Since 1962 Neri is the symbol of excellence in high-end outdoor furniture and lighting systems in Italy and worldwide. future technological developments are constantly applied to requests coming from outside the company and from the markets. This is done using tools that play a key role in the planning stage as well. Highly sophisticated equipment that is unique in different ways: such as one of the largest and fastest goniophotometers in use in Europe, which makes it possible to test the lighting performance of products and to check compliance to restrictive regional norms on light pollution. We also have a “Light room”, a test set that is the most attractive and technologically advanced at Neri – a type of wind tunnel through which light “blows”.

This is trial by fire for each component, where monsoon rain, saline mist, mechanical impacts, electric stress and other intensive treatment reproduce decades of the effects of the working life of structures and equipment in a few hours. New products are also designed and developed in these places, within the company, where the utmost technical and scientific rigour is applied. The tests cover the lighting equipment, light sources and surface coatings. Safety tests, such as that to determine the degree of protection against water, solid bodies, or dust getting in, and performance tests that make it possible to measure the light flow and colorimetric characteristics of various sources, therefore provide essential added value to the Company.

Smart city

In 1950 just 26% of the world’s population lived in the city. Today this is more than half and in the next few years the percentage will reach 65%. Cities absorb about 70% of the world’s energy reserves. Public lighting accounts for 50% of this. Public lighting accounts for about 20% of the Public Administration’s budget. The use of LEDs combined with a Smart control system for lighting could result in up to 80% energy saving. In 2020 infrastructure investments for Smart Cities are set to reach USD 117 billion.

Energy saving and systems to control lighting, in relation to environmental policy, traffic regulation, and managing the territory. This is the Neri Smart System - technology developed for intelligent light & energy management and control. The use of sensors that are fully integrated with the design for Neri products makes it possible to regulate light levels to suit ambient conditions, traffic or time slots. Alarm messages can be sent to the emergency response teams, activated by sensors that detect incidents. HD video cameras can be integrated, and WI-FI services diffused. The entire system can be controlled and programmed through internet, using a simple web interface that is accessible everywhere. We have been working on making our cities more beautiful for 50 years, Now we want them to be more liveable and intelligent.

Environment and LCA

All Neri’s industrial processes are carried out in a plant that meets the highest levels of sustainability. At Neri, safeguarding the environment is a real commitment: Targeted investments have been made to reorganise the production process in order to significantly limit emissions of solvents into the atmosphere. One example is the waterbased painting process that uses water soluble substances that are harmless to the ecosystem. In addition, Neri has introduced an LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) analysis, which allows them to identify which phase in the product’s life cycle can be invested in, to reduce its environmental impact. Combining this approach with LED technology and Neri’s Smart System makes it possible to significantly reduce CO2 emissions as well.

Foundation and MIG

The objective of the Neri Foundation and the Italian Museum of Cast Iron, created under the impulse of Neri’s passion for art, crafts and industrial culture, is to promote the development of research, with a particular focus on the interrelations between urban décor, architecture and urbanism. An irreplaceable resource and an invigorating look at the past to beautify and illuminate the cities of the future.

There can be no vision of future cities without experience of those of the past. Designing for Neri means plunging the tools of investigation and research into urban history and culture, exploring their passionate and continuous relationship with the world of architecture and urbanism. The Neri Foundation and its Italian Museum of Cast Iron (MIG), the latter created to document and preserve the largest collection ever assembled of cast iron products in the world today, play this role: they provide a unique documentary archive to the benefit of Neri research and development, on which to base their choices of tradition and innovation. An iconographic wealth (including 5000 postcards featuring street furniture, in the process of being digitized) and a collection of great impact (over 200 historical pieces from foundries, cities, government stores, found in every corner of Europe), representing an extraordinary historical and educational heritage, but also providing knowledge for restoration and reproduction activities, which can thus achieve otherwise inconceivable results. Permanent and periodic exhibitions, collaborative projects with cultural institutions and research centers, continuous exchanges with universities and corporate museums throughout the world, complement the current activities of the Neri Foundation.

Introduction

Design: Makio Hasuike

Alya, conceived by industrial designer Makio Hasuike, is the system designed for the 50th anniversary of Neri (1962-2012). The base, common to all the posts, draws on a typical feature of the Neri lamp posts, to which matter was somehow “subtracted” while an original LED lighting solution was added, outlining and decorating the surrounding space. Equipped with an advanced LED technology, its innovative light fixture is the contemporary version of a lantern. Up to two units per lighting point can be installed on the system. We expect to combine it with an urban furniture series, currently being designed. Materials. The posts are made of steel with an alluminum base, while the light fixtures are of die cast aluminum. Finishes. The standard colour is black RAL9005. The posts are painted with a highly eco-friendly, water-based process. The system is certified to last over 1500 hours with exposure to salt fog and UV rays.

Introduction

The Hydra system, signed by designer Makio Hasuike, is the quintessence of the concept of comfort. Therefore it is very suitable for urban centres to which, thanks to its spheroid shape, it adds an unusual, dreamlike, almost lunar style. The standard source of its light fixture is a LED, with high reflection mixing chamber and a phosphorus glass that appears yellow when it is off for best aesthetic results. We expect to combine it with an urban d茅cor series, currently being designed. Materials. The posts are entirely made of steel, while the light fixtures are of die cast aluminum and galvanized steel. Finishes. The standard colour is black RAL9005. The posts are painted with a highly eco-friendly, water-based process. Introduction

The distinctive feature of the Matar system, designed by Makio Hasuike, is the square-shaped light fixture, extremely flat (which on request can be equipped with LED lights on its boundary) which the designer has combined with posts of various heights, angles and shapes. The thin and elegant rods, present in some versions of the system, are another important feature: they capture the imagination and are reminiscent of a desk lamp. Introduction

The Atlas system, signed by designer Makio Hasuike, was conceived with the aim to achieve the best results in terms of performance on the roads and in large urban areas. Up to two units per lighting point can be installed. The covers of the light fixtures were designed for optimal dissipation of the heat produced by the two LED modules, providing maximum lighting performance and excellent results in terms of energy savings. We expect to combine it with an urban d茅cor series, currently being designed. Materials. The posts are entirely made of steel, while the light fixtures are of die cast aluminum. Finishes. The standard colour is black RAL9005. The posts are painted with a highly eco-friendly, water-based process. The system is certified to last over 1500 hours with exposure to salt fog and UV rays.

Chara is designed by Studio ATA. A modern and essential design featuring a base with angled end and cylindrical light fixture hung from a long arm. The street furniture that completes Chara, the Carya series, includes: panel, clock, bus shelter, planter, bin, parking deterrent and ashtray, designed by Alfredo Farnè and bench designed by Massimo Iosa Ghini. Materials. The posts are in steel. The light fixtures are in cast aluminium. Finishes. The standard colour is the so-called Neri Grey: created with a colour formula that is close to the characteristic tone of cast iron. The posts are painted with a highly eco-friendly, water-based process. Resistance is certified to over 1500 hours with exposure to saline mist or UV rays.

Projects: I - Cosenza

Naos, by designer Giampiero Lepreti, is for lighting up roads and pedestrian areas. It is comprised of an angled rectangular post, surrounded by a bracket with two parallel surfaces and a light fixture with a clearly floral feel. The system comes in two heights and has two possible positions for the light fixtures. The street furniture that completes Naos, the Lotus series, includes a bench and a parking deterrent. Materials. Posts and brackets are made in steel. Light fixtures are in sheet metal and cast aluminium. Finishes. The standard colour is RAL 9006 silver. The posts are painted with a highly eco-friendly, water-based process. Resistance is certified to over 1500 hours with exposure to saline mist or UV rays.

Rigel has been devised for urban streets with mainly road traffic. The post, enhanced with a decorative base with parallel and oblique grooves, like the bracket in the same style, are the work of designer Alfredo Farn猫. The coordinated, hi-tech light fixtures are the work of designer Pietro Zulian (Gran Studio Villa Triste). The street furniture that completes Rigel, the Lotus series, includes bench and parking deterrent. Materials. Posts and brackets are in steel. The decoration is in cast iron. The light fixtures are in steel and cast aluminium. Finishes. The standard colour is the so-called Neri Grey: created with a colour formula that is close to the characteristic tone of cast iron. The posts are painted with a highly eco-friendly, water-based process. Resistance is certified to over 1500 hours with exposure to saline mist or UV rays.

Castore is a versatile system in classic style. This system has a square or octagonal base with an ovule and leaf decoration, a grooved or plain column, a circular lantern or a decorated pastoral. The street furniture that completes Castore, the Scilla series, includes: bench, fountain, parking deterrent, clock and bus shelter. Materials. Posts are entirely made in cast iron with supporting core in steel. The light fixtures are in metal sheet and die-aluminum. Finishes. The standard colour is the so-called Neri Grey: created with a colour formula that is close to the characteristic tone of cast iron. The posts are painted with a highly eco-friendly, water-based process. Resistance is certified to over 1500 hours with exposure to saline mist or UV rays.

Tabit brings back classic style with a sober feel. Inspired by traditional European design, it includes circular or octagonal bases, columns with delicate floral decorations – grooved or plain – brackets and round or square light fixtures. The street furniture that completes Tabit, the Layia series, includes: bench, fountain, bin, parking deterrent, barrier, advertising panels and bicycle parking rack. Materials. Posts are made entirely in cast iron, with supporting core in steel. The light fixtures are in cast aluminium. Finishes. The standard colour is the so-called Neri Grey: created with a colour formula that is close to the characteristic tone of cast iron. The posts are painted with a highly eco-friendly, water-based process. Resistance is certified to over 1500 hours with exposure to saline mist or UV rays.

Configuration options

Product catalogue organisation: standard, on-demand and customised configurations.

- Every lighting system is presented in an initial standard configuration, i.e., with predefined combinations for bases, tops and light fixtures - Within each system, there are several standard configurations which, for example use different light fixtures - To opt for different solutions other than the standard configurations, we also offer on-demand configurations. in fact, it is possible to use tops and/or light fixtures from within each system-even different ones from those offered in the standard configuration-which increases the number of possible combinations - There is also a distinction between standard and on-demand in technical lighting terms. as you can see from the tables listing the technical features of each lighting fixture (on the final pages of each chapter for each system), there are technical configurations (power, shield type, etc.) offered as standard and others offered as on-demand - The on-demand options for each system can be found inside every chapter dedicated to the system in question - I f you are looking for something different from the on-demand configurations available, we also have a customised configurations section. in this section it is possible to create any base-top-light fixture combination, as long as each section is mechanically compatible with the others - For customised configuration quotations, contact Neri
