The BTEC Diploma is structured in a variety of units that build towards a weighty and broadbased portfolio. Students experience a wide range of vocational briefs that enable them to experience and learn through different art and design specialisms. It is equivalent to three A Levels.
The current Art and Design BTEC course has an extremely successful history. Last year all students completed the course and the majority received the highest grade of D* (equivalent to A*). Many students go onto an Art Foundation with some being accepted straight onto degree courses in their chosen specialism at a range of institutions including: University of the Arts London, University of Creative Arts and Ravensbourne College. With this new course students will be equipped for University, Design College, employment and apprenticeships.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR: The course is for highly motivated artists with a keen interest in developing their art-making skills within any specialism. It has vocational focus but is equally suitable for students wishing to progress to further and/or higher education in Art and Design.

The course is comprised of two main components; coursework and an externally set assignment. Students build their portfolio, explore and develop their personal art making skills and have a variety of opportunities to exhibit their work. The course is focused heavily on students finding their own art style, developing their skills using our excellent facilities and being able to critique their own and others’ work.

The Photography Diploma enables students to learn skills and techniques in both digital and celluloid photography. Students will explore themes creatively and have access to Adobe Creative Suite and darkroom facilities. They will produce a portfolio of work and exhibit this at a range of points throughout the course.
The current Photography BTEC course has an excellent track record. Last year students achieved excellent results with a majority achieving D* (equivalent to A*). A large number of students go onto an Art Foundation course or directly on to a Photography degree course. The new course structure will enable students to be equipped for University, Design College, employment and apprenticeships.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR: This course is for highly motivated and creative learners with a keen interest in developing skills within a photographic specialism. It is an excellent creative subject to twin with a range of other advanced levels. The course itself is equivalent to two A Levels.

The Fashion and Textiles course is an A Level course. The course is AS in Year 12 and you complete A2 in Year 13. The course develops skills which can be applied to and recognised in industry. In Year 12 you complete two projects, one of which is an exam. This is also the case in Year 13. The course covers a wide range of fashion, textiles, print, construction and design skills building to a professional portfolio of work.
The majority of students studying Textiles and Fashion at TRS move onto completing a Design degree in a wide range of subjects from costume to menswear to fashion buying. Other students complete a foundation year in Art and Design before moving onto their degree. Universities attended by past students include London College of Fashion, Fashion Retail Academy, Central Saint Martins and Ravensbourne College. Apprenticeships in buying, merchandising and tailoring have also been popular with our students, securing places in these areas.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR: This course is aimed at students looking to work within or complete a degree course in design or one linked to the fashion industry. This course also sets students up well for an Art Foundation or an industry relevant apprenticeship. The course is for creative students with a love of design.
HOW IS THIS COURSE ASSESSED? The course has four units over the two years. In Year 12 students complete a personal study project worth 50%. Students then receive the exam paper in January where they begin their exam unit worth 50%. Students then sit a 10 hour exam around April. In Year 13 students also do two units, a personal study with critical essay worth 60% and an exam unit worth 40%.

THE COURSE
WHERE NEXT?
The course gives students the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in IT Systems, Systems Management and Social Media in Business. The course provides transferable knowledge and skills that prepare students for progression to university. These include the ability to learn independently, to research actively and methodically and to be able to give presentations and be active group members.
Combined with other level 3 qualifications, this qualification is aimed at progression to higher education and gives students the opportunity to progress to an information technology related degree. It also enables learners to develop knowledge and skills needed for entry-level roles relating to IT, including vocational apprenticeship roles and trainee/entry-level roles such as a social media specialist, web/content developer, or business analyst.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR: It is designed for students who are interested in an introduction to the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in IT.

HOW IS THIS COURSE ASSESSED?
Students will study business in a variety of contexts (e.g. large/small, UK focused/ global, service/manufacturing) and consider the importance of the context of business in relation to decision making and how the interrelated nature of business activities will affect competitiveness. Students will study how the competitive environment and the markets in which businesses operate can affect the functional decisions and plans made. By accessing the factors that might determine whether a decision is successful e.g. the quality of data and the degree of uncertainty faced. Whilst looking at how technology is changing the way decisions are made and how businesses operate and compete within the markets. Lastly, students will assess the impact on stakeholders of functional decisions and their response to such decisions; including the use of non-quantitative and quantitative data in decision making.
In year 12 there will be two examined units, both lasting one and a half hours. Questions will be multiple choice, short answer and data response based on a case study and other stimuli.

THE COURSE Students will initially study the core concepts of what a business is; looking at key ingredients for business success, how businesses are organised, how they communicate, the characteristics of the environment in which they operate, and how this shapes them and their activities. The aim of this course is to encourage candidates to develop their knowledge and understanding of hardware, communications, software, applications and programming concepts. Skills in analysis, design, implementation and evaluation will also be studied.
This course is aimed at students with the capacity to think creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically. You will need the capacity to see relationships between different aspects of computer science. Mathematical skills related to Boolean algebra, comparison and complexity of algorithms, number representations and bases is essential.
You will also gain an understanding of, and the ability to apply, the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, decomposition, logic, algorithms and data representation. HOW IS THIS COURSE ASSESSED?
Students will study the importance of financial capability in the immediate, short, medium and long term. Looking at the different financial services and products on offer, including sources of help and advice. Students will then go on to study how to plan and manage their financial needs in the medium and long term, with particular reference to the importance of the need to budget future aspirations and life events. Students will then consider the impact which external influences have on an individual’s finances as well as looking at the concept of risk and reward, including the maintenance of financial sustainability and avoiding long-term debt. Finally, students will study the financial services system and financial sustainability.
For each year students will be assessed via two examined units each consisting of a one-hour multiple choice exam and one written exam based on a pre-released case study.

English Literature is a well-respected qualification which gives students a greater understanding of the history of the English language as well as the social, historical and political contexts in which the literature was created. There are three main areas of study: drama, poetry and prose. Students will develop their analytical and critical skills through the exploration of a modern tragic play, two prose texts from a selection of focuses (at least one of the prose texts will be pre-1900) and a selection of specified poetry from a post-2000 text.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR: This course is for students that have a desire to learn about the ever-changing world around them. They must be interested in both physical and human elements of Geography. Equally they must have an inquisitive mind and be keen to go out into the field and complete their own geographical enquiry. Students should have good written communication, but also be able to analyse and utilise data effectively.
Many students go on to study Geography at top Universities in the UK. Where Geography is not chosen as a degree, students have benefited from the subject due to its facilitating nature.

The course requires students to be able to write both shorter marked answers covering key political terms and theories, as well as extended writing answers. Students will also be expected to grasp the debates that exist around political concepts and ideas, and apply contemporary modern examples to these theories.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR: The course is for students who like to analyse how politics affects our daily lives, and how decisions made in Westminster can have both significant and in some cases long-lasting consequences both domestically and internationally. Students will learn the essential skills needed to support people with a wide range of needs, from babies and toddlers to adults and the elderly. Over two years they will gain a broad understanding and knowledge of, and skills in, the health and social care sectors.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR: This course prepares students for any vocation in the caring profession. HOW IS THIS COURSE ASSESSED?
The two key areas of study for this subject are The Tudors 1485-1603 and The American Dream: Reality and Illusion 1945-1980. The assessments are analytical essays and in-depth source assessments. In the essays, students are expected to agree or disagree with historical statements and use evidence to support and assess their claims. The source assessments relate to a study of short extracts of a historian’s work, and evaluating the claims that they make.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR: The course is for students with a passion for History who are prepared to read around the topics we study. Time management is vital due to the high emphasis on written exams. Students will be expected to speak publicly and work in groups as well as engaging in independent study outside of the classroom.

THE COURSE
HOW IS THIS COURSE ASSESSED?
The A Level Law course focuses on 3 main strands, these are: the English Legal System, the Nature of Law, Contract Law and Criminal Law. In A2 the additional topic of Human Rights is also studied. The topics involved in these strands include; nonfatal offences, murder and manslaughter, offences against property, sentencing, juries, how laws are made and concepts such as justice and morality.
YEAR 12: Students sit 2 exams: The English Legal System, the Nature of Law and Criminal Law and The English Legal System, the Nature of Law and Tort.
Students are required to demonstrate secure understanding of complex legal theory and then apply it to problem solving scenarios centred focused on criminal and contract law. Students will initially study the concept of how competitive and concentrated markets operate, working out how prices are determined in a competitive market and the issues that occur when markets fail. They will study the national economy’s place in the global context and consider how to measure economic performance and the macroeconomic policies that should be put in place.

Our vision is to create a nationally recognised, community centred youth football club that addresses all levels of education within football. The Academy programme is not just about building a successful or winning team at any age group, it will look to maximise the development of every student within the Academy. Our aims: to be one of the top five non-league Academy’s for producing first team graduates; to have match-day squads that consist of Academy graduates; to have Academy representatives to be included in the first team training squads and to have one first team debut per season in a competitive league or game fixture. If an Academy player progresses through the youth programme to play for the first team this will represent a major success for everyone involved with the programme.
Bromley Football Club have recently launched a groundbreaking post 16 girls Academy in 2018 19 in partnership with The Ravensbourne School (Education 21st Century Trust). The decision was made by Academy Director Mark Hammond due to the success of the reformed Development and Professional phase Academy which is now delivering both A Level, BTEC and F.A. qualifications. The Academy programme is a great opportunity for young talented boys and girls to follow a bespoke syllabus designed in accordance with the National Teaching Standards, National League and the Football League Elite Player Performance Plan delivered by teachers with QTS and UEFA qualified coaches.
