The Friends University Singing Quakers performed at the Cherokee Christian Church Saturday, March 2nd, to more than 125 attendees. Joining the Singing Quakers were members of the Kansas City Kansas Community College Chamber Choir. The sound and emotion the choir stimulated was incredible and lead the audience to several standing ovations. The conductor, Dr. Mark Bartel, was accompanied on piano by Cindy Blasdel, and special guest tenor, Dr. Paul Smith demonstrated extraordinary vocal array. The tour started February 28th with two concerts in Salina, Kansas. There were two concerts the next day in Topeka and Kansas City. The final concerts were in Kansas City on March 2nd and 3rd. After the concert, a special dessert reception was hosted by members of the Friends University Kansas City Alumni Advisory Board. Many thanks to everyone who was able to attend this wonderful concert!

Save The Date: Friends University Day at the T-Bones By Dawn Kingery, ‘83, 2nd Year KC AAB Member It's official! The Kansas City T-Bones have designated Saturday, June 22, 2013 as “Friends University Day” at the ballpark! You and your family are invited to join the Kansas City Alumni Advisory Board for a pre-game tailgate dinner prior to the 7:00 game against the Laredo, Texas Lemurs and a chance to enjoy the game with your friends and classmates. Friends University is a major sponsor of the game that evening and, among many other types of recognition, the players will display the Friends University logo on their uniform. Group seating for this special event will be limited. Watch for an opportunity to secure your reservations in the April newsletter.

Kansas City Alumni Advisory Board Members Help Local Charities We’re excited to share with you that members of the Kansas City Alumni Advisory Board have been busy this spring helping out various local charities: 

Steve Parscale, ‘86/’88, along with others in the Drexel Missouri United Methodist Church helped feed hungry people through a work day with the Harvester Community Food Network.

Sheryl Dick, ‘92, as a member of the Church of the Resurrection West, took a meal for 16 homeless women who stay overnight at the Grand Avenue Temple during the cold winter months. “We served and shared the meal with them, as well as devotions, and also just listened to

whatever they wished to share with us. It was quite moving.” 

Dawn Kingery, ‘83, and her bible study group provide and serve dinner to the homeless and near-homeless the second Wednesday of every month on behalf of Neighbor 2 Neighbor. The N2N service site is located in the Westport area.

We’d love to hear from other alumni that are also helping out in their local community! If you’d like to have your church or charity spotlighted in a future issue of this newsletter, please click here to contact the Alumni Office.
