old, you know how I got here? I ate too many

Dunkin’ Donuts!” When asked how he thought Ghost Golf fared on the fright meter, Daryn gave his course a rating of 3, maybe 4. “I just want everyone to have a really good time and enjoy themselves with their family and friends,” he shares.

ited to the Halloween season. It wasn’t until Daryn and his wife, Janice, were in Santa Cruz visiting a pirate-themed indoor minigolf course called Buccaneer Bay. It was here that a light bulb went off for him. An indoor mini-golf course that he could design with all his Halloween flair was just the ticket!

Ghost Golf was the evolution from Daryn’s front yard – months of designing, weeks of building, all for a few hours of glory for one night of the year. The desire to showcase all of his work all year round pressed on him, but he didn’t know which format would be best. A haunted house seemed like the natural conclusion, but just like the front yard display, would likely have a lifespan lim-

And everything is designed around the custom, handmade effects. Unable to suppress a chuckle, he says, “Where can I put this pop-up head to get the maximum effect for it? I didn’t want to use windmills and boring stuff so here I [get] to use a little bit of fear.” While the theme and player experience are the biggest inspiration to the de-

sign, so is practicality and safety. None of the props are within arm’s reach, and Daryn’s ADA compliant course has adapted the wheelchair access points with a unique set of bristles (of his own invention). The bristles are firm enough to stop a ball from rolling out of play but still sufficient for wheels to roll over with ease. Beyond the eerie décor and the fun, jump-scare experience, Ghost Golf also includes free, unlimited gameplay on some select arcades including Daryn’s very own ‘Mummy Shootout.’ Imagine a classic carnival game that requires shooting a moving target with either a jet stream of water or little metal pellets. Now, replace the little ducks or clown targets with life-sized mummies either completely enclosed in a casket or halfway hiding behind an object. Oh, and you’ll be shooting targets with a laser gun that on a successful hit, one of the multitudes of mummies comes to life. Like everything else in the course, Mummy Shootout is a creation right out of Daryn’s vivid imagination and hard work. From the ‘wrought iron’ fences, ‘stone’ walls, characters (and their voices), to the massive trees that reach down with gnarled arms. The only artwork in the building that doesn’t have his distinctive mark is the murals on the walls that create the backdrop for the golf course. That was the collaborative effort between Janice and Fresno artists. With Halloween just around the corner, it’s a must-add to the list of pumpkin patches, trick-or-treating, corn mazes, and bobbing for apples. And the experience lives beyond the season, so for those who enjoy a haunting-good-time no matter the month in the year, rest assured that Ghost Golf will be happy to have you. Ever adapting, adding, and updating the course with new creations, they’ll be ready. -Located at 5179 N Blackstone Ave, 93710. Open Tuesday through Sunday, hours vary. Hanford Carnegie Museum Needs Your Support By Lisa Talley | lisa@fresnoflyer.com

ho are we without our memory? It’s a loaded question no one ever wants to know the answer to because the weight of it would crush us with its truth. We’d be but an empty vessel, a thin shadow of our former selves that would quickly vanish with the faintest of breezes – as if we’d never existed at all. The same could be said for every city, whether a sprawling metropolis or a quaint, picturesque small town. Where families and friends would keep the memories of the individual alive, it’s the museums that become the caretakers of history – the memory that keeps the soul of a city alive. But for the Hanford Carnegie Museum, it could all disappear without a trace in a matter of months. Gifted to the City of Hanford by the steel tycoon, Andrew Carnegie, in 1905, the museum began its tenure as the city’s free public library. It served the community in that capacity for nearly 70 years until it

was converted into a museum. Nestled in the quiet, historic neighborhood of downtown Hanford, the museum is a Romanesque stone building that is home to artifacts dating back to the late 1800s. Most notably, a suitcase and dress left behind by Amelia Earhart that was designed by the famed pilot herself. “Amelia used to teach at the Chandler Airport, it was only for a couple of months, but while she was there, she became close friends with Mary Packwood – a Hanford native, and Amelia would come to visit here often. The luggage was left behind when she went missing,” explains Museum Manager, Patricia Dickerson, “Having these here is a big deal for Kings County.” The Smithsonian Institute has been after the Earhart items for years, with offers to purchase them from the Hanford Carnegie Museum but to no avail. Other displays showcase items and uniforms of local military veterans through-

out the different war periods; bomber jackets, flight suits, dress uniforms, along with photos, and newspaper clippings. On the second story of the museum are smaller displays housing historical photos and items from the Hanford Fire Department, Sheriff’s Department, and the Native American communities. Of particular interest are the riding saddles from the original Hanford Sheriff’s Posse of the 1890s that visitors are welcome to touch. Unlike most of the items on display, they aren’t sequestered behind a sheet of glass or velvet rope – but positioned in the room where attendees can trace the intricate and finely detailed designs with their hands. The Hanford Carnegie Museum literally puts history at its guests’ fingertips. It’s a wonder why the City of Hanford appears to be working against them. “Some members of the community, in my view, cannot stomach the new draw that the museum is bringing in… and that’s the youth,” shares board president and Latina

playwright, Silvia Gonzalez S. The museum has come under fire from select members of Hanford’s community who disagree with some of the changes that have taken place recently. According to both the board president and museum manager, it’s due to the rise in the number of the younger generation flowing in and out of the establishment. “It’s the younger generation that is going to inherit this place. In all reality, as the older generations leave, the youth are next in line to take care of it all. We need them to get involved, so we’ve been trying to encourage activities that bring them in and get them engaged here,” explains Dickerson. Activities such as a free acting class once a week, a sensory room for kids, theater productions, and a Pokémon Go group that meets at the museum as a starting point before walking around town together, simultaneously gaming. The augmented reality app even identifies nearby historical landmarks while they play, giving the group more opportunities to learn about their city. Ever-vigilant ‘concerned citizens’ have lobbied complaints to the City Council about various youth spotted frequenting the museum – and without any understanding as to who they are. One guest happened to be a teacher inquiring about a field trip for her grade school students, and another sits on the museum’s board. Grand assumptions of delinquency or disrespect must line the malcontent

... ‘Museum’ cont’d from pg 4 behind these ‘concerned citizens’ complaints. But none of the museum board or staff would know since not one of these protests has been brought to their direct attention. Instead, they receive the backlash later, after the City Council has tired of hearing the repeated grievances. The Hanford Carnegie Museum is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, was saved from destruction and renovated in 1974, and is the placeholder of Hanford’s diverse history. It would be in the city’s best interest to work with, preserve, and protect the museum. Instead, it chooses to squeeze them dry through strict enforcement of regulations and unrealistic timelines. A laundry list of eighteen items for correction was sent to the board, ranging from general grounds keeping to structural repairs such as cracks in the building’s walls – all to be completed within 10 days. The museum has only one full-time staff member. The notice held no consideration for a third-party repair company’s availability or the specification that any updates to the building required the City’s approval to make sure repairs were “consistent with the nature of the historic building.” What’s more, the city owns the

property – the lease cleverly puts the responsibility of the property’s maintenance and large-scale repairs onto the museum. The board has been doing its best to meet the requirements, but a step forward has been three steps back. Among the long list of repairs, fresh sod was needed in the back courtyard to meet the City’s landscaping regulations. They did, but mother nature struck them with a fungal disease that wiped out their new grass in a matter of weeks – over $3,000 down the drain. The board is

looking at starting over again, but this time, laying the sod themselves with a group of volunteers to save on costs. And, at the time of this article, with thirty days to ensure its success. As the call for repairs and updates continue to stack up, and the timelines shorten – the board’s resources dwindle. “I think it’s going to close the museum, to be honest with you,” Gonzalez shares. Losing the museum would mean losing the connective thread that bridge the

current generation to those of the past. And not only for the City of Hanford but for those Central Valley families who are longtime residents, as well. But the team is determined, hopeful that the broader community will come together and show their support for such an iconic piece of Hanford’s history. As part of a fundraising effort, the Hanford Carnegie Museum will host Haunted Flashlight Tours on the weekends (Friday-Sunday) on October 11-13, 19-20, and 25-27. The tours will start at 7 pm and take place at the museum. A donation of $5 is encouraged. Reflecting on the anticipated long road ahead, Gonzalez and Dickerson try to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Their hope is weighted with exhaustion, frustration, and melancholy. Yet, even still, they have faith. They need to. Otherwise, they’d have to accept the genuine and pressing alternative – shutting down. When asked how she thought Hanford would suffer without its museum, Gonzalez said, “Closing the museum would mean closing up the history of [our] people.” Gonzalez, Dickerson, and the rest of the board welcome you to visit the museum, to become members, and support their efforts to help ensure that the Hanford Carnegie Museum continues to be a pillar of the community for many years to come.

A Creative Twist on Halloween Carvings

(Family Features) When it comes to Halloween, carving the same pumpkin designs each year can become routine. This year, save a pumpkin and carve your spooky masterpiece into a watermelon instead. Nutrient-rich watermelon can be a healthy alternative to other sweet treats full of added sugar during Halloween festivities as it’s a source of vitamins A and C as well as the antioxidant lycopene and the amino acid citrulline. Because they are made up of 92% water, watermelons can be an effective way to stay hydrated during trick-or-treating, and creations like a Mummy or Jack O’Melon can help satisfy sweet cravings while keeping friends and family members frightfully delighted. To get started, consider these carving tips and tricks: * To make cutting and slicing easier, the watermelon should be at room temperate when carving. * Cut a small, thin, flat piece from the bottom of the watermelon to provide a stable

base for carving.

* Draw the design on the watermelon rind with a dry-erase marker before cutting. If you make a mistake, this can make it easier to wipe off. * Use a sharp knife with a pointed tip for easier, cleaner cuts. Consider a paring knife with a smaller tip for ease of detail. * Blend scraps of watermelon that are too messy for dicing or slicing to create an easy juice. For more watermelon carving ideas, visit watermelon.org.

On cutting board, place watermelon on its side and use kitchen knife to cut off 1/4-1/2inch of rind from bottom to provide sturdy base, being careful not to cut too deep into white part of rind. Cut 1-2 inches from stem end to create opening for bowl to be added. Using dry-erase marker, draw eyes, nose and mouth, along with wavy slits around carving. DÍA DE MUERTOS ALIVE By I. smiley G. Calderón

or those of us who are not too familiar with Día de Muertos, or “Day of the Dead” - that seemingly mystical Mexican holiday that immediately follows our comfortably familiar Halloween night of all things spooky and sweet. Seeing skulls and bones not only decorated but celebrated alongside candlelit altars may seem strange - or even scary, and talking about death may seem eerie, too. But, the truth is, Día de Muertos is much more than a time to dress up and eat, or talk about death and dying. Unlike the Halloween of today, where fun and terror go hand-inhand, Día de Muertos is a traditional time for commemoration and celebration of loved ones who have passed on. It is a special time of reflection and spirituality - a time to remember the dead and invite their memory and essence to come alive. Mini altars with candles and photos of loved ones surrounded by the foods and drinks that they enjoyed most while alive are erected and embellished to remember them by. Día de Muertos is a meaningful remembrance of our ancestors as a celebration of life along with the dead. Beyond that, it is at the same time recognizing our collective fate: death, the complete cycle of life. Honestly, I’m no Día de Muertos expert, and personally, my Chicano family doesn’t even celebrate it. We’ve lost our traditional connection to Mexico through many generations of living in the United States, assimilating to mainstream culture. Like many Americans, I just conveniently thought that Día de Muertos was the Mexican version of the American Halloween. Oh boy was I wrong. Unlike Halloween, which has now evolved into a night of wicked fun without spiritual significance, Día de Muertos has maintained its indigenous tradition of honoring the dead. And despite any religious or governmental opposition. For example, the Catholic Church, in their attempt to convert the indigenous to Christianity and strip American natives of their roots, hijacked Día de Muertos and relabeled it “All Saints Day” and “All Souls Day.” This came after they realized that the people refused to abandon such an essential part of their culture. Strong traditions die hard, and every year on the first and second of November, traditional Mexican families gather around to remember their loved ones. They invite their memory back to the land of the living, honoring and remembering their ancestors. All while enticing them with sweetbreads and drinks placed on personalized altars dedicated to their memory. It is a unique and magical time. This is why I wanted to learn more

about this important holiday from someone who could genuinely resonate its essence and help me better understand its magical tradition. So, I turned to a local popular Fresnan artist, Mauro Carrera, for the lesson. Mauro, a Mexican visual artist, and muralist raised and educated in Fresno, recently finished an acrylic painting celebrating Día de Muertos and graciously shared it with me. He calls it: Entre Mictlan y El Barrio (translated: Between Mictlan and The Neighborhood). What makes this piece so unique is that it captures a different vantage of Día de Muertos. Instead of the ubiquitous images of La Calavera Catrina - the iconic female sugar skull - and other myriad skull imagery, Mauro focuses on the more mystical and spiritual aspect of this holiday. He highlights Xoloitzcuintli, or “Xolo” for short - the ancient mini hairless dog breed who is said to welcome the dead as their spirit guide to Mictlan, the mythological underworld and land of the dead. In this piece, | FRESNOFLYER.COM |

Mauro effectively demonstrates how visual representations of Día de Muertos can go well beyond skull imagery. His work is a beautiful six-piece modular painting full of vibrant colors and evocative imagery that captures the nexus of two worlds connected - the living and the dead. Mauro’s color expression is crucial to him, especially in retelling ancient afterlife mythology. He tells me with an artistic seriousness that poignantly matches the topic: “I’m trying to acknowledge all that is through color - tapping into the concept of God.” Indeed, with all of its incredible colors and tones, Entre Mictlan y El Barrio is a remarkable reflection that truly taps into the spiritual energy of Día de Muertos. In the center of the painting flickers a single candle - an iconic image of light and life in the next world - which Mauro painted to represent all of the colors of the chakras. For Mauro,

| FEATURED | DINING | CALENDAR | MUSIC | CLASSIFIEDS |

incorporating all of the colors of the whole spectrum in his work is important and vital. And, it is especially meaningful in this piece. Mauro explained to me his personal experience with Día de Muertos, as it is a significant spiritual holiday for him and his family. Every year, his family honors their ancestors by preparing beautiful altars for their passed loved ones. They decorate them with pictures, favorite foods and drinks and, of course, with the beautiful Marigold flowers for their potent scents and vibrant bright colors. (When Mauro described this altar flower to me, sadly, I didn’t know which he was referring to. So, he sent me a beautiful picture of him with an armful of them so that I’d never forget) But, I asked him - what if I’m not Mexican, Mauro? Or, what if I’m atheist can I still appreciate and celebrate this sacred holiday? His candid answer? Absolutely. To Mauro, Día de Muertos is about honoring and remembering your ancestors, your family, your loved and missed ones. “Even if you’re not Latino, even if you’re agnostic, even if you’re atheist,” he tells me. It is a magical time to celebrate the Day of the Dead - alive. | FRESNO FLYER |

The Hammer Road Rally Bicycle Race

T

he Hammer Road Rally Bicycle race brings fun and fundraising for the arts to Fresno CountyThe secret is out: Fresno County is earning its reputation as a basecamp for world-class cycling. On October 19, several hundred riders from all over the US will converge on Shaver Lake for the Hammer Road Rally, a bicycle race that will take them on a challenging and scenic journey into the seldom-traveled backroads of the Sierra National Forest. The Hammer was born of one local resident’s passion for cycling. Edward O. Lund, a Fresno State faculty member, avid cyclist, artist, curator, and one of the founding organizers of Fresno’s Art Hop, tragically lost his life in late 2015 due to a cycling accident. His family honors his legacy at the Hammer, which serves as a fundraiser for the Ed Lund Foundation, which supports aspiring artists at Fresno State University through a study-abroad scholarship program. The race is produced by Bike Monkey, the cycling events team behind Levi’s GranFondo and other world-class bike rides all over Northern California. The Hammer Road Rally aims to serve hardcore cyclists and beginners alike with four route options for all ability levels. The largest route, the Hammer, is an epic ride with one particular climb even the most hardened rider will never forget: up and over Kaiser Pass, over 9,100’ above sea level. Cyclists looking for a true adventure will encounter genuine gravel road segments that will challenge and inspire them. Both longer routes will be timed with awards going to the top competitors in various age/gender categories. Now in its fourth year, the Hammer brings more than just world-class cycling to Fresno – it also brings an afterparty that has earned its reputation as a fun-filled destination for all ages, rider and non-rider alike. Food trucks, fresh beer from Mad Duck Brewing, and top-shelf live bands playing against the breathtaking beauty 0f Shaver Lake make it an occasion that everyone will love. --------What: The Hammer Road Rally Where: Edison Campground, Shaver Lake When: October 19 What: A bike race that’s much more than a bike race. Live music, food, drinks, and art.

SAMHAIN

The History of Halloween By: Dave Fountinelle | davebh1975@gmail.com

F

ull disclosure, Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday. Ever since I was a kid, I have loved everything about it. From the costumes to the decorations, to the scary stories, and especially all the candy! Few things brought more joy to me in my childhood than coming home with a sack of candy so full I could barely carry it. As I got older, and my interest in Halloween shifted from candy and funny-smelling vinyl costumes to the supernatural, I found myself fascinated with the origins of the holiday itself. Learning about the history behind Halloween gave me a whole new level of appreciation for it. I’m no expert by any means, but if you will indulge, I would like to provide you with the 50-cent history of Samhain, the holiday behind Halloween. Samhain is a Celtic spiritual holiday and the most important of the four quarterly “”fire festivals”” that the Celts celebrated, falling between the fall equinox and winter solstice. During this time, the ancient Celts would spend long hours in the fields, harvesting. They would let their hearth fires burn themselves out while they were gone. When the harvest was done, the people would gather together, and druid priests would light a massive fire. They’d recite prayers and blessings, make burnt offerings of cattle to give thanks for their bounty. And everyone would ignite a flame from the fire to bring back to their houses to relight their hearths with. The celebrations were both lively and mandatory. It was believed that failing to participate in the Samhain festivities was an insult to the Gods who had provided such a good harvest. Those who didn’t attend would

be cursed with illness or even death. Not that it took much arm-twisting to convince the ancient Celts to join the revelry. Samhain lasted for days and was filled with feasting, drinking, dancing, and merrymaking of all kinds. It was also a time of great superstition that reflected the dark side of ancient Celtic mysticism as well. The Celts believed that the barrier between the spirit world and the world of the living was at its thinnest during Samhain. And this barrier could, in fact, be easily breached, allowing all sorts of fantastic creatures and spirits to cross over, both malevolent and benign. Many of these spirits and monsters would find their way into the legends, ghost stories, and modern literature of cultures all over the world. The Dullahan, for example, who were often described as headless men on horses, carrying their heads in their arms, would inspire the famous story of Ichabod Crane in Washington Irving’s short story “”The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”” Their presence was believed to be an omen of death. Even the Halloween tradition of trickor-treating has its roots in another Samhain monster myth. The ancient Celts believed a group of hunters, called the Faery Host, would invade villages, moving from house to house, to kidnap children and steal their souls. Legend has it that, when the Faery Host would knock on someone’s door, the residents would fill their sacks with “”treats”” instead of children, that would either satisfy them or “”trick”” them into thinking they had been given a child instead. The tradition of wearing costumes while trick-or-treating

comes from Irish and Scottish traditions, where people would put on costumes and go door to door singing songs. Often times, small cakes or candies would be given in appreciation. Through the middle ages and the spread of Christianity throughout Europe, Samhain began evolving from a festival where participants celebrated along with spirits and other creatures, to one meant to protect people from them. Instead of lighting huge, communal bonfires for celebration and sacrifice, smaller ones were lit at each home to ward off spirits and witches. The first jack-o-lanterns, which were carved from turnips and filled with hot coals, were also employed to frighten away evil spirits. They would later be replaced with the pumpkin versions we are familiar with today, and the coals replaced with a candle. When European settlers arrived in the New World, they brought the tradition of Halloween along with them. The Christian influence continued to shift the holiday away from the living and the dead celebrating together to one where fearful penance was given to the spirit world in hopes of driving away their evil influence for another year. If Samhain was a big party to thank the spirits for their blessings and good favor, then Halloween was a ceremony to ward them instead away so that the affairs of the living would not be cursed by their evil influence. This was also a result of the efforts of the church to remove Paganism from traditions wherever it was found. The dancing, drinking, and wanton jubilation of the Celts was deemed

| FEATURED | DINING | CALENDAR | MUSIC | CLASSIFIEDS |

savage, lewd, and immoral by the church. As is the case with all other Christian holidays with Celtic roots, the partying and indulgence were removed and replaced with reverence and moral observance. The infamous Salem Witch Trials almost spelled the end of Halloween in America. The wide-spread religious paranoia of that time created an intense fear of Paganism or anything that wasn’t expressly Christian. However, rather than rejecting these traditions altogether, the early American Puritans simply reinvented them as Christian ones. Expanding on what European churches had done, the Gods and spirits of the Celts were replaced by the Christian God and holy trinity, while the faeries, imps, and other malevolent spirits and tricksters were replaced by Satan and his demonic followers. Thankfully, despite the best efforts of the church, Samhain was not lost to history. To this day, thanks to the many different groups of Pagans, Wiccans, and Celtic re-constructionists, the traditions of Samhain are still celebrated all over the world. Samhain is a fascinating ceremony. It celebrates perhaps two of the greatest mysteries of mankind that yet haven’t been answered to this day – why are some years better than others? And what happens to us after we die? Trying to find the answer to both of these questions is the foundation of basically every religion on Earth. You gotta give the Celts credit though, their solution was to cook a bunch of food, get really drunk, and dance until you passed out. Now THAT is something I can get behind!
