Parks Primary School Preparing Children for a Successful Future

Welcome to Parks Primary School Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome to Parks Primary School. We are delighted that you have chosen our school and put the trust of your child’s education and wellbeing in us. By joining Parks Primary School you are joining a team. Both pupils and staff understand their responsibility in ensuring the school is a happy place where everyone cares and supports each other. Despite being graded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted we all believe ‘getting better never stops’ and making a mistake is the first step to learning something new - not a reason to be downhearted. All staff and pupils evaluate their work and their behaviours daily to ensure that we are even better tomorrow than we have been today. Our school mission statement states our commitment ‘to preparing all children for a successful future’ and I am fortunate to have such a talented staff team who have learning and high standards at the heart of everything we do and who continuously who go ‘the extra mile’. We are committed to providing a wide range of activities and opportunities before, during and after school. We are very proud of our outstanding provision, which is only possible

because of the excellent partnership we have with our parents and carers. I warmly invite you to visit us, to ask questions and to experience the school’s friendly atmosphere. We also have a number of different ways to provide good communication opportunities between you and us: • We have an open door policy and encourage parents and carers to come in and see us if they have a concern or question • We write monthly newsletters to you • We hold termly parent meetings where we share what your child will be learning and you have an opportunity to ask our staff questions • We have an informative school website - www.parksprimary.org.uk • ‘Friend’ us on Facebook • Follow us on twitter If you have any concerns or wish to discuss aspects of the curriculum please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s teacher or visit the office to book an appointment with myself. We always endeavour to see you the same day. We very much look forward to working with you. Mrs C Evans Head teacher

‘There is something almost magical about Parks. Wherever you go, staff and pupils are

smiling and happy to be there. Children want to do their best because they are proud to

attend Parks and want their teachers to be proud of them too. The staff give so much of

themselves to the pupils that they are seen as much more than “just” educators- my children see them almost as extended family! I can not imagine a better school for my children.’ Parks Primary School Parent

Our School Community Parks Primary School is located in a vibrant and lively part of multi-cultural Leicester. Parks Primary School is located in a vibrant and lively part of multicultural Leicester. In our fantastic grounds, we boast a superbly equipped spinney which offers various learning opportunities for all of our children. We run a Breakfast Club every morning from 8am which is free and open to all of our children and their families. This is very well frequented and ensures that we’re

all adequately fed and ready for the day of learning ahead. Our numerous clubs are most definitely the pride of Parks and with the varied activities on offer, all children will find something which appeals to them whether their interest are sports, musical, social or academic. We have an actively engaged Governing Body who come into the school regularly to support us.

They work closely with our School Council. Our school councillors play an active role in the life of our school – often leading events such as National Sports week and themed fundraising days. Working with our parents and carers is something that we value highly. We have parents’ evenings twice yearly and a parent curriculum meeting at the start of every term to share information about what

your child will be learning with you. We also ensure daily communication through the use of text messaging, Facebook and Twitter and of course ensuring our teachers are available at the end of the day to discuss any concerns with parents and carers. Parks is very proud of our Friends of Parks Primary School (FOPPS) committee who enable us to raise much needed funds to

enhance the facilities on offer to our children. We work closely with other schools to share good practice and have excellent links with our local secondary schools to ensure that our children have a smooth transition into the next phase of their learning.

Our Curriculum At Parks, we pride ourselves in providing our children with a broad, varied, interesting and relevant curriculum. We have very high expectations of what our children can achieve but we are also mindful of supporting the individual needs of every child. Reading is an area of excellence at Parks and we ensure that we nurture our children’s love of reading by sharing with them a wide range of texts from classics to modern fiction.

Throughout the year, we have numerous themed weeks to further enhance the learning of our children, including; Aspirations week, Anti-Bullying week, Sports week and Healthy Eating week. The emotional well-being of our children is as important as their academic progress, and through regular PHSE and P4C (Philosophy 4 children) sessions, all children are given the opportunity to share their hopes, thoughts, fears and feelings. We also have two Forest School trained teachers who lead Forest School sessions during the school day as well as leading a Green Club after school. In addition, we not only have a maths specialist teacher but we also have a maths team who ensure that high standards of maths learning is always evident – both within daily maths lessons and also across the curriculum.

We have our very own PE specialist who delivers an excellent programme of study in PE lessons as well as leading various after school Sports clubs. Our PE teacher also coordinates numerous competitive games opportunities – both within and out of school hours. Swimming is taught on the school timetable for children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Computing plays a key role in our children’s learning and we aspire to enable our children to become digitally literate life-long learners. We offer various trips throughout the year to enhance the learning experience. This includes local trips and also visits to places such as the seaside, London and Stratford upon Avon. In addition to this all children have the opportunity to attend a residential trip in which children can participate in activities such as archery, canoeing, weaselling, abseiling etc. To enable our children to showcase their learning, all children participate in a performance at least once per year; Foundation and Key stage 1 at Christmas, Year 3/4 at Easter and Year 5/6 in the summer.

‘We feel safe at school. We are valued and listened to.’ Parks Primary Pupil
