Sixth Form
Welcome Welcome to Hutton Church of England Sixth Form; we have a long history of excellence and would like you to be part of it. As a Sixth Form based within school grounds we offer continuity for those students who decide to stay with us and a supportive, caring and friendly environment for those who join us. Our Sixth Form is about real intellectual challenge in a stimulating and well-resourced environment. We offer excellent teaching, in small class sizes; teaching which consistently allows our students to progress to the very best universities. Further to this we offer a wide range of enrichment activities, ranging from theatre productions to international visits to our nationally recognised programme of sporting excellence. Our Director of Sixth Form and Assistant Director lead a dedicated team of Sixth Form tutors and support staff. All of this support and guidance is housed within our purpose built Sixth Form Centre. Hutton is a very special place and I warmly invite you to come and visit us to find out more. Mark L. Bradshaw Headteacher
‘Hutton Sixth Form, in one word, was fun! Visiting Parliament on the London trip was a highlight for me and I also loved being in the football and rugby squads. The Prom at Bartle Hall was also excellent.’ Tom
‘I really enjoyed the enrichment activities at Hutton Sixth Form. My A Level lessons provided the right balance of challenge and reward.’ Heather

Inside and Outside the Classroom Our purpose built Sixth Form Centre provides students with a modern, spacious facility in which to study as well as socialise. Downstairs there are Sixth Form seminar rooms, a recording studio and modern social space and refectory. Upstairs, different study zones allow for individual and small group study alongside a careers library. The site is also adjacent to a major bus route and close to local shops. Sixth Form students also have access to outstanding facilities on the main school campus including a dedicated Performing Arts block, ICT suites and outstanding sporting facilities including tennis and netball courts, large Sports Hall, Gymnasium, Fitness Suite and swimming pool.
‘Hutton Sixth Form provided me with great support from teachers and I loved being part of a close community.’ Finlay
Enrichment Hutton Sixth Form doesn’t just offer an excellent academic platform. We hope that students immerse themselves fully in the massive variety of enrichment activities on offer. This is fuelled by our core value of community. Students don’t just gel with their classmates, but are involved with activities that unite Year 12 and 13. Subject specific enrichment is always available, from Science Cafes, theme park trips, field studies and theatre visits, there is a rich programme that can be followed. In terms of academia, partaking in such pursuits looks impressive to universities and employers, as well as being enjoyable. Beyond the immediate scope of students’ A Levels, other pastimes reach beyond the classroom. These might include organising a charity event, running a Fair Trade sale, attending quizzes, prom night and other social goings-on. The Performing Arts department offers an incredibly rich array of opportunities and shows, with the last three productions being Oliver, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and Les Miserables. Hutton enjoys offering excellent sporting tradition – whether you wish to play sport at competitive level or enjoy a swim on a Wednesday afternoon – there really is something for each student, should they wish to take up a sporting activity. Our advice is always the same – immerse yourselves in extra-curricular and super-curricular pursuits. They are there to be enjoyed, but will also offer life skills and potentially help you take steps up career and university ladders too.
ASPIRE If you achieve an outstanding set of results with a significant number of grade 8s and 9s at GCSE then we want you to reach higher and be able to make the strongest application possible to some of the most highly selective degree programmes at elite universities or some of the most highly rewarding professions. The ASPIRE programme at Hutton will help you to succeed in achieving this by providing you with ideas, suggestions, advice, opportunities and tips to enhance your application, CV and interview technique.
Work Experience Year 12 work experience takes place in the summer term. Students organise their own placements after beginning their A Level studies and thinking about their future career choices. Undoubtedly, work experience helps students apply for university and informs this choice as well as helping them decide upon future goals. Certainly, work experience provides a conversation point for interviews as well as for a UCAS personal statement. From the Ministry of Defence, to local schools, to retail, law, accountancy and placements throughout the world, work experience is as fun, varied and exciting as students decide to make it.
