The Departure of St. John, Bishop of El-Borollos Who ‫نياحة القديس يوحنا اسقف الربلس جامع‬ Gathered the Biographies of the Saints (The Synaxarion). ‫السنكسار‬ 28th December - 19th Keiahk ‫ كيهك‬١٩ - ‫ ديسمرب‬٢٨ On this day St. John, Bishop of El-Borollos, departed. He ‫يف مثل هذا اليوم تنيح القديس يوحنا أسقف‬ came from a wealthy family and from priestly ancestors. ‫ وقد كان من ذوي الحسب والنسب ومن‬، ‫الربلس‬ His parents were charitable and gave generously to the poor.

When they died, St. John took the money they left and built ‫ وكان والداه يكرثان من الصدقة عيل‬، ‫نسل الكهنة‬ ‫ وملا توفيا اخذ القديس يوحنا ما تركاه‬،‫املساكني‬ a hostel for strangers. He gathered the sick, served them ‫ ثم جمع إليه املريض‬، ‫له وبني به فندقا للغرباء‬ himself, and offered them what they needed.

Once a monk visited him and saw his good deeds, he praised ‫وكان يخدمهم بنفسه ويقدم لهم كل ما يحتاجون‬ him and praised monasticism in his presence, showing him its ‫ واتفق مجيء أحد الرهبان إليه فرأي عمله‬، ‫إليه‬ honor. The saint was attracted to the monastic life and he had ‫ ثم مدح أمامه الرهبنة مبينا‬، ‫الحسن واثني عليه‬ a deep love in his heart for it. After the monk departed, the ‫و‬، ‫ فتعلق بها القديس ومال بقلبه إليها‬، ‫له رشفها‬ saint distributed his wealth among the poor and went into the ‫ قام القديس فوزع أمواله‬، ‫بعد إن رحل الراهب‬ wilderness of «Shiheet» (Scetis). He became a monk under ‫ وترهب‬، ‫ وذهب إىل برية شيهيت‬، ‫عيل املساكني‬ the guidance of St. Daniel the archpriest of the wilderness. ‫ واشتهر بحرارة‬، ‫عند القديس دانيال قمص الربية‬ St. John was known for his zeal for worship and for his great ‫ ثم انفرد يف مبني خاص‬، ‫العبادة والنسك الكثري‬ asceticism. He lived alone in a secluded building. Satan and his soldiers envied his good deeds, and they gathered against ‫فحسده الشيطان وجنوده عيل حسن صنيعه هذا‬ ‫ حتى‬، ‫ واجتمعوا عليه ورضبوه رضبا موجعا‬، him and painfully beat him. He was sick for so many days, ‫ بعدها شفاه السيد‬، ‫انه ظل مريضا أياما كثرية‬ after which the Lord Christ healed him. He regained his ‫ ثم دعي من هللا‬، ‫ فقوي وتغلب عليهم‬، ‫املسيح‬ strength and overcame the devil.

God then called him to become a bishop of Borollos. At this ‫ وكانت توجد يف‬، ‫إىل رتبة األسقفية عيل الربلس‬ time, there were some heresies and he made a great effort to ‫زمانه بعض البدع فاجتهد حتى اقتلعها وارجع‬ eradicate them, and converted the heretics to the Orthodox ‫ وظهر يف أيامه‬، ‫أصحابها إىل اإلميان املستقيم‬ Faith. Also in his time, a monk from upper Egypt claimed that ‫ كان يخرب بأمور مدعيا إن‬، ‫راهب من الصعيد‬ he could reveal certain things which were imparted to him by ‫ فاضل كثريين بخداعه‬، ‫املالك ميخائيل يكشفها له‬ the Archangel Michael, and he misled many by his deception.

St. John saw that the monk›s deeds were from the devil. He ‫ فرأي القديس إن عمل هذا الراهب من الشيطان‬، ‫ لذلك أمر برضبه حيث اعرتف بخطئه فطرده‬، commanded that the monk be beaten until he confessed his ‫ وادعي أخر إن حبقوق النبي يظهر له‬، ‫من البالد‬ sins and he drove him out of the country. Another claimed ‫ فطرده ايضا من‬، ‫ فتبعه كثريين‬، ‫ويعرفه األرسار‬ that Habakkuk, the prophet, appeared and revealed hidden things to him and, as a result, he was followed by many. St. ‫ كام ابطل استعامل كتب‬، ‫بالده بعد ما ابطل قوله‬ John drove him out of the country, after he had exposed his ، ‫كثرية رديئة‬ deception. He also put an end to the use of several bad books. ‫و كان هذا القديس كلام صعد إىل الهيكل ليقوم‬ Every time this saint went up to the sanctuary (Hekal) to serve ‫ إن يصطبغ وجهه وكل‬، ‫بخدمة القداس اإللهي‬ the divine liturgy, his face and all his body were flushed red, ‫ وكانت‬،‫جسده لونا احمرا كأنه خارج من أتون نار‬ as though he came out of a fiery furnace, and his tears poured ‫ ألنه كان ينظر‬، ‫دموعه تنحدر عيل خديه بغزارة‬ heavily on his cheeks, for he was beholding the heavenly ‫ وحدث يف ثالث‬، ‫الطغامت السامئية عيل املذبح‬ hosts on the altar. Three times when he placed his finger in the chalice to make the sign of the Cross during the fraction ‫مرات انه كلام وضع إصبعه يف الكأس للرشم وقت‬ ‫ وكان يف‬. ‫ يجد الكأس كنار تتقد‬، ‫صالة القسمة‬ prayer, he found that the cup was as hot as fire. ‫أيامه ايضا قوم مبتدعون يتناولون األرسار املقدسة‬ Furthermore, in his days, some infidels were partaking ‫ وإذ نهاهم ومل ينتهوا حرمهم‬، ‫وهم مفطرون‬ of the Holy Mysteries without having fasted. The saint rebuked them, but since they did not hearken to him, he ، ‫ وملا مل يطيعوا أمره‬، ‫ومنعهم من رشكة الكنيسة‬ excommunicated them and forbade them from the fellowship ، ‫سال الرب فنزلت نار من السامء أحرقت كبريهم‬ of the church. When they disobeyed his order, he entreated ‫ وملا‬،‫فخاف الباقون من ذلك ورجعوا عن بدعتهم‬ God, so fire came down from heaven, and the fire burned their ‫ أرسل‬، ‫أراد الرب إن يريحه من أتعاب هذا العامل‬ leader. Fear fell upon the rest and they repented. ‫إليه القديسني أنطونيوس ومقاريوس ليعرفاه بيوم‬ When the Lord wanted to repose him from the toil of this ،‫ فدعا شعبه وأوصاهم ثم تنيح بسالم‬، ‫انتقاله‬ world, He sent to him St. Antony and St. Macarius to tell . ‫صالته تكون معنا ولربنا املجد دامئا ابديا امني‬ him of the day of his departure. He called his people and ‫نياحة حجى النبى أحد األثنى عرش نبيا الصغار‬ commended them then departed in peace. ‫ كيهك‬٢٠ - ‫ ديسمرب‬٢٩ His prayers be with us and Glory be to our God forever. ‫ كان‬. ‫يف مثل هذا اليوم تنيح الصديق حجي النبي‬ Amen.

The Departure of the Upright Haggai the Prophet. ‫هذا البار من نسل هرون الكاهن من قبيلة الوي‬

29th December - 20th Keiahk ‫ وملا‬. ‫ وهو أحد االثني عرش نبيا الصغار‬.

On this day, the upright Haggai, the Prophet, departed. This ‫سبي نبوخذنرص امللك يهود أورشليم‬ righteous man was a descendant of Aaron, the priest, and from the ‫ كان والدا هذا النبي‬، ‫وأخذهم إىل بابل‬ tribe of Levi. He was one of the twelve minor prophets. When King . ‫ فرزقهام هللا به هناك‬، ‫من جملتهم‬ Nebuchadnezzar captured the Jews of Jerusalem and took them ‫وقد عاد إىل أورشليم صحبة زربابل‬ to Babylon, the parents of this prophet were among them, and he . ‫الوايل ابن شالتيئيل وسائر الشعب‬ was born in exile. This prophet returned to Jerusalem along with ‫وتنبأ يف السنة الثانية من ملك داريوس‬ Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah and the rest of the people of Israel. He prophesied in the second year of the reign ‫ للعامل‬3484 ‫ملك الفرس الذي ملك سنة‬ of Darius, King of Persia, who reigned in the year 3484 of the world ‫ أي بعد رجوع بني إرسائيل من سبي‬، and that was 15 years after the return of the people of Israel from the ‫ ووجه هذا‬. ‫بابل بخمس عرشة سنة‬ Babylonian exile. ‫النبي نبوته بأمر هللا إىل زربابل ثم‬ This prophet directed his prophecies by the command of God to ، ‫يهوشع بن يهو صادق الحرب العظيم‬ Zerubbabel, then to Joshua the son of Jehozidak, the high priest. ‫تحريضا لليهود عيل إمتام تجديد هيكل‬ He incited the Jews to complete the rebuilding of the temple of ‫ الذي كانوا قد ابتدئوا‬. ‫سليامن بن داود‬ Solomon, the son of David. They had started rebuilding the temple . ‫يف تشييده بعد رجوعهم من السبي‬ after they returned from captivity, then they abandoned it to build . ‫ثم انرصفوا عنه إىل إقامة بيوت لهم‬ their own homes. The prophet rebuked them saying, “Is it time for ‫فبكتهم النبي عيل سكناهم يف بيوت‬ you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses and this temple to ‫ وقال لهم إن‬.‫مزينة وبيت هللا خراب‬ be in ruins? Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Consider your ways! You have sown much, and bring in little; you eat, but do ‫مل يهتموا ببيت هللا ويبنوه كام ينبغي‬ ‫ ويقلل الربكة‬، ‫فان الرب يقطع أرزاقهم‬ not have enough; you drink, but you are not filled with drink; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages, ‫ فسمع أبرار الشعب قوله‬. ‫من تجارتهم‬ earns wages to put into a bag of holes.’” (Haggai 1:4-6) Those who ‫ وبنوا البيت كام‬، ‫وخافوا وعيد الرب‬ were upright amongst the people of Israel feared the threats of the ‫ وقد أعلن للشعب بعد الفراغ‬.‫ينبغي‬ Lord and built the house of the Lord as they were supposed to. ‫ وعاش‬. ‫من بنائه إن الرب قد رس بذلك‬ Haggai the prophet had announced to the people after they finished ‫ وسبق‬، ‫هذا النبي اكرث من سبعني سنة‬ building it, that the Lord was pleased by that.

This prophet lived more than 70 years, and he was 430 years before ‫مجيء السيد املسيح بأربع مئة ثالثون‬ the advent of our Lord Christ. He departed in peace and was buried ‫ وتنيح بسالم ودفن يف قرب الكهنة‬. ‫سنة‬ ‫ صالته تكون معنا ولربنا‬. ‫بأورشليم‬ in the tomb of the priests in Jerusalem. His prayers be with us and . ‫املجد دامئا ابديا امني‬ Glory be to our God forever. Amen.

The Martyrdom of St. Barnabas, One of the Seventy Apostles. ‫نياحة القديس برنابا أحد السبعني رسوال‬ 30th December - 21st Keiahk ‫ كيهك‬٢١ - ‫ ديسمرب‬٣٠ On this day also, St. Barnabas, one of the seventy apostles, was mar‫يف مثل هذا اليوم استشهد القديس‬ tyred. He was from the tribe of Levi. His ancestors left Judea long ‫برنابا أحد السبعني رسوال وهو من سبط‬ before he was born and moved to the island of Cyprus. His name ‫ وقد نزح مقدمو عائلته منذ‬، ‫الوي‬ was Joses. Our Lord, to Whom is the glory, gave him the name ‫ وأقاموا يف‬، ‫زمن بعيد من بالد اليهودية‬ “Barnabas”, which means son of “encouragement” or “consolation”, ‫ كان اسمه أوال يوسف‬، ‫جزيرة قربص‬ when He called him to become an apostle. He received the gift of ‫فدعاه رينا له املجد عند انتخابه رسوال‬ the Holy Spirit in the upper room with the disciples. He preached ‫باسم برنابا الذي يرتجم يف اإلنجيل بابن‬ the gospel with them and witnessed to the Name of Christ.

He had a field which he sold and brought the price and placed it at ‫ وقد نال نعمة الروح املعزي يف‬، ‫الوعظ‬ the feet of the apostles. (Acts 4:36-37) The apostles honored him for ‫ وبرش معهم‬، ‫علية صهيون مع التالميذ‬ his many virtues and for his honesty. ‫ وكان له حقل باعه‬، ‫وكرز باسم املسيح‬ When St. Paul believed in the Lord Christ, St. Barnabas presented ( ‫وأىت بثمنه ووضعه عند أرجل الرسل‬ him to the rest of the disciples in Jerusalem, three years after his ‫ الذين كانوا يجلونه‬، ) 37 – 36 : 4 ‫أع‬ conversion. St. Barnabas told the apostles how the Lord appeared ‫ وملا آمن‬، ‫لكرثة فضائله وحسن أمانته‬ to St. Paul near Damascus and attested to his zeal before them. The ‫ أحرضه‬، ‫الرسول بولس بالسيد املسيح‬ apostles accepted St. Paul in their fellowship. The Holy Spirit said ‫إيل الرسل يف أورشليم وحدثهم كيف‬ to the disciples, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the ‫وكيف‬ ‫ابرص الرب يف الطريق وانه كلمه‬ work to which I have called them.” (Acts 13:2) : 9 ‫جاهر يف دمشق باسم يسوع (أع‬ St. Paul and St. Barnabas travelled together to many countries preaching the Name of the Lord Christ. When they entered Lystra ‫) وشهد له أمامهم بغريته حتى قبلوه‬27 ‫ وبعد ثالث سنوات خرج‬، ‫يف رشكتهم‬ and St. Paul healed the man who was crippled from his mother’s womb (Acts 14:8-18), the people of Lystra thought that they were ‫برنابا إيل طرسوس ليطلب شاول وملا‬

gods, and they brought oxen and garlands to the gates in‫ وقال‬، ، )25 : 11 ‫وجده جاء به إيل إنطاكية (أع‬ tending to sacrifice them at the feet of the apostles. St. Paul ‫ « افرزوا يل برنابا وشاول‬: ‫الروح القدس للتالميذ‬ and St. Barnabas forbade them and rejected the glory of ‫ وقد‬.)2 : 13 ‫للعمل الذي دعوتهام إليه « (أع‬ men. They tore their clothes saying that they were men with ‫طاف الرسوالن بولس وبرنابا معا بالدا كثرية يكرزان‬ the same nature as they. ‫ وملا دخال لسرتة وأبرا الرسول بولس‬، ‫بالسيد املسيح‬ After they travelled together to many cities, they were separated from each other. St. Barnabas took with him St. Mark ‫ ظن أهلها انهام آلهة ة تقدموا ليك‬، ‫اإلنسان املقعد‬ ‫ بل مزقا ثيابهام‬، ‫ فلم يقبال مجد الناس‬،‫يذبحوا لهام‬ and went to Cyprus. They preached there and converted 8 : 14 ‫معرتفني بأنهام برش تحت اآلالم مثلهم (أع‬ many people to the faith of the Lord Christ and baptized ‫و بعد إن طاف مع بولس الرسول بالدا كثرية‬،)18 them. The Jews resented them. So they falsely accused ‫ فاخذ الرسول برنابا‬، ‫انفصل الرسوالن عن بعضهام‬ them before the governor. They seized St. Barnabas and brutally beat him, then they stoned him and finally burnt ‫ وبرشا فيها‬، ‫معه القديس مرقس ومضيا إيل قربص‬ his body with fire. Thus, his strife was completed and he ، ‫وردا كثريين من أهلها إيل اإلميان بالسيد املسيح‬ received the crown of martyrdom. After the people had left, ‫ فحنق اليهود وحرضوا عليهام الوايل‬، ‫ثم عمداهم‬ St. Mark came and carried the body, wrapped it, and placed ‫ فامسكوا الرسول برنابا ورضبوه رضبا‬، ‫واملشايخ‬ it in a cave in Cyprus. ‫ وبعد ذلك احرقوا جسده‬، ‫ ثم رجموه بالحجارة‬،‫أليام‬ St. Mark then went to Alexandria to preach there.

The prayers of these two apostles be with us and Glory be ‫ وبعد‬، ‫ فتم بذلك جهاده ونال إكليل الشهادة‬،‫بالنار‬ ‫انرصاف القوم تقدم القديس مرقس وحمل الجسد‬ to our God forever. Amen. ‫ أما‬،‫ ولفه بلفائف ووضعه يف مغارة خارج قربص‬، The Commemoration of the Archangel Gabriel. ، ‫مرقس الرسول فانه اتجه إيل اإلسكندرية ليكرز بها‬ 30th December - 22nd Keiahk This day marks the commemoration of the honorable arch- ‫ ولربنا املجد دامئا‬، ‫صالة هذين الرسولني تكون معنا‬ angel Gabriel, the announcer, the consecration of his church . ‫أبديا آمني‬ in Caesaria and the appearance of many miracles in it. ‫تذكار املالك الجليل غربيال املبرش‬ He was the angel who was sent to the Virgin Mary to an‫ كيهك‬٢٢ - ‫ديسمرب‬٣١ ‫ديسمرب‬٣١ nounce her with the glorious birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. ، ‫يف هذا اليوم تذكار رئيس املالئكة غربيال املبرش‬ He came to her and said, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the ‫وتكريس كنيسته يف مدينة قيسارية وظهور العجائب‬ Lord is with you.” (Luke 1:28) He also announced the birth ‫ هذا املالك هو الذي أرسل إىل العذراء بالبشارة‬. ‫بها‬ of John the Baptist to Zacharias. (Luke 1: 11-22) ‫ وملا آيت إليها قال لها « السالم لك أيتها‬، ‫الكرمية‬ As much as this announcement has of great joy and glad‫املمتلئة نعمة الرب معك» وهو الذي برش زكريا‬ ness, we should also rejoice in his feast and pray intently with supplications, asking for his intercession before God, ‫ فبمقدار ما لهذه البرشي من‬.‫بوالدة يوحنا املعمدان‬ to preserve us from being ensnared by the devil and to grant ‫فرح ورسور كذلك يجب علينا إن نجتمع يف عيده‬ us salvation from our sins. The intercession of this honored ‫ متوسلني إليه إن يشفع فينا أمام هللا‬، ‫بنية صالحة‬ angel be with us. Amen. ‫ وينعم علينا بالخالص‬. ‫ليحفظنا من فخاخ الشيطان‬ The Departure of David, the Prophet and King. ‫ شفاعة هذا املالك الجليل تكون معنا‬. ‫من خطايانا‬ 1st January - 23rd Keiahk . ‫ امني‬.

On this day, of the year 2990 of the world, the great King ‫نياحة داود النبى وامللك‬ and the saintly honored prophet David, the son of Jesse, ‫ كيهك‬٢٣ - ‫ يناير‬١ departed. ‫ للعامل تنيح امللك‬2990 ‫يف مثل هذا اليوم من سنة‬ He was the second king over the children of Israel and the ‫ وهو‬، ‫العظيم النبي القديس الكريم داود بن يىس‬ first among their kings to walk in virtue and in justice. He ‫ وأول من سار السرية‬، ‫ثاين ملك عيل بني إرسائيل‬ was from the tribe of Judah from Bethlehem. God chose ‫ وكان من سبط‬، ‫الفاضلة العادلة الكاملة من ملوكهم‬ him to be a king over Israel, when Saul, the son of Kish, disobeyed the commandment of God. ‫ فأنتخبه هللا ملكا عيل بني‬، ‫يهوذا من بيت لحم‬ God commanded the Prophet Samuel to anoint for Him one ‫ فأمر‬، ‫إرسائيل عندما خالف شاول بن قيس آمر هللا‬ of the children of Jesse, a king over Israel. Samuel chose ‫هللا صموئيل النبي إن ميسح له واحدا من أوالد يىس‬ the eldest son who had a good appearance and was tall in ، ‫ الحسن الوجه‬، ‫ فاختار صموئيل االبن األكرب‬، ‫ملكا‬ stature, but God rejected him and said to Samuel, “Do not ‫ غري إن هللا مل يقبله وقال لصموئيل‬، ‫القوي الجسم‬ look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I ، ‫« ال تنظر إىل منظره وطول قامته ألين قد رفضته‬ have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; ‫إىل‬ ‫ الن اإلنسان ينظر‬، ‫ألنه ليس كام ينظر اإلنسان‬ for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord 16 ‫صم‬1 ( « ‫العينني وأما الرب فانه ينظر إىل القلب‬ looks at the heart.” (I Samuel 16:7) ‫ ) فعرض يىس أوالده أمام صموئيل فاختار داود‬7 : Jesse called all his sons and showed them to Samuel and he chose David and anointed him king. God was with him ‫ ولطهارة‬، ‫ وكان هللا معه يف كل أموره‬، ‫ومسحه ملكا‬ in all his ways, for his purity of heart and his meekness. ‫قلبه ووداعته تغلب عيل شاول امللك الذي حاول‬

He overcame Saul who wanted to kill him on several occasions. ‫ ومن ذلك إن شاول خرج مرة‬، ‫قتله مرارا‬ Once Saul went out to kill David and he went into a cave to at‫ فجاء داود‬،‫طالبا قتله فأدركه املساء ونام‬ tend to his needs. (I Samuel 24:14) God praised him by saying, “I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, ‫كل ذلك كان يدعو ذاته كلبا ميتا وبرغوثا‬ ‫ وقد مدحه‬، ‫ ) وغري ذلك‬14 : 24 ‫صم‬1 ( who will do all My will.” (Acts 13:22; Psalms 89:20; 1 Samuel ‫هللا بقوله « وجدت داود بن يىس رجال‬ 13:14) God protected Jerusalem for his sake during his lifetime and after his death, and He made the kings of the people of Israel ‫ وحرس‬، ) 22 : 13 ‫صم‬1 ( « ‫حسب قلبي‬ from his seed, and He called Himself “his Son.” He prophesied in ‫هللا أورشليم من اجله يف حياته وبعد مامته‬ the Book of Psalms, which is a book full of useful teachings and ‫ ودعا ذاته‬، ‫وجعل ملوك الشعب من نسله‬ good instructions. David’s might and power were supported by ‫ وهو‬، ‫ وتنبأ بسفر املزامري املنسوب له‬، ‫ابنه‬ God. When he was young and guarding his father’s sheep, once a ‫سفر مملوء من كل قول حسن وتعليم‬ bear and another time a lion attacked his sheep and David killed ‫ وكان داود يف قوته ذا باس مؤيدا‬، ‫مفيد‬ both the bear and the lion. ‫ وذلك انه ملا كان صبيا صغريا يرعى‬، ‫من هللا‬ When the army of Israel faced the army of the Philistines and ‫غنم أبيه هجم عليه تارة ذئب وتارة أسد‬ Goliath, the champion of the Philistines, whose height was six ‫ فقتل الذئب وفسخ فيك‬، ‫ليفرتسا الغنم‬ cubits and a span, and who was armored with a bronze helmet on his head and a coat weighing five thousand shekels of bronze, and ‫ وحدث ملا تقابل جيش شاول بجيش‬، ‫األسد‬ he had bronze grieves on his legs and a bronze javelin between ‫ وخرج جليات الجبار الذي‬، ‫الفلسطينيني‬ his shoulders and the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam ‫ وهو متسلح‬، ‫كان طوله ستة اذرع وشرب‬ and his iron spearhead weighed six hundred shekels; Goliath went ‫ وبيده رمح يف سمك نول النساج‬، ‫بالحديد‬ out, stood up and cried out to the armies of Israel, “I defy the ‫ ومكث يجول‬، ‫ وسنان رمحه ستامئة شاقل‬، armies of Israel this day; give us a man that we may fight togeth- ‫ ويفتخر عيل بني‬، ‫بني عسكر الفلسطينيني‬ er.” The Philistine presented himself for forty days, morning and ‫ ومل يجرس أحد‬، ‫إرسائيل مدة أربعني يوما‬ evening. All of Israel heard these words and were dismayed and ‫ وكان داود قد‬، ‫من العساكر إن يبارزه‬ greatly afraid. ‫ فلام رآه وسمع كالمه‬، ‫جاء ليفتقد اخوته‬ When David came to visit his brothers and brought provisions ‫غار غرية إلهية وتقدم إليه وبيده مقالعه‬ to their camp, he saw and heard Goliath. David was moved with divine zeal and said to him, “You come to me with a sword, with ‫ فضحك منه جليات وافرتي‬، ‫وخمسة حجارة‬ a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the Name of the ‫عيل هللا فأجابه داود قائال « أنت تأىت إليك‬ Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have ‫ وانا أىت إليك باسم رب‬، ‫بسيف ورمح‬ defied.” David took out a stone and he slung it and he struck the ‫ اله صفوف إرسائيل الذين عريتهم‬، ‫الجنود‬ Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank in his forehead ‫« ثم وضع داود الحجر يف املقالع ورضب‬ and he fell on his face to the ground. David ran and stood over the ‫ فارتز الحجر يف جبهته وسقط‬، ‫به جليات‬ Philistine, took his sword and cut off his head and removed the ‫ فجرد سيفه وقطع‬، ‫عيل وجهه إىل األرض‬ reproach of Israel. (I Samuel 17) ( ‫ وأزال العار عن بني إرسائيل‬، ‫به رأسه‬ David lived 70 years, 30 years of which were before he became a king. Do you choose your words carefully?? Are you the type who ‫ كم‬.. ‫ كم من مشاكل‬.. ‫جدا ويسبب مشاكل‬ ‫من خصام ومتاعب نشأت من أحاديث لم‬ exaggerate in his talk? Do you know that the same ‫ ولم‬.. ‫يراع أصحابها فيها الدقة فى كالمهم‬ topic can be delivered in 2 different ways?? One .. ‫يحترسوا فى أختيا ر ألفاظهم وعباراتهم‬ way is peaceful and gives comfort and joy and the other is troublesome and can cause problems … how ‫هل تعلم أحيانا أن الصمت أفضل من الكالم‬ many problems … how many arguments started with ‫الذى يزرع الخصام ؟ هل تعلم أيضا كلمة‬ talks which it’s owners didn’t deliver it in a precise ‫ال أعرف أفضل أن من االفصاح بمعلومات‬ and accurate way … were not careful in choosing .. ‫مشوهة ونا قصة أو غير متأكد منها‬ their words … do you know; some time silence is ‫فى‬ ‫هل تعرف أنه من الحكة أن ال تدخل‬ better than speech which creates disagreements? Do ‫مقصودا‬ ‫موضوعا ال يخصك ولو كان غير‬ you know; the word “I don’t know” is better than ‫من‬ ‫يتعبون‬ ‫؟؟ هل تدرك أن هنا كثيرون‬ delivering wrong and inaccurate news or unsure of ‫كلمات ربما تظن أنها ال تتعب أحداً ؟ أن‬ it … do you know; it is wise not to be engaged in an argument which does not concern you, even if it was ‫ ومن‬.. ‫كالم السالم يحتاج الى حكمة وأفراز‬ ‫أفضل عالمات الحكمة واالفراز الصمت‬ un-intended?? Do you many can be troubled with words you might think does not trouble anyone?? Coptic Hope Charity Christmas Hamper Appeal – 2022 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men.” Luke 2:14 Beloved congregation of the Diocese of Melbourne and Affiliated Regions, As we approach the festive and holy season of Christmas and the Feast of the Glorious Nativity, Coptic Hope Charity is pleased to announce the Christmas Hamper Appeal 2022.

With the love and generosity of the Coptic Orthodox congregation, Coptic Hope Charity Christmas Hamper Appeal supports our less fortunate brothers and sisters across the poorest villages and provinces throughout Egypt.

Coptic Hope Charity confirms that all donations collected for the Christmas Hamper Appeal is to provide hampers to be distributed amongst as many families as possible, including the 695 families in our Family to Family program.

Your gift of $50 for each Christmas Hamper will provide; Meat, rice, flour, butter, milk, and sugar etc to make celebrating Christmas a special time for our less fortunate brothers and sisters.
