License Plate Update on Page 2

Summer is definitely here in Kansas. It has been over 100 degrees in several areas. Some of our MBL alumni are in much hotter climates and of course some are in cooler climates. I’m currently working in Chanute, Kan., where it’s hot and the wind seems to blow all of the time, almost like a convection oven.

I have been working for Southeast Kansas Regional Planning Commission in Chanute as the executive director since April 2011. I oversee 12 southeast counties, have six employees, and work with counties, cities, businesses, and colleges striving for economic development. My business law degree from Friends has opened many conversations and many doors. It has also given me an edge in many situations. I would like to hear how your degree has helped you in your professional and/or personal life. Send me an email about your situation and how your degree has helped you. I would like to share it with our MBL classmates in future class newsletters. You may recall in previous issues of our newsletter, I shared with you how members of the Friends University Wichita Alumni Advisory Board are working towards

funding an endowed scholarship that will give a deserving student the same academic opportunities in life we have enjoyed. To date, they have earned approximately $8,600 of the $200,000 goal. One endeavor that has long been in the works is the Friends’ license plate. (See page 2 to learn about getting your own Friends license plate.) The $30 fee for any plate purchased in the state (excluding the Topeka and Kansas City areas) will automatically go to this scholarship fund. Another item that the board worked on this summer was a professionally produced video by Periscope Digital Media that tells the story of why this endowed scholarship was created, who it will impact, and what it means to the University and you. I encourage you to take five minutes to watch this video by going online to http://bcove.me/h2o6yq8d. I wish the very best summer for each and everyone in 2012.
