40 days: the big idea As we enter a new season as a church, we’re wanting to set aside a 40 days period of prayer and fasting, of humbling ourselves before God, and of seeking Him together. Starting on my commissioning service on Sunday, 6th September, the 40 days following will be a time of preparation and consecration, to help us begin this new season in a way that honours Jesus and aligns us for greater fruitfulness. I’m asking all our Missional Communities to ‘pause’ meeting during these 40 days, in order to create some space for a number of other opportunities to engage with God corporately, as a whole church. I’d like to invite you to join us as much as you are able to during this significant time. John Harding
Practicalities: Sundays [various times and places] The six Sunday meetings between the 6th September and the 11th October will each consider Jesus’ 40 days of preparation in the wilderness, from a different perspective, with a range of applications for us, today. Tuesday Evenings [7pm to 10pm] We’re going to set aside Tuesday evenings for extended worship, prayer and hearing God together. This will take place from 7pm to 10pm at the Wavertree site – come for as little or as long as you like. Wednesday, Thursday & Friday Mornings [7am] There will be opportunities for early morning prayer together in Wavertree (on Wednesdays), in Toxteth (on Thursdays) and in the City Centre (on Fridays). Again, come for as little or as long as you like. The ‘Bridegroom Fast’ [weekly, over 24 hours] Increasing numbers of people have been engaging in the ‘Bridegroom Fast’ – a weekly 24 hour fast – for a greater passion for Jesus, and for His return, reflecting a bride’s longs to be united with her bridegroom. Friday 16th October [5.30pm to 8pm] On the 40th Day – we are going to eat together (bring and share!), and give thanks for what God has done. We will re-tell our God-stories from the previous 40 days season, and celebrate His great grace to us.
