2012 Florida Southern Softball Media Guide Christoverson Humanities Building (all three designed by world-renowned architect Robert A.M. Stern), the McKay Archives Center, the Blanton Nursing Building, the Rinker Technology Center, and TûTû’s Café (located in the Roux Library). Further improvements include the complete renovation of the student dining facility (Wynee’s Bistro), residence hall and campus-wide technology upgrades, and a campus beautification project featuring dozens of interconnected plazas and gardens. Dr. Kerr graduated from Mercer University and received her M.S. and Ph.D. from Florida State University. Prior to assuming the Presidency at Florida Southern, she served as Vice President for Advancement both at the University of Richmond and at Rollins College. She has held numerous volunteer leadership roles, and currently serves on the boards of SunTrust Bank, All Saints’ Academy, EarthLinked Technologies, Inc., the Polk Museum of Art, and the Florida Chamber of Commerce. She recently completed a two-year term as president of the Sunshine State Athletic Conference. Dr. Kerr and her husband, Roy, have a seventeen-year-old son, Ed, who plays baseball for All Saints’ Academy. Dr. Roy Kerr is a retired professor of Spanish and a baseball historian, whose recent publications include The Loving of the Game: a Baseball Memoir (2007); Sliding Billy Hamilton: the Life and Times of Baseball’s First Great Leadoff Man (2010), and Roger Connor: Home Run King of Nineteenth-Century Baseball (2011).

Anne B. Kerr, Ph.D. College President Since her appointment as Florida Southern College’s seventeenth president in 2004, Dr. Anne Kerr’s visionary leadership has enhanced the student experience on campus and increased the college’s national prominence. Under her direction, the institution has renewed its commitment to educate the whole person—academically, socially, spiritually and physically—in order to insure that students leave prepared to make a positive and consequential impact on our world. Early in her tenure, Dr. Kerr oversaw implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan for the College that was designed to enrich all facets of our student-centered culture. Opportunities for active learning and leadership were increased; innovative, engaged, and personalized instruction were prioritized; and the College’s scholar-athlete program became a national model for NCAA Division II athletic programs. Recent college improvements include ongoing restoration projects on the Frank Lloyd Wright campus and the construction of a Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian House for use as a Tourism and Education Center, which will be the first Wright design built since 1966. Other new construction includes the two-building Barnett Residential Complex and the

Named to the AD position February 21, 2008, he officially assumed his duties July 1, 2008, when Lois Webb retired. In the fall of 2008, Meyer was given the additional title of Dean of Wellness, putting the operation of the Hollis Wellness Center, as well as the water ski program and campus intramurals under his direction. Meyer, who has been at Florida Southern since 1998, also served as assistant athletics director for Webb from February of 2006 until his AD appointment. In his previous stint as baseball coach (2002-08), Meyer spent six full seasons as head coach, guiding the Moccasins to their ninth NCAA Division II national title in 2005 with a 51-11 record. His head coaching record at Florida Southern is 282-121-1, while his overall record as a head coach is 321-151-1. Thirty-eight Moccasin baseball players have been drafted or signed professional contracts during Meyer's tenure as head coach. Before officially assuming the reigns of head baseball coach in June of 2002, Meyer had served for over three years as Florida Southern's top assistant coach under Chuck Anderson. He also was the program's recruiting coordinator. Prior to joining the FSC coaching staff, Meyer spent five seasons at Valdosta State, working under legendary head coach Tommy Thomas. Before his stint at Valdosta State, Meyer was head baseball coach at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, where he coordinated the start of the school's Division III program in 1991. His Oglethorpe teams won Eastern Division titles in the SCAC in each of his two seasons (1992-93). He served as a graduate assistant at Valdosta State from 198890, while earning his M. Ed. in physical education. A four-year baseball letterman at the College of Wooster in Ohio, Meyer graduated in 1987 with a B.A. in speech communication. Meyer is married to the former Julie Newnum. The couple has three children - 23-year old Ross, 21-year-old Mitchell, who is enrolled at FSC, and 20-year old Megan, who attends Trinity University in Texas.

Pete Meyer Athletic Director Now in his fourth year (2011-12) as Director of Athletics at Florida Southern College, Pete Meyer saw Moccasin teams enjoy another successful year in 2010-11. The women’s golf team finished third at the NCAA Division II Championship; the swimming team claimed four individual event NCAA championships (Mary O’Sullivan – 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke, Jeb Halfacre – 200-yard backstroke, and the men’s 400-yard medley relay team); and twelve of FSC’s programs participated in NCAA postseason competition. FSC won Sunshine State Conference titles in men’s cross country (14th straight) and women’s basketball (regular season and SSC tournament), won the SSC women’s Mayors’ Cup, and tied for second in the men’s Mayors’ Cup. That success combined to give the Moccasins a 19th-place finish, tops among SSC schools, in the 2010-11 Learfield Sports/NACDA Cup standings and their 10th top-25 finish in the program's history. Meyer also returned to the coaching ranks in 2010-11, taking command of the baseball program 12 games into the season and guiding the Moccasins to a final season record of 32-15. In 2009-10, FSC won its 12th NCAA men’s golf title and 27th national title overall and produced its first national champion in swimming (Jeb Halfacre – 200-yard backstroke). Eleven programs were represented in NCAA postseason competition, with men’s golf, basketball and cross country teams capturing SSC titles. In Meyer's first year as AD (2008-09), Moccasin teams produced three SSC championships (men's cross country, men's basketball, softball) and a fifth-place national finish in women's golf. 2012 Florida Southern Softball Preview With 2011 now in the history books, the 2012 Florida Southern Moccasins begin their season under more pressure than any Moccasin team that’s ever come before them. Why? Well, the Mayans predicted the world would come to an end on December 21 (or the 23rd, depending on your interpretation), and if that’s not pressure, what is? It means this might be the Mocs’ last chance – their very last chance – to add another trophy to a case that’s already overflowing. Then again, since every other team in America is playing under the same type of doomsday deadline, and the Mocs already own quite a collection of hardware, there isn’t nearly as much pressure on them as there is on everyone else. That should actually make for a pretty relaxed season as far as the Mocs are concerned. Florida Southern also has a hall of fame coach in Chris Bellotto who’s successfully guided them through so many tough spots in the past, the end of the world just provides a different backdrop for a different season. On that bright note, the Moccasins have the same goals in 2012 they’ve had in every other season; and to achieve those goals, they’ll need their senior class to play as well as they did as juniors in 2011; their junior college transfers to step in and play the roles they were brought in to play; and their sophomores to put together the type of complete season all of them showed they were capable of having at different points during their rookie campaigns. The Moccasins will also need at least some of their freshmen to contribute right away if they’re going to overtake the three teams that finished ahead of them last year in the conference standings and went on to play in the NCAA Tournament. One thing Florida Southern hopes to avoid is a repeat of last year’s pitching situation when injuries and inexperience really limited what Bellotto could do at times, and forced Christine Clark to shoulder a much larger portion of the load than anyone wanted to see her carry. Over the final 29 games, Clark had every one of Florida Southern’s 16 wins, and over the course of the season, she had 22 of 25. That ratio has to come down for the Mocs to get back to the postseason, where they last appeared in 2009 with Clark as one of their starting pitchers. Now a senior, and a 2‐time All‐Sunshine State Conference selection, Clark has won 46 games in her career with a 1.94 ERA, including a 22‐12 record last year when she led the SSC in appearances and was second in wins. While she’s not known as a strikeout pitcher, neither does she give anything away, averaging less than a walk per game throughout her career, and throwing only three wild pitches in over 200 innings as a junior. With Clark, the

Mocs know what they’re going to get every time out, and that type of comfort level is what they’re now looking for from the rest of their pitching staff. Another member of that staff is sophomore Liana Derringer, who burst on the scene with a shutout in her first college start after shutting down teams like Flagler and Rollins in relief outings early in the season. She had a 3‐2 record with a 0.72 ERA at the halfway point of the season before walks took their toll. It’s the strong start though, along with the .237 opponents’ batting average that proves Derringer has what it takes to win at the college level, and the Mocs are counting on her to do that from start to finish this year. Lindsay LaChance is another sophomore who got a taste of the college game last year. Though she appeared in only two games, LaChance has now had the opportunity to work on her pitching year‐round after a high school career in Maine that saw her excel in multiple sports. Two freshmen have been added to the pitching staff too, and both will be given the chance to become regular members of the rotation. Sam Gale was a 4‐year starter for St. Cloud High School where she put together a career record of 56‐25 with a 1.29 ERA, and 604 strikeouts in nearly 500 innings. She also hit at, or very close to .500 as a junior and senior, and could help the Mocs out with her bat as well. Lauren Wolfe was an All‐State selection as a senior at Durant High School and also averaged well over a strikeout per inning in her prep career. While compiling a 30‐17 record, Wolfe saw opposing batters hit just .170 against her. Something else the Moccasins don’t want to see repeat itself are the defensive miscues that hurt them in a number of games in 2011. Their 73 errors were a team record and led to well over an extra run per game. Bellotto hopes some shuffling in the infield and outfield will erase a lot of those errors, and take some pressure off both the pitching staff and the offense. One of those position changes involves senior Brittany Martin, who lit up opposing pitchers with a .417 batting average, seven home runs and 33 RBI in her first season with the Moccasins. She was a first team all‐ conference first baseman but is moving back across the diamond to third base where she was the region defensive player‐of‐the‐year at Iowa Central Community College in 2010. It’s Martin’s bat, however, that’s been the biggest difference maker, whether it’s been at Florida Southern or at Iowa Central where she was a 2‐time All‐American. She’ll once again hit in the middle of the lineup where she can do the most damage. 4

With Martin now at third, first base could be manned by as many as three different players. A lot of that might depend on who is pitching since Christine Clark is one of them. A .301 career hitter, her bat was partially responsible for earning her all‐ conference honors two years ago as a utility player. She helped stabilize the middle of the lineup and could do the same as a pitcher or first baseman this year too. Senior Randi Grimes will see time at first base too, and though she played there only sparingly in 2011, she was a First Team All‐SSC selection as a designated player with a .325 batting average and 28 RBI in 40 games. Grimes will once again hit somewhere in the middle of the lineup where she found a home after coming off the bench early in 2011. Junior college transfer Heather Brinkmeier gives Florida Southern a third option at first base and is the type of hitter who could also provide some extra power. She hit 13 doubles and eight home runs as a sophomore at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Alabama, and had 14 home runs in her JC career. Senior Steph Graziani split time between second base and left field last season, but is expected to be a full‐time infielder this season. She’ll be Florida Southern’s leadoff hitter again too, after she finished fourth in the SSC with a .452 on‐base percentage. She hit .370 with six doubles, two triples and 10 RBI, and was second in the SSC with 23 stolen bases. Most of those steals came in the second half of the season, when she established herself as the league’s best leadoff hitter. At shortstop, sophomore Christie Bailey has the job to herself this year after sharing it last season when she started 24 games. She really settled into the position late in the season, making just one

error in her last 11 starts, and it’s that kind of steady play the Mocs are looking for in 2012. The middle infield also includes freshman Marty Wilcox, a 4‐time First Team All‐State shortstop in West Virginia while playing for Charleston Catholic High School. Wilcox had a career batting average of .531, hit 18 home runs and stole 67 bases, and she’s not just limited to one position. The Mocs could also use her at second base or in the outfield where she played for her travel ball team in Florida. Sam Gale is another possible middle infielder if she’s not pitching, and gives the Moccasins even more depth behind Bailey. The Moccasins will be breaking in a new catcher this spring in junior Devin Mathews, a mid‐year transfer who hit .352 with five home runs and 29 RBI during a 50‐game junior college career. An all‐conference pick for Chipola College in 2011, Mathews will give the Moccasins another power threat they didn’t have last year. If Mathews isn’t behind the plate, the Moccasins have several other players who’ve also been catchers at different points in their careers. Gale is one of those, and handled the position very well when she hit over .500 during her final three seasons at St. Cloud High School. Grimes has also caught for both Florida Southern in 2011, and Manatee Community College for two years prior to that. In the outfield, Florida Southern has two returning starters, but both of them will probably be moving into new positions. Sophomore Khaliah Brown won the job in right field last year as a walk‐on, but is expected to move over to left. That means senior Karlyn Scott, who took over as the left fielder in early March, is expected to move into center. Scott proved to be a big addition to the lineup, hitting .257 with 15 RBI and 13 steals. She started the final 36 games as the #2 hitter in the lineup, and filled that role to perfection. Whether it was a bunt, a ground ball to move a runner over, a key hit or a stolen base, Scott did it all. She’ll be asked to do the same type of things again this year. Brown seemingly came out of nowhere and was hitting over .300 for most of the season before a rough three‐week stretch at the end of the year dropped her to .256. Much like Derringer in the pitcher’s circle, Brown’s first half numbers showed what she’s capable of doing, and her .313 batting average against NCAA playoff teams was even more evidence. Freshman Dayna Hunn, a 2‐time All‐State selection at Williston High School near Gainesville, is looking to nail down the right field position after leading the Red Devils to three straight district titles and a spot in Florida’s 3A state semifinals 5

2012 Florida Southern Softball Media Guide as a junior. Hunn is capable of playing a multitude of positions, including catcher and third base. Her biggest season came in 2010, when she hit .464 with seven homers and 32 RBI. In addition to Scott and Brown, two other outfielders also return for the Moccasins, but neither has seen a tremendous amount of playing time in the field. Senior Brandy Pikus has, however, seen a lot of playing time in other spots, most notably as the Moccasins’ top pinch‐ runner over the last three seasons. In that role, Pikus has been placed in her share of pressure points, and with 74 games under her belt, she’s an experienced player the Mocs can use in different situations. Sophomore Kianna Murphy may not have the experience yet that Pikus has, but she has a big bat and should benefit from a full year of practice that she didn’t have last year as a freshman. Freshman Cassie Haynes joins the Moccasins from Allen Park High School in Michigan where she helped the Jaguars win three district titles and one region title just as Hunn did for her high school team in Florida. A 2‐time all‐region honoree, Haynes hit .404 as a senior, and though she came to Florida Southern as an outfielder, she may also see time at third base behind Martin.

Sophomore Allasyn Lieneck is a transfer who may be a newcomer for the Moccasins, but she’s already had one big year as a college softball player. Lieneck was the leading hitter for Nichols College, a Division III school in Massachusetts, as a freshman, and was also an all‐conference outfielder for the Bison. After hitting .376 with 20 steals, she’s returned to her native Florida and landed a spot on Florida Southern’s roster, and Bellotto hopes she’ll play as well for the Mocs as she did for Nichols. When the Moccasins take the field in February for their first game of the season, they’ll do so knowing they were picked to finish fourth in the Sunshine State Conference. That brings us back to the Mayans and their own debatable predictions for 2012. If they were so good at seeing into the future, how is it they never quite figured out what the Conquistadors were up to, or even saw them coming in the first place? Maybe if they’d paid a little more attention to their present, things would have played out differently. There might be a lesson there too for anyone else predicting what might happen in 2012. Whether the Mayans were right or wrong about the end of the world will have to wait a little while longer, but the Moccasins’ own future will be decided much earlier. That means the predictions made in January won’t mean anything in May, when they hope to have at least one more trophy to clutch, just in case the Mayans are right.

2012 SSC Preseason Poll With two pitchers back from a staff that led the nation in ERA last year, Rollins College was picked to repeat as SSC champion in 2012. The vote was close though, as Rollins and Tampa each picked up nine first‐place votes. Rollins returns a total of four All‐SSC players, led by SSC Pitcher‐of‐the‐Year Hope Bitzer. Tampa returns three All‐SSC players, including All‐American pitcher Deanna Henriott. Florida Southern, which has won a record 24 conference titles, was picked fourth.

Head Coach Chris Bellotto Hutchinson with 84. In their 19 trips to the playoffs, the Moccasins have advanced at least as far as the region final 14 times, and only once have they been eliminated in two games. Bellotto’s coaching career began in 1979, when Florida Southern began softball as a club sport. That year, while still a student at the college, she led the Mocs to fifth place in the state tournament. In 1980, as a college senior, Bellotto’s team went 15-10, and her 1981 squad was 22-9 while competing with no scholarships against schools that offered as many as 15. One year later, Florida Southern became a full-fledged intercollegiate program and Bellotto guided the Moccasins to a 22-12 record overall and a perfect 16-0 mark in the Sunshine State Conference, which was sponsoring slow-pitch softball for the first time. Her first win came on March 17, 1982, when the Mocs defeated Saint Leo, 11-4. Florida Southern won the SSC title again in 1983 and ‘84 as well, going 16-0 in the conference during both of those seasons too, before the SSC moved to fastpitch competition in 1985. After two more conference titles in 1985 and ‘86, Bellotto took the Moccasins to the next level in 1987, as Florida Southern earned its first NCAA Tournament bid in softball. The Mocs won a then school-record 49 games that year and led the nation in scoring, fielding and winning percentage. They went 24-0 in conference play, and swept through the regional

The only head coach in the history of Florida Southern softball, Chris Bellotto is in her 31st season in charge of the Moccasins. As of 2012, she is one of only 20 softball coaches in any NCAA division with over 1,000 career wins, and one of 12 who are still active. That accomplishment is just one of many that earned her the highest individual honor a college softball coach can achieve when she was inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame on December 10, 2010. Bellotto’s career record of 1,151-378, and .753 winning percentage puts her among the best softball coaches in NCAA history. That record includes an 80-34 mark in three slow-pitch seasons (1982-84), and a 1,061-344 mark in fast-pitch competition. She ranks fourth in the D-II record book for fastpitch wins and among the top ten in winning percentage (.755). On the active list, only Frank Cheek of Humboldt State (CA) has more career wins at the Division II level, and Bellotto ranks 12th among active coaches in any NCAA division. Bellotto earned her 1,000th career win on March 16, 2007, when the Moccasins defeated Bryant University, 2-0, and two years later, on March 27, 2009, she picked up her 1,000th fastpitch victory when the Mocs won at Eckerd, 9-1. That made her the 14th coach in NCAA history to reach that milestone, and just the fifth in Division II. During her 30-year tenure at Florida Southern, the Moccasins have had just one losing season, while winning 30 or more games 23 times. They also have 17 seasons with 40 or more wins, and three seasons with at least 50. The Mocs have averaged better than 40 wins per year since 1987, and set a school record with 55 wins in both 2004 and 2006. With Bellotto guiding the team since its inception, Florida Southern has won more conference titles than any other Division II program, and made 19 trips to the NCAA Tournament. All of those postseason bids have come since 1987, and the Mocs have won more postseason games and NCAA regional titles than all but one other current Division II school. During her time at Florida Southern, the Moccasins have made three appearances in the national championship game (most recently in 2004) and are one of only two schools at any level to play in a national title game in each of the first three decades the NCAA has held a softball championship. Overall, Bellotto has won 24 conference titles (combining slow-pitch and fast-pitch), eight regional titles and one National Championship. That national title came in 1993 when Florida Southern went 45-11, came out of the loser’s bracket with backto-back shutouts after dropping their first game at the National Tournament, and closed things out with an 11-5 victory over Augustana (SD) that gave the school its first national championship in women’s athletics. Those 11 runs are still a DII championship game record. Florida Southern’s 19 NCAA playoff appearances under Bellotto are topped by only three other Division II programs (Bloomsburg with 29, Nebraska-Omaha with 24, and California (PA) with 20); and with over 100 NCAA postseason games to her credit, Bellotto has also led the Mocs to 61 playoff wins, a number surpassed by only former Bloomsburg coach Jan 8

2012 Florida Southern Softball Media Guide Following their fourth straight SSC title in 2007, and a fourth-place finish at the national tournament, Bellotto had to replace seven senior starters, three of them AllAmericans, and all seven of them career record holders of one type or another. Even with that daunting task, Bellotto still had the Mocs in contention in 2008, as Florida Southern was among the top teams in the South Region all year with a 29-14 record. Along the way, they earned victories over seven different teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, including two regional champions (Barry and LIU-C.W. Post) and two regional runners-up (Tampa and Wayne State of Michigan). Not surprisingly, Florida Southern followed that year with yet another conference championship in 2009, breaking the team home run record for the second time in four years, while the pitching staff again finished among the top 20 in the country in earned run average. Their 43-15 record included an 18-6 mark in conference play, and their improvement from sixth place to first place in the SSC standings was the greatest one-year turn-around in league history. That earned Bellotto SSC Coach-of-the-Year honors for the 15th time in her career. Those 15 SSC Coach-of-the-Year awards are by far the most for any softball coach in league history, and only current Tampa volleyball coach Chris Catanach has won as many coaching awards in any sport sponsored by the SSC. As a further highlight to her success, Bellotto was named the head coach on the SSC Silver Anniversary Team in 2007, and has compiled an incredible 571-135 record in conference play for an .809 winning percentage. The Moccasins remain the only SSC softball program to go undefeated through conference in any season, doing so seven times, including a pair of 24-0 records in 1987 and 1989.

tournament without allowing a run, before eventually losing in the National Championship Game to Cal StateNorthridge. Bellotto’s success continued throughout the remainder of the ‘80’s and into the ‘90’s as Florida Southern would go on to win 16 straight Sunshine State Conference fast-pitch titles from 1985-2000, and earn 14 consecutive NCAA bids from 1987-2000. At one point, from the middle of the 1985 season through the end of 1989, Florida Southern won 95 consecutive conference games, including 62 in shutout fashion. That 95-game winning streak is the longest for any team in any conference sport since the SSC was founded in 1975. When the new millennium began, the Moccasins kept doing the same things they’d always done, winning six more conference championships from 2000-09. That included four in a row from 2004-07, a 4-year stretch that saw Florida Southern go 200-42. During that time, the Moccasins won three South Region titles and went 22-10 during NCAA postseason play. The Mocs finished fourth in the national tournament in 2007, third in 2006, and were national runners-up in 2004, a year in which they had six freshmen in the starting lineup and only two seniors on the roster, but went 55-8. Those 55 wins were a new school record, and were also the most ever won by a Sunshine State Conference school. The 2006 team was among the best ever coached by Bellotto, as the Moccasins tied their 2-year old school record by again going 55-8, set a new school record with 49 regular season wins, captured their 22nd conference title, and won the South Region title en route to their third-place finish at the national tournament. The Mocs spent most of the season ranked in the NFCA top five, opened the year with 18 straight wins, and set school records for home runs and shutouts. The season culminated with a record-setting 13-2 win over AlabamaHuntsville in the South Region Championship Game, earning the Moccasins their seventh regional title and a seventh trip to the NCAA Division II National Tournament. The Moccasins went 2-2 in Salem, Virginia that year to finish third overall, giving them two third-place finishes, two runner-up finishes and one national championship under Bellotto.

2012 Florida Southern Softball Media Guide With her induction into the NFCA Hall of Fame in 2010, along with Nebraska head coach Rhonda Revelle and Illinois State head coach Melinda Fischer, Bellotto has now earned similar honors in four different organizations. Her first was the Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame in February of 2000, followed two years later by her selection as a charter member to the Florida Southern College Athletic Hall of Fame. In June of 2005, she was inducted into the Polk County Sports Hall of Fame. Bellotto was also honored with the “Women in Sports” Achievement Award presented by Saint Leo University in February of 2001. A lifelong Lakeland resident, Bellotto graduated from Lakeland High School in 1974, and earned her A.A. degree from Polk Community College in 1977. She then graduated from Florida Southern College with her bachelor’s degree in 1980, and received her master’s degree from the University of South Florida in 1984. In addition to her role as head softball coach at Florida Southern, she has served two terms on the NCAA Division II South Region selection committee, and is also a faculty member in the school’s Physical Education Department.

At the regional level, Bellotto (or her staff) has been named the Coach-of-the-Year 10 times in her career, and twice she’s been selected as the NFCA Division II National Coach-of-theYear. She first won that award in 1989 when the Moccasins went 46-8 and finished third in the nation. The second time came following Florida Southern’s national championship in 1993. Individually, 26 different All-Americans have played for Bellotto, combining to win a total of 45 All-American awards, including 21 first-team selections. Among them are four-time All-Americans Kellie Robinson and Shelly Davis, and threetime winner Megan Brown. Both Robinson and Davis are members of the SSC Hall of Fame, as are Dori Stankewitz, Traci Wood, Julianne Coleman and the most recent inductee, Wanda Graham. Bellotto has also had 19 Academic AllAmericans, 91 All-South Region selections, and six players named the SSC Female Athlete-of-the-Year for all sports. When the league selected its Silver Anniversary Team in 2007, Bellotto was joined on that squad by 14 of her former players, the most of any team in the league.

1,100 Wins and Counting On March 16, 2007, Chris Bellotto became just the tenth coach in NCAA history at any level to win 1,000 games in her career. That win total covers both slow‐pitch and fast‐pitch competition. With the NCAA recognizing only fast‐pitch competition, Bellotto officially joined the 1,000‐win list on March 27, 2009, when the Moccasins defeated Eckerd College 9‐1 in St. Petersburg.

Assistant Coach Michelle Tatlock Now in her second year as assistant coach is Michelle Tatlock, a former Florida Southern player who started 214 games for the Moccasins from 2005-08. The 2012 season is her fourth as a college coach after she previously served two years as an assistant at Hillsdale College in Michigan under Jamie Meyers. Tatlock originally came to Florida Southern from Osceola High School in Seminole, Florida as a second baseman, joining a team in the fall of 2004 that had lost only two starters from the previous season and was coming off a national runner-up finish. She stepped right into the lineup though, and started every game her freshman year, hitting .273 overall, and .301 over the final three months of the season. She hit three home runs, and her 30 RBI ranked second in the SSC among freshmen. As a sophomore, Tatlock moved to the outfield full-time and again started every game for a team that finished third at the NCAA Division II National Tournament. Tatlock was a major part of that, hitting .311 with two home runs, 38 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Her RBI total was good for third in the SSC among outfielders and ranked eighth overall. She was also second in the SSC that year with seven triples. After hitting .298 as a junior when the Moccasins again advanced to the national tournament, Tatlock finished her playing days at Florida Southern with a career-best .331 average as a senior in 2008. She also led the team and was third in the conference with 18 stolen bases (getting caught only once), and was second on the team with 49 hits and 30 runs scored. She hit .338 in the Mocs’ 20 games against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament, the best average on the team. Tatlock’s 4-year numbers at Florida Southern include a .304 batting average, 190 hits, 133 runs scored, seven home runs and 109 RBI in 214 career games. She graduated tied for fourth in team history with 18 triples and was 40-for-45 on career stolen base attempts. Though she spent the majority of her career in the outfield, she also saw time as a pitcher for the Moccasins in 2007. While Tatlock had an impressive playing career at Florida Southern, her accomplishments in the postseason were even more noteworthy. Her .323 lifetime batting average in the NCAA playoffs ranks fifth in team history and her 13 RBI ranks third. As a sophomore in 2006, she was named to the All-South Region Tournament Team after going five-for-13 with a team-high seven RBI, and then drove in the winning run with a 2-out single in the 11th inning to beat Emporia State 1-0 in the second round of the national tournament. The following year in 2007, she was Florida Southern’s leading hitter in the NCAA playoffs with a .381 batting average, and went four-for-10 with a home run and two RBI in the national tournament. After graduating in the spring of 2008 with a degree in finance, Tatlock continued her playing career that summer in National Pro Fastpitch with the Philadelphia Force. She then joined the coaching staff at Hillsdale College, a position she held until the summer of 2010 when she returned to Florida Southern.

Assistant Coach Al Bellotto Al Bellotto, who is the younger brother of head coach Chris Bellotto, has been a member of the Florida Southern softball staff for 21 years, covering two different periods. During his coaching career, he’s helped the Moccasins win 15 Sunshine State Conference championships and five South Region titles. The most recent regional championship came in 2007, when the Moccasins went 5115, and finished fourth at the Division II National Tournament. Those accomplishments made Bellotto part of the 2007 NFCA South Region Coaching Staff-of-the-Year. Bellotto was also a member of the 1993 national championship team and much of the Mocs’ success at the plate that year was attributed to his work with the hitters. The Moccasins hit .371 that year, a school record at the time, but one which they broke just two years later with a .376 average. That mark still stands in the Florida Southern record book. Since returning to staff in 2007, Bellotto has seen the Moccasins hit .310 over the last five years, and finish with at least two of the top 10 individual hitters in the Sunshine State Conference in each of those seasons. The 2009 Moccasins set a school record for home runs, the same year Bellotto was credited with the mid-season turn-around of centerfielder Dani Blake, who the Mocs switched from a right-handed hitter to a lefthanded slapper in March. Hitting just .122 at the time of the switch, Blake hit .319 afterwards, and .340 over the final 20 games. She was one of three Florida Southern players to hit over .350 in 2011, a group that also included Brittany Martin, the second different Moccasin to hit well over .400 in the last five years, and Steph Graziani, whose .370 average was the best in the SSC among all leadoff hitters. A former member of the Florida Southern baseball team, Bellotto was an outfielder and catcher for the Moccasins, and prior to that was an All-State selection in both baseball and football at Lakeland High School, one of the top football programs in the country. 13

DID YOU KNOW?... Christine Clark earned 22 of Florida Southern’s 25 wins in 2011, the highest percentage for any pitcher in team history. It was also the fourth highest percentage in Division II last year among pitchers with at least 20 wins.

Returning starter at second base, but also started several games in the outfield after an All‐American junior college career at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa… Helped the Tritons to back‐to‐back 50‐win seasons… One of two players on the roster from Iowa Central, coming to Florida Southern with Brittany Martin… Finished her junior college career with a .408 batting average, 147 hits, three homers, 48 RBI, and 88 stolen bases in two years playing for coach Rick Sandquist… Member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Iowa Central. DID YOU KNOW?... On March 9 last year at Warner, Steph Graziani became the first Moccasin to hit two triples in one game since current assistant coach Michelle Tatlock did it in 2007. However, Graziani is only the fourth Moccasin in the last 12 years to have a multi‐double game and a multi‐triple game in the same season, and the only one in team history to do that in back‐to‐back games. No Moccasin has ever had games with two or more doubles, two or more triples, and two or more home runs in the same season.

Randi Grimes was the only player on the team in 2011 who ranked in the top three of all the so‐called pressure categories: batting average with runners in scoring position, average with two out, average with two strikes, and percentage of driving in a runner from third with less than two out. Did You Know?... In 2011, Karlyn Scott became the 10th Moccasin to steal at least 10 bases in a season without getting caught. With Dani Blake going 12‐for‐12, it was the first time the Mocs had two of those players on the same team. No Moccasin has ever been able to do that twice in their career, however, something Scott will have a chance to do in 2012.

Transfer from Nichols College, a Division III school in Dudley, Massachusetts where she was the only player on the roster not from New England or New York… Starting outfielder at Nichols as a freshman for coach Kristan Mallet, and helped the Bison finish 22‐17 overall and third in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 17‐7 record. Katy Cortleyou won the league’s first SSC Pitcher-ofthe-Year award in 1995, going 28-7 with a 1.36 ERA, 157 strikeouts and 37 walks in 195.2 innings. That included a 17-2 mark in conference play. Cortelyou was a 3-time First Team All-SSC selection who won 67 games during those three seasons and was the winning pitcher in the 1993 national championship game. Megan Brown won just about every award a player could win in her career, and her 124 victories are not only a school record, but a conference record as well. In 2007 alone, she was a First Team All-American, a First Team Academic All-American, the SSC Pitcher-of-the-Year, and the overall SSC Female Athleteof-the-Year. That same season, Brown and teammate Sarah Kohlbrenner were the only active players selected to the SSC Silver Anniversary Softball Team. Brown went on to earn an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and has played professional softball both in the United States and Italy.

SSC HALL OF FAME MEMBERS Dori Stankewitz, Pitcher (1994) – Her 81‐15 record gives her a career winning percentage of .844, the best in SSC history... Had a 37‐0 record in SSC play... Had 927 strikeouts, 55 shutouts, 90 complete games, 20 no‐hitters and three perfect games... Her consecutive scoreless innings streak of 64.0 in 1988 was an NCAA record for 12 years, and her 20 strikeouts in one game are still the NCAA 7‐inning record... Led the nation in strikeouts per game three times, averaged 10.3 in her career, and was the 1988 SSC Female Athlete‐of‐the‐Year... Two‐time All‐American, three‐time All‐SSC, and two‐time Academic All‐American.

Traci Wood, Outfielder (2007) – Ranks sixth in school history with a .404 career batting average… Led the nation in stolen bases in both 1995 and 1996... Her 81 steals in 1996 are still the SSC record, and her school‐ record 183 career steals are among the all‐ time leaders in Division II history... One of only two players in team history with more than 100 steals… Scored 205 runs in her career, a school record at the time, and a figure that still ranks second… Two‐time First Team All‐American, two‐time First Team All‐South Region and three‐time First Team All‐SSC.

Kellie Robinson, First Base/Shortstop (1999) – Hit .406 with 42 doubles, 15 triples, six home runs, 50 steals and 159 RBI in her career... Twice led the SSC in doubles and RBI… Never finished lower than third in the SSC in batting, and also finished in the top three of the SSC in RBI all four years... Florida Southern’s first four‐time All‐American in any sport (1989‐92)... The 1992 SSC Player‐of‐ the‐Year and Female Athlete‐of‐the‐Year... Four‐time First Team All‐South Region and four‐time First Team All‐SSC, winning those awards at two different positions.

Julianne Coleman, Pitcher (2008) – Career record of 80‐18 with 13 saves and a school record for lowest opponents’ average (.138)... Two‐time SSC Pitcher‐of‐the‐Year, two‐time All‐American and two‐time Academic All‐American... Posted a 0.75 ERA and struck out 857 batters in 684.2 innings with 28 shutouts... Led the SSC in nearly every pitching category as a junior, and was first or second as a senior... Her 368 strikeouts in 1998 are a school record, and at the time a conference record... In 1998, became the first pitcher in SSC history to win 30 games in one season.

Chris Bellotto, Coach (2000) – The only coach in team history… In 2007, became just the tenth coach at any NCAA level with 1,000 career wins… Has guided the Mocs to 24 SSC championships (including slow‐pitch) and eight regional titles… The conference championships are the most by any coach in SSC history for any sport, and the most for any softball coach in Division II… Has taken Florida Southern to three national championship games and won the 1993 national title… 15‐time SSC Coach‐of‐the‐Year… Has coached six SSC Hall of Famers, six SSC Female Athletes‐of‐ the‐Year, 45 All‐Americans, and 19 Academic All‐Americans.

Wanda Graham, Outfielder (2011) – Set Florida Southern’s career home run record with 16 from 1990‐93… Hit .399 for her career with a .474 on‐base percentage, 125 RBI and 54 stolen bases… During the Mocs’ 1993 national championship season, set school records for batting average (.500) and OBP (.577), hit seven home runs and had 50 RBI… Hit .571 with two homers that season in the national tournament… Two‐time All‐American, was a two‐time First Team All‐South Region pick, and a three‐ time First Team All‐SSC selection.

Shelly Davis, Shortstop (2005) – Four‐time NFCA All‐American from 1993‐96 and was a First Team selection her final three seasons… Four‐time First Team All‐South Region and First Team All‐SSC… Hit .462 for her career, good for third in SSC history… Ranks second in school history with 164 RBI, and her 298 hits and 58 doubles are both school and SSC records… Her batting average and .512 on base percentage are Florida Southern career records… Hit .450 or better in three different seasons, including a .500 batting average as a senior when she was named SSC Player‐of‐the‐Year and SSC Female Athlete‐of‐the‐Year. Keltie Christian was the Mocs’ MVP in 2000 and 2001, a 2-year span that saw her post a 50-23 record with 23 shutouts, nine saves, a 0.80 ERA, and 708 strikeouts in 524.0 innings.

Megan Brown is Florida Southern’s only 3-time MVP during the fastpitch era and the only freshman to win the award. In 2004, she went 36-5 with a 0.44 ERA and won four games in the national tournament. 48

Christine Clark has been the Mocs’ MVP each of the last two seasons. Last year she had 22 of Florida Southern’s 25 wins, picked up one save, and hit .298 with six doubles, one home run and 15 RBI.

Keltie Christian

Game two went 14 innings, with Elston behind the plate for all of it once again. Christian entered the game with one out in the top of the 10th inning and finished it off for Carrie Newton, striking out nine more Buccaneers in 4.2 innings. She eventually earned a 1-0 victory when the Mocs strung together three straight singles in the bottom of the 14th, and pinch-runner Tracey Edwards scored on a wild pitch.

April Elston

The 21-inning game is tied for the longest in Division II history, with LeMoyne (NY) and SUNY-Cortland playing a 21-inning game in 1992. The 35 innings stands alone though as the longest doubleheader. Later in 2001, Florida Southern would be involved in another long doubleheader at Tampa, but the Mocs weren’t as fortunate in that one. On April 1, 2001, Keltie Christian and April Elston were part of the longest game in team history, and one of the longest ever played in Division II softball. Christian pitched all 21 innings of a 2-1 loss to Barry and set a school record with 23 strikeouts, which also tied the national record. That helped Elston, who caught all 21 innings, set two team records with 24 putouts and 27 total chances. That was just game one of the doubleheader.

Did You Know? Keltie Christian is the last Moccasin to lead the nation in any statistical category, topping all Division II pitchers in strikeouts with 357 as a senior in 2001. That came after she finished second in the nation in 2000. Traci Wood is the last Moccasin to lead the nation in any offensive category, doing it in 1996 when she finished number one in stolen bases for the second year in a row. Wood is also the last Moccasin to lead the nation in two categories in one season, swiping 71 bases in 1995, and also scoring a Division II leading 78 runs that year.
