P29M FMR Ends Residents’ Agony by Fretcher Magatao

Another farm-to-market road (FMR) amounting to P29 million with a length of 2.3 km from Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) has been turned over recently to the Municipality of Talacogon, Agusan del Sur. The concrete road covers an influence area of more than 100 hectares mostly planted with rice and directly benefits 9,064 individuals. “The struggle of transporting the farmers’ produce for more than two hours before has now been shortened to 10 minutes which can be translated to saving so much time and energy for the farmers,” said Barangay Del Monte Chairman Isaias Masendo.
Masendo added that only
carabao-controlled wagon can pass the area before and farmers needed to pay at least P50 for bringing their produce to the highway. Now with the FMR, they only spend P5 to P10.
constructing a shed where tricyles or other transportation vehicles are located to carry the passengers from Batucan to Malihao and vice versa according to Aguilar.
The Project sees to it that the road would not only be useful for the easy transportation of goods, but it would also create emerging benefits out from its establishment. “People who happen to pass by this concrete road can feel the big difference compared before where there were days that students and workers would prefer to walk barefooted because of the muddy and steep way,” said Purok Chairperson Angelica Aguilar.
“I believe that the residents who donated a parcel of their lot for this road have no regrets since not only they are now relishing the beautiful road, they are also assured that this can still be enjoyed up to the next generation,” said Regional Director Abel James Monteagudo.
Now that the concrete road is being enjoyed by the many, some residents have been considering to establish a small-scale store or
Mayor Jesryl Masendo said in his message that the government takes pride of presenting this project to the people. “I have seen how every thing was done and the residents have nothing bad to say about it. I hope more projects like this kind will be established,” Mayor Masendo said.
