Summer time… and the living is easy (assuming you’re inside!) Welcome to the summer issue of your Campus Connection. Many of you may have been watching the Colorado fires during July and were concerned about Friends University’s Rockcleft camp outside of Colorado Springs. As of this writing, the camp had been evacuated for their safety, but has since reopened for business!
Elizabeth (Johnson) Fitch, G’83, and her husband David adopted two Ethiopian girls (Jerusalem Kathryn Fitch, age 8 and Bethlehem Rebecca Fitch, age 6) on Dec. 6, 2011. We celebrate with you in your work to change the world one child at a time!
News you can use… have you seen the news about the Delano District (Seneca and Douglas) expansion for the Friends University Art Department? Two historic buildings have been purchased and will allow not only the instruction but a gallery to display the student’s artwork!
Linda (Bowlin) Kizzire, G’80/M’03, assumed the Sedgwick County Treasurer’s position in January 2011. She and her husband, Mike, have a grown son and one grandson. Congratulations, Linda!

As of June 25, the Alumni Office learned that the Friends University state license plates were shipped from the Division of Vehicles to all Kansas county tag offices. This means that by the time you read this issue of Campus Connection, the plates will be available to pick up from your local county tag office! A supplemental order for Sedgwick County has been placed as of July 16. The ceremony took place at 2 p.m. in Garvey Gymnasium in the Garvey Physical Education Center. Approximately 600 students, alumni, parents, friends and members from the local community were in attendance, along with nearly 50 delegates from visiting colleges who showed their support. Rodney Pitts, G’82, chair of Friends University Board of Trustees, presided over the installation of the president, followed by Dr. Arant’s inaugural address. Music was provided by the Friends University student brass quintet, the University Concert Band and the Singing Quakers. A cocktail-style reception in McKay Gymnasium at the Casado Campus Center followed the ceremony, with music provided by the Friends University jazz ensemble and string ensemble. Page 1 Continued The state has agreed to collect the state mandated fees for the non-profit support, so you won’t have to first contact the Alumni Office. More information will be forthcoming, so keep an eye on your mailbox. For those that preregistered, the Alumni Office has been sending out certificates for you to take to the tag office. Mark your calendar – the Run With Friends team will be participating in the Wichita Prairie Fire Marathon scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 14. The Run With Friends team was established to create a strong University presence in the Wichita community. Throughout the year, the goal is to host four running opportunities throughout the academic year. A sea of red T-shirts is an awesome sight to behold. (If you are like me and prefer to run at a slower rate, that’s totally acceptable as well!) Run, walk, or jog with the Run With Friends team and help share the Friends University pride with our community. My space is quickly filling up. Keep the updates coming – we are anxious to know what you have been doing since our time together at Friends University!
