Wow! Two months into 2011 already and spring is just around the corner! I know it is cliché to say, but time really does fly, doesn’t it? For me, 2010 was a year of immense loss, change and growth; 2011 promises to be a year of continued change, growth and opportunity. During this year, I will be leaving my sixteen-year career to pursue other opportunities in western Kansas.
Interested In Attending A Fine Arts Performance For Free? The Friends University Fine Arts Office is looking for alumni to help usher at various performances at the Wichita campus this spring. Volunteers will receive free admission to the performance and are asked to stay for the entire performance to assist with intermission.
As I write this, I have no idea yet where I will be employed! I tend not to relish the unknown, but I am learning to trust that there is a plan in the works much bigger than me. The path ahead is a bit scary, yet exciting and inspiring. My faith has been tested (and proven, I think), and I look forward to whatever the future holds.
For more information or to volunteer, please contact the Alumni Office.
In Other University News... Friends named four finalists in its search to replace long-time president, Dr. Biff Green, who will retire June 30, 2011. Since fall 2010, members of the Presidential search committee have been working to identify Friends’ next president. The candidates were selected from an original pool of more than 70 applicants. The finalists are as follows: • • • •
Dr. Deneese Jones Dr. Tom Keon Dr. TJ Arant Dr. Willam Berry
The Board of Trustees will make its final selection this spring, and the new leader of Friends University will start July 1.
Career Fair Open to Alumni The Friends University Campus and Career Transitions Office is hosting its annual Career Fair Thursday, March 31, 2011, from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Held in conjunction with Newman University, this fair will take place at the Newman Conference Center. For more information, go online to www.friends.edu/career-fair. I hope each of you are looking forward to the gifts and opportunities we will each have in 2011 and in all the years to come. As Helen Keller once said, “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” I choose to have a daring adventure!
