A visual Celebration of our community

On The Front Porch

There is a technique taught in most art schools called contour drawing. In some cases it is done by not lifting the pen from the paper and not looking at your drawing as you move the line over the page. It forces you to really concentrate on what you see, especially working in ink.

There is a modified version where you can look at the drawing some of the time. It's very slow going and often you need to retrace a line to keep from lifting your pen. This sketch of my front porch is a bit like that. I've taken some liberties but tried not to lift the pen from the paper. It's a great exercise that I come back to often. Give it a try yourself and see how you do. Happy September!
