Daniel Crook, M’05 MBL Class Agent crook.daniel@sbcglobal.net You are invited to the inauguration of President Dr. T.J. Arant.
Winter greetings to all our MBL alumni! I’m not ready for winter weather, especially the ice and snow. I’m currently working in Chanute, Kan., where the wind seems to blow all of the time. Some of our MBL alumni are in much warmer weather. If you are one of these lucky persons, drop me a note and let me know how great the weather is where you are.
If your MBL degree has helped you in your professional and/or personal life, I would love to hear about it and share your story with our fellow graduates. You are welcome to either send me an email or you can also complete the form at the top of page 2 of this newsletter and send it to the Alumni Office. They will make sure I receive it so I can properly spotlight you in a future newsletter!
One of the great things about this class newsletter is that it gives us a chance to network with one another, no matter where we live. For example, I am excited to let you know that since April 2011, I have been working as the Executive Director for the Southeast Kansas Regional Planning Commission. I am over 12 counties in southeast Kansas, have six employees, and work with counties, cities, businesses, and colleges striving for economic development.
The Alumni Office has also been working very hard with members of the Friends University Wichita Alumni Advisory Board to help fund an endowed scholarship that will benefit a deserving student who hails from the central northeast part of Wichita. They’ve recently started a concert series entitled “An Evening with Friends...” where a guest alumni performer puts on a benefit concert. Previous performers include Tammy Stamps, G’82, and GMA Dove Award Winner Mitch McVicker, G’95. Plans are underway for another “Evening with Friends...” concert in the spring, so be sure to check out the Friends University Web site at www.friends.edu for more information. They’ve currently raised $8,000 of their $200,000 goal. For more information about the scholarship or how you can make a donation, send me an email and I’ll be happy to provide you with more information.
When I was interviewed for the position, the interview committee noticed the MBL degree I have with Friends University and they asked about the degree. I shared with them that my MBL degree helped give me an edge over the other candidates and that it has opened other doors that would have otherwise been closed to me.
