As Headteacher of Brentfield Primary School, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you. It is a privilege to lead such a fantastic school.
Our school is located in the borough of Brent and serves a diverse, multi-cultural community. We put learning at the heart of everything we do and value the richness our families bring. We work in partnership with parents and the wider community to support our children in gaining both the academic and life skills to become successful global citizens.
Our caring and dedicated staff have high expectations of all children and work hard to deliver an exciting and broad curriculum, encouraging children to take risks and solve problems.
A hidden gem, our school is a 2-form entry school which boasts large outdoor spaces and excellent facilities.
I look forward to welcoming you and your family to our school.
Mrs N. Harmer Headteacher
Our Curriculum
At Brentfield Primary School, we are BRAVE:
We Belong, We are Responsible, We are Aspirational, We Value Diversity, We are Empowered.
Through our BRAVE values, we provide a holistic education that nurtures and prepares our children for the opportunities and challenges of an unknown, yet exciting future. We are committed to safeguarding our children, enabling them to become confident, well-rounded individuals who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives.
Our curriculum is carefully planned, implemented creatively and assessed for its real-world impact. Our specially designed and bespoke learning spaces enable us to offer a curriculum that ignites curiosity, reveals the unknown and supports our children to develop the skills and knowledge they need to become creators of their own destiny.
The design and delivery of the curriculum is driven by cognitive science. Three main principles that underpin teaching and learning at Brentfield are:
• Learning is most effective when broken down into small steps;
• Recall and retention of knowledge is improved through frequent and systematic consolidation of learning;
• Pupil understanding is continuously assessed and re-addressed through responsive teaching.
At Brentfield Primary School, we give our children time; time to digest, time to apply and time to embed the knowledge and skills that they are learning in their classroom. The curriculum is interactive and intends to provide our children with the tools to become champions for tomorrow.
EYFS
At Brentfield Primary School, we welcome children to begin their adventure with us from the age of two. We believe that a successful early education is the foundation all children need to become global citizens, ready for a world of tomorrow.
We prepare our children for the years ahead by enabling them to become well-motivated, inquisitive, and independent learners who foster a passion for lifelong learning.
Our Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is progressive and builds on our children’s interests, with reading and oracy at its heart. We engage the children in a creative curriculum that is tailored to their needs and reflects the world and community in which they live. Our wide range of learning spaces encourage our children to be active learners who use play as an opportunity to investigate and explore; allowing them to think creatively and critically, developing their own strategies and ideas. Whilst creative play is at the heart of our curriculum, children also spend time learning the essential reading, writing and mathematical skills in targeted small groups, where time and attention can be given to cater learning according to individual needs.
We believe that care and education are inseparable. We take pride in establishing a loving atmosphere fostered by good relationships between home and school as these connected relationships are vital to help our children to feel happy, settled and safe.
Beyond the Curriculum
At Brentfield, we offer a wide range of learning experiences beyond the classroom which instil an appreciation of the arts, culture and our world.
Forest School
Through forest school, we offer a programme that supports play, exploration and risk taking through hands on experiences in our natural environment.
Gardening
Our gardening sessions promote physical and mental wellbeing, in addition to providing an understanding and knowledge of horticulture, conservation and environmental issues impacting the local and wider world.
Pupil Leadership
To prepare our children for the world of tomorrow, opportunities are created for children to demonstrate leadership and champion change. Leadership opportunities include:
• School Council
• House Captains
• Eco Champions
• Digital Leaders
Wraparound Care
We offer a wraparound care service through our breakfast and after school clubs where the children are also are provided with a nutritious food choice. In addition to this, children are offered a range of extra-curricular activities to promote and develop their talents and interest.
Inclusion
Through our BRAVE values we foster an inclusive culture which promotes participation and acceptance of all children.
To support each child’s journey, we value strong working partnerships with families and external professionals. We recognise that good mental health and wellbeing helps children to learn effectively, cope with day-to-day challenges and develops resilience. Whether your child has an additional need, a disability, a talent or a gift, we embrace an inclusive approach to support the uniqueness of each child.
