Whether this is your camper’s first experience at an overnight camp or whether they’ve been attending a few years and are ready for their next big adventure, Frost Valley is the perfect place for children and teens to step out of their comfort zone and experience exponential personal growth. This summer will give your camper the opportunity to experience the magic of camp! We are already planning how we will make summer 2024 our best summer yet! Numerous program offerings allow families to select from a broad range of options that appeal to each camper’s interests and needs. From traditional overnight camp, to horseback riding and farm camps, to adventure programs, there’s truly something for everyone here. All of the programs within these pages are rich with long-treasured summer camp traditions and activities, such as storytelling around the campfire, hiking, archery, boating, and more. And as always, everything we do is guided by our signature core values: caring, community, diversity, honesty, inclusiveness, respect, responsibility, and stewardship. Frost Valley is committed to providing an engaging, growth-filled summer camp experience for all. Campers become bunkmates with new friends of varying backgrounds, abilities, and beliefs. They are guided by counselors and role models to help campers create a welcoming, lively community. CAMP FOR ALL Every child deserves the opportunity to have the summer of a lifetime. Enrolling in a Frost Valley camp program opens a world of opportunities in leadership, skill building, and appreciation for the natural world. We believe the cost of summer camp should not be a burden on any family. For this reason, we offer the following options to make camp more affordable: •

FROST VALLEY STAFF Frost Valley YMCA is dedicated to hiring only the most qualified and experienced counselors to care for our campers. Many have been with us since they were young, journeying from camper to counselor in training (CiT) to counselor. They know our history, culture, traditions, and terrain as if they have Frost Valley in their DNA. Before being hired, all Frost Valley YMCA staff over 18, including our counselors, are given background and criminal history checks. Counselors undergo extensive training in our policies and procedures, which stress health and safety.

TIERED PRICING & FINANCIAL AID Knowing that families have different abilities to pay registration fees, Frost Valley YMCA offers a Tiered Pricing model. Simply choose the tier most suitable for your family. All campers receive the same Frost Valley experience, no matter which tier you choose. Tiered pricing offers an opportunity for you to take an active role in supporting the true cost of your child’s camp experience. As you consider your family’s financial situation, please also consider the true cost of camp. TIER A reflects the overall cost of running camp for each camper, supporting our beautiful grounds, facilities and the long term financial health of the organization. Please pay this tier if you are able to. TIER B most closely reflects the true annual cost of running camp for each camper. Please pay this tier if you are able to. TIER C is a modestly subsidized price for camp. TIER D is a highly subsidized price for camp. In the event that Tuition A, B, C, or D are out of your family’s budget, additional financial aid is available. During the registration process you will be able to complete an additional Financial Aid request. Financial assistance can be awarded for up to 2 weeks of camp. TRADITIONAL OVERNIGHT CAMP
CAMP WAWAYANDA (GRADES 2-7)
Many young campers spend their first nights away from home in Camp Wawayanda, where they discover a cabin full of new friends waiting to meet them and form lifelong bonds. Our staff are specially trained to care for and address the needs of young children, especially in the areas of homesickness and developing their social skills. Children grow alongside one another and discover that differences can be celebrated and triumphs are often shared. Camp Wawayanda is a traditional overnight camp where, during two-week sessions, children build independence while choosing from a wide range of activities based on age, interest, and ability. Campers gain confidence, new skills, and good friends as they climb the Y-tower, hike to High Falls, canoe across Lake Cole, and learn from role models from around the world.

CAMP HENRY HIRD (GRADES 8-10)
At Camp Henry Hird, teens come together for two weeks at a time to enjoy a wide range of camp offerings, including extended overnight camping trips on the trail, and adventure courses like Giant’s Ladder and Leap of Faith. These experiences may seem like pure fun and excitement (and they are!) but our staff design each activity to promote lifelong traits of character, such as leadership skills, conflict resolution and problem solving skills as well as an attitude of embracing diversity and inclusion. On a daily basis, we witness the transformation from camper to young leader, as teens exceed their own expectations and become confident, socially responsible stewards of the natural world.

ADVENTURE CAMPS
ADVENTURE RAMBLERS Explore the Catskill mountains during the one-week adventure intro program! Campers entering grades 5-7 are invited to dip their toes into Frost Valley’s outdoor adventure programs. Campers will gain new skills as they sample and learn the basics of backpacking, camping, climbing, paddling, and environmental education. The Intro to Adventure program enables participants to build confidence in their outdoor skills so they can take on the next level of adventure programming. Campers will also gain a sense of belonging, not only in nature, but in the adventure program at Frost Valley YMCA as a whole.

ADVENTURE TRIPS
LEADERSHIP TRIPS In our Leadership Track, participants will gain experience and confidence in the technical skills of backcountry camping while developing their leadership skills. From cooking a meal over a camping stove, reading a map and compass, to managing a campsite, participants will gain a deeper comfort with and appreciation for nature and the outdoors. With guidance from our Trip Leaders, campers will begin taking on different roles amongst their trip mates and become decision makers of the trip. These trips are for campers who have had experience with wilderness camping or have a strong desire to participate in it.

The Adirondack Hike and Climb trip is an entry-level trip for the adventurer at heart. Campers will learn backcountry camping skills like orienteering, fire building, and backcountry cooking. Campers will also test their limits and find the value of teamwork. They will spend most of their time backpacking in the remote wilderness of the Adirondacks, summiting high peaks and camping by pristine lakes, and some of their time will be spent learning to rock climb on some of the Adirondacks’ most celebrated crags.
Can’t decide between paddling on the water and summiting peaks? This trip features both! Spend the first half of the 10-day trip backpacking through the Adirondacks. After summiting some high peaks, it’s time to swap trekking poles for paddles as campers embark on 5-days of canoeing through the pristine rivers and lakes along the Raquette River. Previous backpacking and canoe experience is recommended.

WHITE MOUNTAIN HIKE & CLIMB
The Adirondack Paddler is for the water-loving adventurer looking to develop their paddling skills and their leadership. From paddling small streams to large lakes this trip offers opportunities to build confidence and teamwork in addition to mastering paddling skills. Campers will get to experience canoeing and kayaking. Come join us for the experience of a lifetime, making lasting memories and connections while calling some of the most beautiful waters in the country your home for two weeks.

Looking for an adventure to push and build your paddling skills through the pristine lakes of the Adirondacks? Then the 90-mile Adirondack Paddler is for you! This trip features 12 lakes, 9 portages, and one major river starting in Old Forge thought the Fulton Chain and along the Raquette river to finish on Tupper Lake. Six campers and their two trip leaders will be paddling approximately 10 miles a day – but could see longer or shorter days depending on the terrain – while practicing proper canoe carry technique, good paddling practice, water safety, and backcountry leadership skills.
Join us for Frost Valley’s month-long expedition of Vermont’s famous 272-mile Long Trail. Led by two trip leaders, campers will embark on an expedition of the oldest continuous footpath in the US. Campers will challenge themselves while building and developing their backcountry leadership skills. Campers will experience approximately 63,500 ft of elevation gain and loss from summiting many of Vermont’s highest peaks and experiencing some of the state’s stunning vistas. Participants will be a part of the end-to-enders club of thru hikers after completing this trip. *Campers should have previous extended backpacking experience and should be comfortable in the backcountry before embarking on this trip.

ADVENTURE TRIPS
AFFINITY LEADERSHIP TRIPS Building off of our successful Young Women’s Leadership trips, these affinity leadership trips are designed to build a camper’s self-confidence in their identity and belonging in the outdoors through wilderness challenges, growth experiences, and empowering interpersonal relationships with peers who share similar life experiences. We will also facilitate and engage in intentional conversations about leadership and the outdoors through the lens of camper identity.
BIPOC EMPOWERMENT TRIP* (girls+/boys+, grades 9-10) SESSION 2: 7/14-26 FEE (PER CAMPER/SESSION): $3,000 Join our affinity trip to hike and climb in the iconic Adirondack Mountains! This trip is designed to build a camper’s self-confidence through wilderness challenges, meaningful growth experiences, and empowering interpersonal relationships within our BIPOC community. Campers will be led by their two BIPOC trip leaders on a 10-night trip backpacking through the famous Adirondack Mountains covering 5-8 miles a day in a backcountry experience where they will summit mountain peaks, camp by pristine lakes, and climb some of the ‘dacks’ most celebrated crags on the last two days of the ten on-trail days. This is a beginner level trip for campers who are interested in starting their outdoors journey in an affinity space of likeminded individuals. Campers should be comfortable hiking and sleeping in tents. *This trip is led by BIPOC staff and is open to any BIPOC camper.

SERVICE TRIPS Our service trips are for campers who want to make a difference and see the amazing impact that service can have on the world and on themselves. We offer three very different service trips so campers can connect to a type of service that is meaningful to them. Campers who participate in our service trips will receive a signed letter recognizing them for at least 30 hours of service per trip.
ADIRONDACK TRAIL BUILDERS
CATSKILL TRAIL BUILDERS (girls+/boys+, grades 9-12) SESSION 3: 7/28-8/9 FEE (PER CAMPER/SESSION): $2,900
(girls+/boys+, grades 9-12) SESSION 1: 6/30-7/12 FEE (PER CAMPER/SESSION): $2,900 Join us on an adventure that gives back to a place that we visit frequently: the Adirondacks. This is an amazing opportunity to help maintain the trails we use so often. This trip will entail different projects such as clearing brush, building bridges, and digging water dams. Campers will spend their days off hiking and climbing in the beautiful Adirondacks.

Join us in the Forever Wild Catskill Mountains as we help maintain our trails and complete service work for our local community. Campers will learn all about trail building and gain knowledge and skills in digging water trenches, clearing overgrown brush, creating vista points, and completing other projects on the nearby trails. On days off, they’ll explore the best vista points in the area and visit the local fire towers.
MAINE TRAIL BUILDERS
(girls+/boys+, grades 9-12) SESSION 2: 7/14-26 FEE (PER CAMPER/SESSION): $2,900 Maine Trail Builders is for the adventurous camper who also wants to make a difference. On this trip campers explore the beautiful area of Acadia, Maine, as they help maintain trails and complete service work with the National Park Service. Campers will dig in the dirt, trim trees and complete various other projects around the park. On days off, they’ll climb cliffs above the ocean and hike the highest peaks with the best vistas in the National Park.

In our Experience Track, participants will be introduced to many different adventure Trip Camper activities throughout some of the most pristine places in the Northeast. Each of these trips are multi-sport trips and participants will begin to learn different camping skills like cooking over a camping stove or fire, setting up camp, and Leave No Trace seven principles©. With support from our Trip Leaders and licensed guides, campers will be challenged to step out of their comfort zone to build confidence in themselves and develop a deeper appreciation for our outdoor world. By the end of the trip, participants will have learned something new and gained a deeper appreciation for nature. There is no prior experience required for these trips, but participants should have a strong desire to participate.
MAINE COAST**
(girls+/boys+, grades 7-8) SESSION 1: 6/30-7/12 SESSION 3: 7/28-8/9 FEE (PER CAMPER/SESSION): $3,410 This trip, set in Acadia National Park, is perfect for the adventurer looking for the challenge of climbing, hiking, and paddling. Join us as we climb the Otter Cliffs, hike the highest peaks in the National Park, and kayak along coastal islands all with Certified Maine guides. Featuring full days of sea kayaking, campers will experience island hopping and exploring these incredibly beautiful and remote places. This trip offers a little bit of everything for any adventurer ready for a challenge.
WEST VIRGINIA WHITE WATER**
(girls+/boys+, grades 8-9) SESSION 2: 7/14-26 SESSION 3: 7/28-8/9 FEE (PER CAMPER/SESSION): $3,410 On this trip, you will spend two weeks learning the art of whitewater rafting in the world-renowned New River Gorge of West Virginia. This trip is one of our most popular, having run for over 25 years, and is a great next step in the adventure experience. Participants will learn a variety of rafting techniques, do some spelunking, and hike and explore the stunning natural environment of the New River Gorge.
VERMONT VOYAGER**
(girls+/boys+, grades 9-10) SESSION 1: 6/30-7/12 SESSION 4: 8/11-23 FEE (PER CAMPER/SESSION): $3,410 Join us for your next big adventure on the stunning Lake Champlain in Vermont! Experienced campers will learn to work as a team and master technical skills as we spend days sea kayaking and sailing. Join us on this trip as we create memories and lasting connections to friends and the outdoors.

HORSE PROGRAMS AT MAIN CAMP (GIRLS+, GRADES 3-5 & BOYS+, GRADES 3-8)
Frost Valley YMCA is home to two different horse camps on main camp: Mustang Village and Durango Village. These programs are ideal for campers who want to live the life of an equestrian, but also participate in traditional camp activities. Campers spend half of each day learning the basics of horsemanship and developing riding skills, while the remainder of the day is devoted to a wide range of other camp activities, including swimming in the lake, hiking, arts and crafts, climbing, overnight camping trips, and more. Campers live in a lodge or cabin with counselors who have exceptional skills with horses and childcare. No previous riding experience is required.

EAST VALLEY RANCH Located just one mile from Farm Camp, East Valley Ranch is set in a picturesque location dedicated to providing campers with an exceptional experience working with horses and enjoying summer camp. This program is designed for campers with all levels of horse experience and our highly knowledgeable and passionate staff are eager to help them develop confidence in their abilities both in the saddle and in life. The East Valley Ranch programs teach both Western and English style horseback riding techniques, but experience from all backgrounds and disciplines are welcome. Campers sleep in yurts arranged by age and enjoy their own private dining hall and a variety of program areas.

Young equestrians will learn not only how to ride, but also the responsibility that comes along with caring for horses. Campers are assigned a horse for one week and will switch mid-session. They spend half of their day at the barn, focusing on their riding technique and learning about grooming, tacking, veterinary care, and training techniques. Another portion of each day is spent hiking, completing high and low ropes elements, boating, and making arts and crafts. Campers will enjoy water activities several times each week, an overnight camping experience, and an all-camp day focused on a theme.
For older girls, this month-long adventure provides new challenges and opportunities to further advance their riding technique and gain a deeper knowledge of horses. Girls spend half of their day with the horses, working on horse training techniques and learning about what it takes to own your own horse. Throughout the month they will design and practice their own drill team show and prepare and head out on an overnight under the stars with their horses. Four-Week Campers will also get the chance to take part in traditional camp activities. This program helps build strong, independent, and experienced equestrians.

Saddle up and hit the trail for this exciting horse trekking adventure through Parent our pristine Catskill Mountain trails. Spend full days exploring on horseback with our NEW trail route. Riders will spend more time on their horses than ever before! Campers will have full responsibility for caring for their horse while on the trail including grooming, tacking, feeding, and much more. Learn outdoor wilderness skills while spending nights at campsites. This challenging yet fun excursion requires that riders be confident walking/trotting a horse and comfortable in the great outdoors. FARM CAMP
FARM CAMP (GRADES 2-10)
Farm Camp is set on a 515-acre working farm with a barn full of animals and a colorful garden, both of which are tended to daily by our campers. Here, children learn to care for all kinds of animals and cultivate and harvest the garden. At farm camp, children learn on a deep level what it means to live a healthy life by eating the very foods they’ve grown and how important it is to be stewards of the earth.

Frost Valley Farm Camp’s Mongolian yurts are arranged by age and gender, and campers spend their days integrated as a united community. This gives campers of all ages the chance to learn from one another, mentor others, and develop skills at their own pace.

Campers also enjoy the simple pleasures of summer camp: boating, playing games and sports, making arts and crafts, participating in water activities, and bonding with friends over the campfire. FARM ACTIVITIES:
Learn about the care of a variety of livestock including goats, sheep, chickens, pigs, cows, and rabbits. Pick berries, learn where your food comes from, harvest, prepare, cook, pickle, make jams, compost, plant, save seeds, be a steward of our 3-acre garden space, and don’t forget your appetite for homegrown, healthy foods! Collect eggs, muck stalls, harvest veggies, and enjoy family-style meals. Learn blacksmithing, wool arts, candle making, soap making, and cooking in the kitchen. iN-TRAINING PROGRAMS The Frost Valley YMCA in-Training Program guides teens entering 11th grade in the Fall on the path to leadership, preparing them for employment as a counselor. The month-long program concentrates on leadership training, team building, skill development, service to camp, and personal growth. In a month’s time, we witness profound transformations, from camper to counselor, as these teens gain confidence and independence. The in-Training Program is for campers who have demonstrated responsibility, maturity and an interest in learning how to take more of a leadership role at camp. There is an application and interview process to be accepted into this program. Interested campers should email campdirector@frostvalley.org.
OVERNIGHT CAMP COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING (CiT) PROGRAM This month-long program is offered twice per summer. It gives participants a wellrounded overview of the entire Frost Valley Camp Counselor experience. Campers participate in workshops and get firsthand experience working with children. They go on a wilderness trip where they learn to plan meals, set up, and break down camp, and use resourcefulness to overcome obstacles. This program gives campers the experience needed to become a camp counselor.
ADVENTURE-IN-TRAINING (AIT) PROGRAM AiT is also a month-long program offered twice each summer. AiTs will go on a 10-day wilderness trip in the Adirondacks. AiTs undergo a week of counselor training and programming training, and one week of incabin experience.
FARM CAMP FARMER-IN-TRAINING (FIT) PROGRAM During the month-long Farmer-in-Training program, the FiTs will have a week of essential training required to be a counselor. They will partake in a 4 day, 3 night hike. They will help lead and plan a specialty class for campers, and lastly they will spend a week shadowing counselors for an “in yurt” experience. Throughout these four weeks, the FiTs have the opportunity to learn all the basics of being a counselor.
EQUESTRIAN CAMP WRANGLER-IN-TRAINING (WIT) PROGRAM The Wrangler in Training Program is designed to give previous equestrian campers the chance to see what it’s like to be a counselor and staff member with the Equestrian Programs at Frost Valley. The month-long sessions of the WiT program will take place at East Valley Ranch twice during the summer. WiTs will complete an in-cabin as well as an in-barn week where they will go through some essential trainings required to become a counselor at Frost Valley. They will also complete a service week where they will help give back to the Frost Valley community. Past projects have included clearing trails used by both horses and campers.

9:30 a.m. CHOICE PERIOD Campers will pick the activity they want to do! There are a variety of options; such as hikes, art and crafts, exploration games, and sports. The options will change every day!
10:40 a.m. WATERFRONT Our staff lead this recreational program on our own Lake Cole, under supervision of certified lifeguards and water safety instructors. We offer canoeing as well as rowing, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, and a ton of water sports!
11:50 a.m. wawayanda / 12:50 p.m. hird LUNCH & REST HOUR 2:00 p.m. CREATIVE PROGRAM Each village community will gather for a large group creative activity! These games will use camper’s imagination, they will build team work skills, and they will get very goofy.
3:10 p.m. SPECIALTIES Experienced instructors teach these popular skill-building sessions. All Wawayanda and Henry Hird campers choose two 4-day long specialties. Choices vary and may include a variety of sports, theatre, music, cooking, gardening, nature, arts, high ropes, and adventure courses, and hiking.

It’s a Small World is the World’s Fair of Frost Valley! Paired with our celebration of Independence Day, the global cultures of our international staff are highlighted with festival activities for our campers to partake in. From face painting to tasting international cuisine, the afternoon’s activities highlight our worldwide community. After an afternoon of culture sharing, campers gather by the lake to watch our annual fireworks display.
OLYMPIX (2ND SESSION)
Every summer, the Olympix spirit sweeps through camp when Frost Valley hosts our annual Olympix championship. Competing countries vary from year to year and are represented by groups of campers. The opening ceremony commences the night before with dances, skits, and songs representing the cultural traditions of each country. Team unity and pride are on full display, but it’s the spirit of Frost Valley that rises strong. Let the games begin!
CARNIVALLEY (3RD SESSION)
CarniValley is our Session 3 all-camp activity; the greatest carnival to ever take place at Frost Valley! At CarniValley, records will be set that will go down in camp history in our Frost Valley Book of World Records! The competition is always friendly and a wide range of carnival games will be enjoyed by all. Campers can earn tickets on behalf of their village. The village with the most tickets at the end will receive a special prize!
HIRDSTOCK (4TH SESSION)
Hirdstock, a camp-wide music festival inspired by the original Woodstock, takes place during the fourth session. Campers participate in arts and crafts, games, an air guitar competition, and other activities on Hirdstock Field. But the main attraction is always the music. Performances and musical acts by campers and counselors draw the positive vibes of all present.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHO SUPERVISES MY CHILD? Many of our summer staff members were campers who became CiTs and then counselors, so they know Frost Valley YMCA better than most. Others join us from around the world as international staff. Many return year after year, giving Frost Valley a family environment and a true sense of culture and tradition. Counselors undergo extensive training on our policies and procedures which stress health and safety first. In-depth background and criminal history checks are performed on all of our employees. We follow the American Camp Association standards by providing a 1 to 6 counselor to camper ratio. For younger campers, this ratio is often smaller. To ensure a welcoming and familiar community, roughly 70% of our staff return each summer.
WHAT IF MY CHILD WHERE WILL MY GETS SICK? CHILD SLEEP? The Guenther Family Wellness Center, located on camp, is staffed by registered nurses and emergency responders 24 hours a day. If your child gets sick, you will be notified immediately while your child receives the care they need. To learn more, email: nurse@frostvalley.org
WHAT WILL MY CHILD EAT? Three hot, wholesome meals are served daily. Our dining hall offers a vast array of options from the typical kid fare to organic, gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options. Care is taken to meet the dietary needs of all of our campers. Fresh fruit is available for snacking all day long. Chartwells Educational Dining Service creates the menus, ensuring that each meal is nutritionally balanced. Candy and soda are not served nor sold in the Camp Store.
The majority of our campers reside in cabins and lodges, with some specialty programs - East Valley Ranch, Farm, and Adventure Camps - staying in yurts and tents. These arrangements all promise the opportunity for friendships to flourish naturally and with ease, while under the close supervision of counselors and village coordinators. We honor one mutual bunk request per camper.
IS TRANSPORTATION AVAILABLE? We offer bus transportation to and from camp in these neighborhoods: Brooklyn NY, Montclair NJ, and Manhattan! The cost is $100.00 per camper, one way. For more information, please contact us at campregistration@frostvalley.org.
IS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE? Frost Valley YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign raises money for camperships to provide a Frost Valley experience for nearly 600 children each year who would not otherwise be able to join us. RENOWNED STAFF TRAINING! All Frost Valley camp staff, including returning staff, experience up to three weeks of rigorous training. Beyond camper health and safety, staff also receive training on child development, risk management, homesickness, and more. In addition to our wellness center staff, some of our camp staff are also First Aid and CPR certified. Our specialized activity instructors receive trainings on effective instruction, skill- and curriculum-development, and program risk management.

Supported by experienced staff and the encouragement of other campers, kidney campers do things they never thought possible. They conquer the Giant Swing, row boats across Lake Cole, scale the climbing tower, enjoy tasty s’mores, make new friends, laugh and be silly, and sleep beneath a canopy of stars.
