Post 16 Programme of Study Our Post 16 programme of study consists of a range of elements: ACADEMIC 3 A Levels / BTEC courses
CORE Core Maths OR Extended Project
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT Delivered through tutor time, assemblies and external speakers
ENRICHMENT Enrichment opportunities
Our full programme of study ensures that students follow an academic programme. This consists of selecting three subject choices from our wide range of A Level and BTEC courses. Alongside your chosen subjects you will be required to study one of our core subjects. The core subjects will run for the first year and you will gain a recognised qualification. We believe it is not only academic success that matters and therefore deliver a Personal Development Program (PDP) through our team of dedicated Post 16 Tutors. PDP covers many topics essential to preparing students for life during and after Post 16.
The enrichment section of our programme of study allows students to gain valuable transferable skills and become well-rounded individuals. We feel students gain valuable experience from getting involved in the college and wider community life. Our enrichment activity list has something for everyone. We expect all students to pick at least one enrichment activity to run alongside their studies.
Enrichment Many students get involved in enrichment activities which support the campus and the wider community. This year students have been running the reading scheme at the local library for primary school pupils, sports coaching and providing arts based projects for younger students. Many of our students are involved in the academic mentoring of younger students.
Head Boy and Girl / Leadership Team Our student leadership team has run for several years. Students gain leadership experience through organising various events, raising money for charities, governing body meetings and are true ambassadors for the campus.
Young Enterprise Young Enterprise is a fantastic way to become part of a real student led business venture. With the guidance of real business men and women, students develop a business, designate roles and design a product to manufacture and sell. Every year this group successfully enter the Leicestershire Young Enterprise competition.
Duke of Edinburgh Many students take part in the DofE award scheme, which is delivered to Silver Level at Post 16. A very rewarding and valuable qualification, which will support applications for university or employment.
And many more…. • • • • • •
Big Brothers and Sisters, Arts Award Gold, MedHedz, Sports teams and Sports Leaders, Performing Arts, Book Club etc.
If none of the current enrichment activities are of interest to you, then why not start your own! Our very successful MedHedz club was started by a former student and is now very popular. They meet once a week and invite guest speakers from the medical profession to talk to the students about their experiences.
