Welcome to Bexhill Academy - a vibrant, dynamic school at the heart of the community of Bexhill-on-Sea. Choosing the right secondary school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make on their behalf. At Bexhill Academy we aim to exceed parents’ expectations of what a good school should offer their child. Within a welcoming and supportive environment, we provide a stimulating and engaging education, designed to give every child the chance to achieve their full potential. Having completed the refurbishment of the building in June 2016 we now have the very best facilities to provide an outstanding learning environment for your child. Aiming High At Bexhill Academy, students of all abilities are encouraged to strive to reach their full potential. Our curriculum is stimulating and diverse. It is designed to offer challenge to all abilities; stretching the minds of the most able to become enquiring and independent thinkers, yet offering support to those who find their studies to be more difficult. Students are encouraged to take risks, work creatively and make the best use of technology. We offer extensive support to those students who are gifted and talented, as well as those with Special Educational Needs, learning difficulties and / or disabilities. At Bexhill Academy we strive for excellence not only in the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, but also across all departments including subjects such as Art, Music, Drama and Physical Education. We focus on equipping our

young people with the necessary skills to make a successful progression to sixth form, wherever they should choose to go. Year 8 Graduation We firmly believe that hard work and resilience are, without doubt, the most important indicators of success. Graduation from Year 8 to Year 9 is dependent upon students demonstrating a high level of engagement with their learning and homework in all of their lessons. Truly outstanding engagement will enable students to graduate with honours We encourage all our students to be FAIR: Focussed, Aspirational, Independent and Resilient learners.




Enriching and Challenging At Bexhill Academy we believe that it is essential for our students to flourish both inside and outside the classroom. Our students are motivated and inspired by the wide ranging opportunities that are available. All students can choose to take part in a wide range of extracurricular activities from public speaking to performing arts. Bexhill Academy has also become renowned for its sporting achievements and encourages students of all sporting abilities to get involved and enjoy! We offer over 30 extracurricular clubs that students can attend. In recent years students have consolidated their learning on school trips both close to home and as far afield as France, Spain and Malaysia. Year 7 Scholarship Programme Each year we offer a number of Year 7 scholarships. Scholarships are awarded to students demonstrating excellence in the areas of Sport, Cricket, Art, Music, Drama and Academics. Details of this programme can be found on our website.


Be Remarkable Our aim is to enable students to “Be Remarkable� by working together as a community within an ethos of care, respect and responsibility. We encourage students to aim high and we support them in pursuing their dreams. With a rich and varied curriculum and a wide range of enrichment activities, the opportunities for students to flourish are unlimited. We believe that all our students need to develop a sense of community responsibility, and through our House system we encourage every student to get involved with raising money for both local and national charities. Celebrating achievement is very important at Bexhill Academy and we encourage our students to applaud one another in their successes. Each June we hold our Speech Day and Year 8 Honours Graduation ceremony at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill. This annual event celebrates the outstanding achievements of students across the Academy from Year 7 to Year 11.



Caring and Nurturing At Bexhill Academy we realise that students are more likely to flourish in a caring and supportive environment. At the very heart of the school is a kind and caring community; teachers and support staff are excellent role models and our students are encouraged to support each other.

The House System Our House system develops student leadership opportunities and creates a very distinct ethos. Our five houses (Cambridge, Imperial, Oxford, Yale and Harvard) promote a sense of pride and achievement while providing a vehicle for us to celebrate success.

Key Contacts – The Tutor Every student belongs to a vertically organised tutor group which meets once a day with their tutor. Tutor groups have been carefully organised and will stay together throughout their time at Bexhill Academy. The tutor is the first point of contact for both students and parents.

Each House has its own identity created by having a Head Boy and Head Girl, a House mascot, song, and charity. Students are encouraged to strive for excellence in all things and along the way gain points for their House. Students are placed into vertical tutor groups consisting of approximately 5

Punctuality and Attendance If your child is to achieve their full potential then it is essential that they attend school. Punctuality is also an important part of self-discipline and is essential in embedding good time management.
