The Feast of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ ‫عيد الميالد الجديد‬ (Christmas). ‫ كيهك‬٢٩ - ‫ يناير‬٧ 7th January - 29th Keiahk ‫ للعالم‬551 ‫في مثل هذا اليوم من سنة‬ On this day, of the year 551 of the world, as calculated ‫ نعيد بميالد‬، ‫بحساب كنيستنا المجيدة‬ by our glorious church, we celebrate the birth of Our ‫ربنا يسوع المسيح المتأنس بالجسد‬ Lord Jesus Christ, the Incarnate God in the Flesh from the virgin St. Mary. Through the Divine plan of God and ، ‫من العذراء البتول القديسة مريم‬ ‫وذلك إن اإلرادة اإللهية سبق فرسمت‬ His foreknowledge, Caesar Augustus issued a decree for a general census in all the Roman Empire. For that ‫إن يصدر اوغسطس قيصر أمره بان‬ ‫ ولهذا السبب‬، ‫تكتتب كل المسكونة‬ reason, Joseph rose, and the virgin with him, and went from the city of Nazareth to «Bethlehem» to be counted ‫قام يوسف من الناصرة ومعه العذراء‬ in the census there because he was from the tribe of ‫إلى بيت لحم ليكتتبا هناك ألنه من‬ Judah, from the house of David. Bethlehem was the city ‫ وبيت‬، ‫سبط يهوذا ومن بيت داود‬ of David. When they arrived in Bethlehem, the Virgin ‫ وحدث انهما لما‬، ‫لحم هي قرية داود‬ gave birth to her first born child and she wrapped him in ‫وصال إلى هناك تمت أيامها فولدت‬ swaddling clothes and put him in a manger, for they did ‫ ولفته ووضعته في مذود‬، ‫ابنها البكر‬ not have a place for them in the inn. ، ‫حيث لم يجدا موضعا ينزالن به‬ Now there were, in the same country, shepherds living ‫متبدين‬ ‫وكان في تلك الكورة رعاة‬ out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and ، ‫يحرسون حراسة الليل علي رعيتهم‬ the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were ‫فظهر لهم مالك الرب واشرق عليهم‬ ‫ وقال لهم المالك‬، ‫نور من السماء‬ greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, «Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy ‫« ال تخافوا فها انا أبشركم بفرح‬ which will be to all the people. For there is born to you ‫ انه ولد‬، ‫عظيم يكون لجميع الشعب‬ this day in the city of David, a Savior, Who is Christ the ‫لكم اليوم في مدينة داود مخلص هو‬ Lord. And this will be the sign to you: you will find a ‫ وهذه لكم العالمة‬، ‫المسيح الرب‬ Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger.» ‫تجدون طفال مقمطا مضجعا في مذود‬ Suddenly there was, with the angel, a multitude of the ‫ وظهر بغتة مع المالك جمهور من‬، heavenly host praising God and saying: ‫الجند السماوي يسبحون هللا قائلين‬ «Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good ‫األرض‬ ‫«المجد هلل في األعالي وعلي‬ will toward men.» .»‫السالم وفي الناس المسرة‬ So it was, when the angels had gone away from them ‫و لما مضت عنهم المالئكة إلى‬ into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, «Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come ‫السماء قال الرعاة بعضهم لبعض‬ to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.» And ‫« لنذهب اآلن إلى بيت لحم لننظر‬ they came with haste and found the Babe, Mary, Joseph, ‫الكالم الذي أعلمنا به الرب فجاءوا‬ and Salomi. The place was shining with light. Now ‫ ووجدوا الطفل ومريم‬، ‫مسرعين‬ when they had seen him, they made widely known the ‫المكان‬ ‫ وكان‬، ‫ويوسف وسالومي‬ saying which was told them concerning this child. Then ‫الذي‬ ‫الكالم‬ ‫ فعلموا إن‬، ‫مضيئا بالنور‬ they worshipped the child and they returned, glorifying ‫للطفل‬ ‫سجدوا‬ ‫ ثم‬، ‫بشروا به هو حق‬ and praising God for all that they had heard and seen. ‫وعادوا وهم يسبحون هللا ويمجدونه‬ (Luke 2:1-20) ‫ وكانوا‬، ‫علي كل ما سمعوه ورأوه‬ On this day, the prophecies about the birth of the Lord ‫ ففي‬،‫يبشرون بما عاينوا وسمعوا‬ from a chaste virgin had been fulfilled. Isaiah the prophet said, «Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear ‫هذا اليوم كملت نبوات األنبياء عن‬ a Son and shall call His Name Immanuel.» (Isaiah 7:14) ‫ فقد قال‬، ‫مولد الرب من بتول عذراء‬ Ezekiel the prophet also said about this wonderful ‫اشعياء النبي « ها العذراء تحبل وتلد‬ mystery, «And the Lord said to me, ‹This gate shall ‫ابنا وتدعو اسمه عمانوئيل « ويقول‬ be shut; it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter ‫حزقيال عن هذا السر العجيب « فقال‬ by it, because the Lord God of Israel has entered by it, ‫لي الرب هذا الباب يكون مغلقا ال‬ therefore it shall be shut.»› (Ezekiel 44:2) ‫يفتح وال يدخل منه إنسان الن الرب‬ About this child, Daniel the prophet said, «I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the « ‫اله إسرائيل دخل منه فيكون مغلقا‬ ‫ وعن هذا المولود قال دانيال النبي‬، Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven! He ‫« كنت أرى في رؤي الليل وإذا مع‬ came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion ‫سحب السماء مثل ابن إنسان أتي‬

and glory and the Kingdom that all peoples, nations, ‫وجاء إلى القديم األيام فقربوه قدامه‬ and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an ‫ فأعطي سلطانا ومجدا وملكوتا‬، everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and ‫لتتعبد له كل الشعوب واألمم واأللسنة‬ His Kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.» ‫ سلطانه سلطان ابدي ما لم يزول‬، (Daniel 7:13-14) ‫ارميا‬ ‫ وقال‬، « ‫وملكوته ما ال ينقرض‬ Jeremiah the prophet said, «Behold, the days are ‫وأقيم‬ ‫النبي « ها ايام تأتى يقول الرب‬ coming, says the Lord, that I will raise to David a ‫لداود غصن بر فيملك ملك وينجح‬ Branch of Righteousness; a King shall reign and ‫ في‬، ‫ويجري حقا وعدال في األرض‬ prosper, and execute judgement and righteousness in ‫أيامه يخلص يهوذا ويسكن إسرائيل‬ the earth. In His days, Judah will be saved and Israel ‫ وهذا هو اسمه الذي يدعونه به‬، ‫آمنا‬ will dwell safely; Now this is His Name by which He will be called: The Lord Our Righteousness.» .»‫الرب برنا‬ (Jeremiah 23:5-6) We must therefore now direct our ‫فيجب علينا اآلن إن نتوجه بعقولنا‬ minds toward the manger of Bethlehem, where the Son ‫ الذي كان ابن‬، ‫نحو مذود بيت لحم‬ of God was lying in it in the flesh at the time of His ‫هللا مضجعا فيه بالجسد وقت والدته‬ birth, contemplating in silence and reverence worthy of ‫ متأملين بصمت وهدوء الئقين في‬، the mystery of the incarnation of God, and His birth in ‫سر تجسد اإلله ووالدته في مذود‬ a manger for our salvation. The priest entered the church and put on the service clothes and administered ‫ ونظر مرة أحد القسوس ـ وكان سيئ‬، ‫ واألرواح‬، ‫السمعة ـ أتيا إلى الكنيسة‬ the liturgy and gave the Holy Communion to the ‫ فلما وصل هذا‬، ‫الشريرة محيطة به‬ people. After he was finished, he took off the service ‫ خرج مالك‬، ‫القس إلى باب الكنيسة‬ clothes and went out of the church, the evil spirits returned to him. This was what St. John said to his ‫الرب من الهيكل وبيده سيف من نار‬ brethren the monks, to make them aware that there ‫ فدخل‬، ‫ وطرد عنه األرواح النجسة‬، was no difference between a sinful and an unsinful ‫ وخدم‬، ‫القس ولبس الحلة الكهنوتية‬ priest in ministering the church sacraments. They also set up false witnesses who ‫رئيس‬ ‫اسطفانوس‬ ‫القديس‬ ‫استشهاد‬ said, “This man does not cease to speak blasphemous ‫الشمامسة‬ words against this holy place and the law; for we ‫ طوبة‬١ - ‫ يناير‬٩ have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs which ‫في مثل هذا اليوم استشهد القديس‬

(Acts 6:13) ‫عنه لوقا في سفر أعمال الرسل‬ Then the high priest said, “Are these things so?” St. Stephen ‫بقوله « وأما استفانوس فإذ‬ answered with convincing words and told them the history ‫كان‬ ‫كان مملوءا إيمانا وقوة‬ from Abraham to Moses. The coming out of Abraham from ‫عظيمة‬ ‫يصنع عجائب وآيات‬ Haran, the birth and the circumcision of Isaac, Jacob and his ‫في الشعب « فحسده اليهود‬ sons and their selling of Joseph, and how Joseph revealed ‫واختطفوه وأتوا به إلى مجمعهم‬ himself to his brothers. St. Stephen continued to narrate ‫« وأقاموا شهودا كذبة يقولون‬ to them all the events until the building of the temple. He ‫بان هذا الرجال ال يفتر عن‬ concluded by saying, “You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as ‫أن يتكلم كالما تجديفا ضد‬ your fathers did, so do you. Which of the prophets did your . ‫الموضع المقدس والناموس‬ fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the ‫ألننا سمعناه يقول إن يسوع‬ coming of the Just One, of Whom you now have become the ‫الناصري هذا سينقض هذا‬ betrayers and murderers; who have received the law by the ‫التي‬ ‫الموضع ويغير العوائد‬ direction of angels and have not kept it.” (Acts 7:51-53) ‫فشخص‬ . ‫سلمنا إياها موسى‬ When they heard these things they were cut to their hearts, ‫المجمع‬ ‫في‬ ‫إليه جميع الجالسين‬ and they gnashed at him with their teeth. (Acts 7:51‫ يا قساة الرقاب وغير‬: ‫بقوله‬ 60) Devout men carried St. Stephen to his burial and made ‫المختزنين بالقلوب األذان انتم‬ great lamentation over him. ‫دائما تقاومون الروح القدس‬ His prayers be with us. Amen. The Departure of St. John the Evangelist and Theologian. . ‫ كما كان آباؤكم كذلك انتم‬. 12th January - 4th Toba ‫أي األنبياء لم يضطهده آباؤكم‬ On this day, in the year 100 A.D., St. John, the virgin, ‫وقد قتلوا الذين سبقوا فأنبوا‬ the evangelist, and apostle who was the son of Zebedee, ‫بمجيء البار الذي انتم أالن‬ departed. St. John Chrysostom (of the Golden Mouth) said ‫صرتم مسلميه وقاتليه ممتلئ‬ that St. John the Evangelist was originally a disciple of St. ‫من الروح القدس فرأي مجد‬ John the Baptist. He was the brother of St. James the Elder, ‫هللا‬ ‫هللا ويسوع قائما عن يمين‬ who was killed by Herod by the sword. The Lord called him ‫ فقال ها أنا انظر السموات‬. with his brother “Boanerges” (Mark 3:17), that is “sons of thunder,” for their strong zeal and great faith. He was also the ‫مفتوحة وابن اإلنسان قائما عن‬ ‫ فصاحوا بصوت‬. ‫يمين هللا‬ disciple whom Jesus loved. The lot fell on him to go to Asia. The people of this area were ‫عظيم وسدوا آذانهم عليه بنفس‬ stiff-necked, so he prayed to Christ to be with him. He went ‫ وأخرجوه خارج‬. ‫واحدة‬ to Ephesus, accompanied by his disciple Prochorus. They ‫المدينة ورجموه وهو يدعو‬ embarked on a ship, but the ship was wrecked on the way ‫ويقول أيها الرب يسوع اقبل‬ and every one of the passengers clung to a plank of the ship’s ‫روحي ثم حثي علي ركبتيه‬ wood. The waves washed out Prochorus to an island, but St. John remained among the waves of the sea for several days, ‫وصرخ بصوت عظيم يا رب‬ ‫ال تقم لهم هذه وإذ قال هذا‬ until the waves carried him, by the will of God, to the same ‫رقد» وحمل جسده بعض‬ island where his disciple Prochorus was. When they met together, they offered thanks to God for taking care of them. ‫المؤمنين وأقاموا عليه مناحة‬ ‫ صالته تكون‬. ‫عظيمة ثم دفنوه‬ From there, St. John went to the city of Ephesus where he preached the word of salvation. Its people did not accept .‫معنا آمين‬

his message at first, until a day when an only child fell in the furnace of a public bath managed by the child’s mother. They took him in haste out of the fire, but he was dead and his mother wept bitterly. At this time, St. John went to the child, prayed fervently to God, made the sign of the Cross over him, breathed in the child’s face, and life came back to him right away. His mother rejoiced and she kissed the feet of the Apostle and tears of joy were in her eyes. From this time on, the people of the city came to hear his teachings and many of them believed and were baptized by St. John. This made the priests of the idols resent him and they tried to kill him several times but they could not, for the Lord protects all His chosen ones. After a great effort and many hardships, St. John led them to the knowledge of God and ordained bishops and priests for them. From there, he went to other places in Asia (Minor) and converted many of its people to the Faith of Christ. This saint lived 90 years, and they used to carry him to the gatherings of the believers. Because of his old age, he only gave them very short sermons saying, “My children, love one another.” He wrote the gospel known after him, and the Book of Revelation which he had seen on the island of Patmos, which is full of divine mysteries. He also wrote the three epistles known by his name. He was with the Lord Jesus Christ at the Transfiguration. He leaned (reclined) on the chest of our Lord at the Last Supper. He asked the Lord, “Who is he that shall betray you?” He was standing near the Cross with the Virgin St. Mary and the Lord said to his mother, “Behold your Son,” and to John, “Behold your mother.” He was the disciple about whom Peter asked the Lord, “And this one, what of him?” The Lord said to Peter, “If it be that I wish him to be here until I come, what is that to you?” When St. John felt that he was about to depart from this world, he summoned the people and administered to them the Body and the Blood of the Lord. He preached and commanded them to be steadfast in their faith. He then departed from the City of Ephesus for a short distance. He commanded his disciple and others with him to dig there a pit for him. He went down in it, raised his hands and prayed and then bade them farewell. He commanded them to return to the city and to confirm the brethren in the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ, and said to them, “I am innocent of your blood, for I did not leave any command of God that I haven’t taught you, and now, let it be known that you will never see my face again, and God will reward everyone according to his deeds.” When he said that, they kissed his hand and his feet, and they left him and returned to the city. When the people knew what had happened, they went out to where the saint was, and they found that he had departed. They wept and were deeply sad. They talked about his miracles and marvelled about his meekness. In spite of the fact that he did not die by the sword, as the rest of the apostles did, he was equal to them in the heavenly glories, for his virginity and his holiness. His prayers be with us and Glory be to our God forever. Amen. ‫ص‬٩ ‫ص‬ ٩ - ٧ ‫ قداس برمون الميالد الخميس‬Nativity Baramon Liturgy: Thursday 7-9am

And He united in our body ‫الالهوت جسدا طاهرا بال خطة ولنتحد‬ by His immortal divine nature, and then this body ‫نحن بهذا الجسد الطاهر لنرتفع معه على‬ dies for us. And again, how is earth united with ‫الصليب ولنموت معه ولنخلق من جديد فيه‬ the Divinity? How do people see God and unite to ... ‫وبدأ الرب يقرب هذا المعنى للبشر‬ Him? ... ‫ظهر الرب انسانا إلبراهيم وجها لوجه‬ Deity cannot tolerate sin. And ‫«أنى سأسكن فيهم وأسير بينهم وأكون لهم ألها وهم‬ we have risen with Him a new creation ١٦ :٦ ‫كورنثوس‬٢ »‫يكونون لي شعبا‬ ready to return to heaven. But this time we have a new eternal covenant; it is the guarantee of salvation. And if we sin and fall because of our weakness, His generous blood shed for us cleanses us from every sin when we offer sincere repentance, prayers and tears before Him. O Beloved, O new creation in the Lord Christ, let us rejoice in the birth of the Lord. Through His birth, mankind was born again. Satan was defeated forever. We got out of his grip and power. Be careful not to break the heart of God, Who loves you very much, with your sins. Behold, you have seen what one sin has done to all mankind. And behold, God’s love has given us an endless source of salvation, all what is required of you is to regret, repent with all your heart, and confess your sins. Hence, the Lord will say to those pure repentant: “I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” 2 Corinthians 6:16

In The Name of The Father Son and Holy Spirit The One God Amen. Feast of Nativity 7TH January 2022AD – 29TH - Kiahk 1738AM Dear Beloved Congregation of the Diocese of Melbourne and Affiliated Regions. We greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ who took flesh to work a great salvation for mankind and reconciled the heavenly with the earthly, paving the way to eternity for we temporal beings. Our Lord Jesus Christ was born of the holy Virgin St Mary on that faithful night into a desperate world. God’s chosen race and first born, Israel, squandered their birthright and now found themselves under Roman rule. God was faithful in His promise to them and delivered them from the hands of Pharaoh into a land flowing with milk and honey. He gave them grace to dispossess peoples greater, mightier, and more numerous than them, to establish land and plenty for all the tribes of Israel. Unfaithfulness to the covenant saw them carried away in captivity in foreign lands. God’s faithfulness redeemed them and brought them back home. Israel’s faithlessness saw them fall in captivity yet again and again. Even the Temple where God dwelt, became a den of thieves. Those entrusted with guiding the nation, shut up heaven with traditions of man and neither entered nor allowed others to enter. Such was the state of the world at the time when our gracious Lord entered human history as the Incarnate Son of God. A world broken by war and terror, a world where injustice was order, a world where the rich became richer at the expense of the poor, a world where hunger, disease, poverty, sin, and unfaithfulness were tolerated. This was the state of the world in which Jesus Christ came to proclaim deliverance and redemption. The angels sang praises at His birth and proclaimed, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people” (Luke 2:10). Good tidings of the mercy of God. Good tidings that humanity was yearning to hear and recognised by the faithful remanent and the little children recognised and sang Hosanna to the Son of David. We are in need to hear these glad tidings again and on a daily basis. As we celebrate and remember the coming of our Lord; we do so in a world that is equally desperate, in need of deliverance and redemption. Disease, poverty, and injustice still hamper the poor and defenceless. Divisions, whether political, social, religious, or cultural continue to alienate and dispossess people. Unfaithfulness rules, acquitting the guilty and condemning the just. Despite all this, the voice of the angels and the glad tidings they proclaim can be heard throughout the ages to our time. Our Lord still calls out “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew11:28-29). The Lord is willing again to enter our broken world and lift it from the quagmire of despair, shining His light of righteousness in the midst of the darkness brought about by man’s sinfulness. The message of the Feast of Nativity holds true, and the voice of the prophecy reigns in our heart “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). The glad tidings that God is with us, and He is for us, and He will lift a horn of salvation for all who call upon His Holy Name. We receive this Feast of the Virginal Birth, with a strong hope of deliverance, assured that the Lord rules. Our King of kings and Lord of lords is among us, present in His church and speaking in the hearts of His people, endowing them with the grace of the Holy Spirit to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. The Lord is at hand, and we await the Lord. Knowing that His justice will prevail over whatever evil this world tolerates or whatever sin this world mislabels as righteous. We trust that the Lord heals, the Lord saves, and the Lord will lift us up. We can face whatever challenge

is before us because the Lord lives. The glad tidings gladden our hearts daily and heal our infirmities. We find reconciliation with God in heaven and our fellow man on earth by the saving work of our good saviour. We thank the Lord who has delivered us thus far and will continue to deliver us from whatever tribulation comes our way. Our hope is in Christ Jesus and the glad tidings is our assurance of redemption. We give thanks to God for the life and standing of our Patriarch and lord Archbishop our Pope Abba Tawadros II, may the Lord keep him for us for may peaceful years and set him firm upon his throne. We in the Diocese of Melbourne and Affiliated Regions are particularly thankful to His Holiness for His Holiness’ care and fatherly concern over us. We pray for a Holy Feast of Nativity to all parts of our Diocese and trust that the glad tidings of great joy will be forever heard in our midst and hearts.
