Fresno State athletic director Jim Bartko’s “Empowering Excellence” speech on Thursday featured an answer to a pressing question Bulldog fans have had since he was hired last November. Yes, wrestling will make a comeback. As part of a measure to make Fresno State more competitive, Bartko announced the proposed addition of wrestling and water polo, bringing the total number of Bulldog sports to 21.
It’s a part of a five-point plan he spelled out on how Fresno State will improve: achieve highest standards, strengthen the pack, build home-field advantage, expand competitive opportunity and swell the Red Wave. “When you lay out a plan in place, you have to have something you’re doing,” he said. “And you have to have a vision going forward over the next five years. By Tomas Kassahun & Diana Giraldo Friends and family of Molly Griffin remember her passion in nursing and compassion for others. Griffin, 23, graduated from Fresno State in May with a degree in nursing and was working as a surgery nurse at Madera Community Hospital. She was about to be a homeowner. On Saturday night, as Griffin and a friend were driving back from visiting a northeast Fresno house she planned on buying, a suspected drunk driver ran a red light, causing a collision that killed her and another passenger. Police said the suspect was heading north on Friant Road when he collided with Griffin’s white Acura SUV as she was turning left off East Copper River Drive. Griffin died at the scene.

Dr. Sergio La Porta, professor in the armenian studies program, concluded this years’ Fresno State Talks last night in the Satellite Student Union, with a lecture on the importance and relevance of the Armenian Genocide and how it shaped world civilization today. Titled “Who Cares? Genocide, Historical Memory, and Moral Responsibility,” La Porta’s lecture emerged from his own personal history with Armenian studies as a graduate of Harvard University. Lucy Garayan, a senior psychology student, joked that although La Porta’s last name did not end in a “ian” representative of the Armenian heritage, his expertise and love of the field and the people inspired his students
