Thursday 15 July 2021 ONLINE LESSONS FOR FOUNDATION TO YEAR 12

Dear Parents and Carers, Over the past week, the number of Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Australia has escalated, which is justifiably triggering increased concerns across our College community. Following the directions of the Victorian Government, we are going into a snap lockdown from 11.59 pm tonight (Thursday 15 July) until, and including, Tuesday 20 July 2021. At SMCOC, we have been committed, since the outbreak of COVID-19, to keep our students and staff safe. In addition, one of our key priorities is to ensure minimal disruption to teaching and delivery of lessons throughout the rapidly changing landscape caused by COVID-19. Students of SMCOC will move to remote and flexible learning and care from Friday 16 July 2021 to Tuesday 20 July June 2021. For students from Year 5 – Year 12 • Daily timetable will run as per normal scheduled times. • Teachers and students have access to Zoom Education and can log in from anywhere. • Teachers will deliver their lessons as virtual classrooms via Zoom Education. • Teachers have live monitoring, which allows real time tracking of students’ progress. • Teachers have instant messaging, which enables them to provide immediate feedback and support. • Any Recorded lessons or resources will be uploaded on SEQTA. • Detailed daily lesson plans and resources will be uploaded on SEQTA. • Teachers and students will communicate daily via SEQTA Forums and Direct Messages. For students from Foundation – Year 4 • Class teachers will contact students and parents/carers via SEQTA messages to organise for the day and for the zoom sessions.

This means that from the start of Friday 16 July 2021, all students who can learn from home must learn at home. We will, however, continue to provide on-site supervision and support programs for vulnerable students according to the following operating model. ● children whose parents are permitted workers, ● children in out of home care or known to protective services and ● children with a disability, who also fit one of the above two categories. If you are BOTH permitted workers, who do not work from home, please contact Reception on (03) 9301 0999 to discuss your need for supervision. We will require new, updated letters from your employers (BOTH parents) stating you are a permitted worker and are unable to work from home – hours and times of work. This may be followed up by a call to your employer. The College would like to know if your child/children will be attending school from Friday 16 July 2021. We need to know: • The Name/s of student/s (Full Name). • Year Level/s. • The days of the week your child/children will attend the College. • If you require the Bus to pick up and drop off your child/children. Please note that if your child/children comes to school without letting us know first, the College will call you to come and pick up your child/children because we will not be able to provide the staff required instantly. We would need adequate notice first. Students, attending onsite, will continue remote and flexible learning, while being supervised by staff. Classes could be a mixture of year levels. It likely will not be the regular teacher taking their scheduled lesson. Staff are supervising students only. Therefore, students still need their laptops or iPads to follow the remote lessons because they will be learning remotely, just like everyone else. We are noting that there will be no canteen open. Wellbeing Support Mrs. Rouge (Psychologist) r.maccar@stmarys.vic.edu.au and Mrs. Silvia (Counsellor) s.saad@stmarys.vic.edu.au are available to be contacted via email or via SEQTA messages to provide support. Support for Parents and Carers Miss Marian Escaross can be contacted on 0452 474 089 or via email: m.escaross@stmarys.vic.edu.au or via SEQTA messages to provide support on how to log on and how to use SEQTA Engage. A tutorial on how to log on and use SEQTA Engage will be uploaded on SEQTA and SMCOC’s social platforms.

The Leadership Team meets daily to assess the situation as it unfolds and we will continue to put the needs of our students at the forefront of our thinking and actions. We continue to liaise with the Department of Education (DET), Independent Schools Victoria (ISV) and Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) as this situation unfolds. As more details are available, we’ll certainly update you. We also listen to and take advice from the Federal and Local Governments. It is important to note that we do not have any confirmed case of COVID-19 amongst our College community, namely staff, students and their families. We will continue to be in touch with you regularly and will respond to your queries as quickly as we would normally. This situation is challenging for us all and we thank you for your continued patience, care and compassion. Ongoing communication is key to our success. Therefore, we welcome any suggestions or feedback during this time.

We are praying that SMCOC Staff, students and families stay safe and healthy. Yours sincerely, Father Tadros Sharobeam College Principal
