REACH BEYOND YOUR GRASP

WELCOME Dear Parents and Carers Welcome to The Green School for Boys. We are a new Church of England Boys School with a Science, Technology and Maths (STEM) specialism and September 2018 will see us welcome our second cohort of year 7 boys. The school is designed to inspire ambition in every boy. For a boy to fulfil his potential, in whatever sphere of life, he must “Reach Beyond His Grasp. Our school motto underpins all our policies and practices and we are ambitious for all our students, determined to provide them with the necessary skills and qualifications to enable them to progress to the next step of their future whether it be University, Apprenticeship or the world of work. Boys will leave us as well-rounded individuals, strong in their own values, well-educated and equipped to make their mark in society. We have a culture of high attainment and exceptional progress. Students are expected to work to the very best of their ability and to take pride in representing The Green School for Boys whether they are in or out of school. We have an excellent team of experienced staff and our parents and carers are supportive and work with us to ensure the very best outcomes for our boys. We are committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to excel and fulfil their potential. We take Safeguarding extremely seriously and the safety and wellbeing of our students is our key priority.

If you decide that The Green School for Boys is right for your son, please be assured that we will work with you to provide him with the best possible educational experience. The Green School for Boys opened in September 2017 and is part of The Green School Trust which also oversees the highly regarded and well established Green School for Girls (www.tgsgirls.com). These two schools share the same ethos and will work in partnership. We therefore believe we offer the best of both worlds: a single sex education suited to the learning needs of our students and a broader enrichment offer providing them the opportunity to learn from students in both schools. Information further to that in this prospectus is available on the school website www.tgsboys.com. Our Open Evening starts at 6.00pm on Tuesday 10th October. Prior to this date we also offer open day tours either at 9.00am or 11.30am on the following dates: Tuesday 3rd October and Wednesday 4th October. We would be delighted to show you around our exciting school and look forward to meeting you. Mrs Sally Yarrow, Executive Headteacher, The Green School Trust Mr Simon Carter, Head of School, The Green School for Boys

ETHOS We aim to provide a stimulating and enriching education founded on Christian values within an inclusive, multi-faith environment, where each boy is valued and motivated to reach beyond his grasp, to be strong and of good courage, to engage and learn how to contribute within today’s demanding world, to be joyful, compassionate, resilient and visionary. In particular, we aim to ensure each boy • Seeks knowledge and understanding • Aims high and organises himself to achieve • Is strong in his own values and beliefs • Is appreciative of others and their beliefs • Enjoys challenge: is confident and courageous • Is technologically literate • Engages and contributes, serving others • Is emotionally and spiritually aware • Is reflective and independent minded

Jubilate Deo Servite cum Laetitia Rejoice in the Lord and serve with gladness We place high importance on community with inclusive values which ensure that everyone, irrespective of ethnic origin, nationality, gender, ability, sexual orientation and religious and non religious beliefs can flourish. Services are conducted by the school chaplain and both staff and students are involved in leading assemblies. As a Church of England School we expect all parents and carers to support our Christian ethos.

PASTORAL We have an experienced and dedicated inclusion team who are here to support and guide our students as they progress through the school. Our Code of Conduct underpins the way students and adults behave toward others, and high value is placed on equality, integrity, tolerance, justice and honesty. Boys are expected to be ready, respectful and responsible, doing the right thing in the right place at the right time and parents and carers support us in this. Success of all kinds is celebrated and rewarded through our House point system and The Green School for Boys Pledge Programme. In addition to this there are many opportunities for boys to take on leadership roles such as serving as House or Form Captains, being a representative on the School Council or being Ambassadors for a curriculum area or sports team.

FACILITIES The Green School for Boys is at the junction of London Road and Twickenham Road, opposite The Green School for Girls and has a two phase building plan. Phase 1 is already open and consists of ten classrooms including purpose built science rooms, an art room and small group rooms. The quality of the accommodation is excellent and all classrooms contain LED screens to support our STEM specialism. Dining facilities and assemblies are held in the listed building on the site known as ‘Busch House’. During Phase 1 we are using one classroom as a fitness studio equipped with rowing machines whilst other team sports are being taught off-site. Phase 2 will be a superb purpose built permanent building situated on the same site and the school is working closely with the architects to ensure it meets the requirements for our boys.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES We believe in the value of co-curricular activities as an essential educational experience further enabling the development of character, learning habits, social skills and a sense of community. As such we have included ‘compulsory enrichment’ as part of the curriculum for Year 7 and activities include Sport, Blues Band, Rowing, Street Dance, STEM, Mindcraft and Latin to name but a few. In addition we run sports clubs, House competitions and off-site enrichment. All students participate in The Green School for Boys pledge which encourages every boy to develop character through participating in a series of challenges to gain a Bronze, Silver and Gold Award.

CURRICULUM We want all our students to excel and fulfil their potential and therefore we offer a traditionally broad and balanced curriculum with a STEM specialism, providing academic challenge combined with a rich cultural experience. In addition to the core subjects of English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Religious Education, we offer Humanities, Languages, Computer Science, Music, Drama, Art, Design Technology, Physical Education; Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education and Careers Education. Learning is creative and active. Employability skills, partnerships with the business community and a dynamic use of technology allows students to engage readily with the curriculum. Student’s progress is monitored regularly and tracked against their expected flight path. Options at GCSE will include a vocational as well as academic offer and will provide a pathway to study at Key Stage 5. We value our students as individuals and encourage them to explore their own areas of interest, take ownership of their learning and reach beyond their grasp.

SIXTH FORM Achieve | Prepare | Grow | Excel The Green School for Boys will have a Sixth Form which will offer a range of academic A levels alongside a vocational pathway. Our younger boys will receive peer mentoring from older students and will be supported in developing their future aspirations through excellent teaching, careers advice and guidance. In the Sixth Form boys will be guided towards the most suitable route for them as individuals: Oxbridge, Russell Group, newer Universities, further education institutions, Apprenticeships, other types of training and jobs with training. Academic study will be complemented by a range of enrichment activities to broaden horizons and earn UCAS points for University applications. These will include the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ); Sports Leaders Award and Duke of Edinburgh Silver/Gold. We will run a ‘Moral Maze’ programme to ensure that students think critically, analytically and philosophically about the issues in the world today as we believe it is very important to continue to provide an opportunity for ethical and moral debate for our young adults. The Student Leadership Team will play an essential role in contributing to the school and there will be plenty of Leadership opportunities for boys to take.
