From the Fine Arts Chair, Dr. Stephen Eaves The College of Business, Arts, Sciences and Education along with the Division of Fine Arts welcomes you to the 2012-13 Fine Arts Performance/Exhibit season at Friends University! This year we have planned a wonderful variety of performances and exhibits by a diverse group of artists. There is something for everyone! Fresh, innovative visual art, exciting ballet, expressive jazz, inspiring instrumental music, stellar singing and entertaining theatre only begin to describe the many Fine Arts performances and exhibits we offer. I personally invite you to review this brochure and reserve your seat for any and all of our Fine Arts performances and exhibits at Friends University. Highlights of our season include a production of the “family friendly” musical ‘Curtains’ during Homecoming week in October. Distinctive artist lectures by Carrie M. Becker and Joel T. Dugan are scheduled for December and January. Also in December the beloved holiday tradition of ‘The Nutcracker’ will feature Friend University Ballet majors and guest artists from Houston and New York City Ballet. February brings the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Friends Jazz Festival. Internationally known guest artists will help us celebrate two decades of great jazz at Friends and in Wichita! Along with these fine events, you will also experience great performances and creative work by our students, talented faculty and more than 15 guest artists! Your attendance and support of our annual season allows us to build a rich creative culture of performance and learning that cultivates future young artists. Make the effort to join us and experience this creative culture. You will not be disappointed! New this season--- we offer the opportunity to purchase tickets on-line at www.friends.edu/finearts. We continue to offer ticket sales through our Box Office in the Riney Fine Arts Center or by calling 316-295-5677. (see page 15 for more details) The Division of Fine Arts is honored to bring the finest performances and exhibits to our college community and Wichita, from visual arts and music to ballet and theatre. Whatever your taste, I hope you’ll join us as the Friends Fine Arts season spotlights the next generation of artistic endeavors. Dr. Stephen Eaves, Division of Fine Arts Chair
