Queen Elizabeth’s

6th Form

Welcome

to the 6th Form Welcome to Queen Elizabeth’s Sixth Form. The school has a long history of excellence in the Sixth Form. Located in the market town of Crediton with excellent rail and bus services means that students are easily able to reach us from Exeter and the towns in the wider area. We are also accessible to those who come from much further afield, as we are the only state boarding school in Devon and have a number of students from Germany, Spain and Hong Kong in particular who regularly study here. We offer continuity for those students who decide to stay with us, and a fresh start within a supportive, caring and friendly environment for those who join us in the Sixth Form. Our Sixth Form is about real intellectual challenge in a stimulating and well-resourced environment. We offer excellent teaching that has consistently allowed our students to make outstanding progress and gain access to the best universities. A number of our students gain places in Russell Group universities each year. Our value added is extremely high and has been consistently so for several years. Whatever our students’ starting points, they make really good academic progress with us. A dedicated team of Sixth Form tutors and academic support staff is led by the Head of Sixth Form and supported by the Assistant Head of Sixth Form, all based in College House. Our Careers team is also based here to give the best possible advice and guidance. We look forward to working with you in the future. If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.

study programmes Programmes are varied and students can choose from approximately 30 A Level courses and a handful of Level 3 BTEC courses. Our minimum entry requirement is 5 A*-C GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths and English. Some courses require grade B or above. The Pre-A study programme is designed for students who have marginally missed the required 5 A*-C GCSE qualiďŹ cations needed to progress to A Levels and is built around GCSE courses in the EBACC subjects. Full details about both pathways can be found on our website.

The Aspire programme The Aspire Programme is designed to help students who achieved excellent GCSE grades to stretch themselves academically and to aim high in their university and career aspirations. It gives them the self-confidence, skills and guidance to help them achieve their highest potential.

CAS@QE programme A key aspect of Sixth Form life at Queen Elizabeth’s is the CAS@QE enrichment programme ‒ Creativity, Action and Service at QE. We believe it is vital that students have the opportunity to broaden their experiences and skills through activities outside the classroom, whether this is in the areas of sport, art, music, drama or voluntary service. This is not only important for personal development, but contributes greatly to university applications.

16 - 19 bursary fund The 16-19 Bursary Fund is available to assist students who would otherwise find it difficult to attend Sixth Form for financial reasons. The intention is to assist as many learners as possible from the limited funds we have available. The Bursary can be used for payments and ‘in kind’ support including help towards transport costs and essential equipment related to courses of study.

What our students say... “Aside from A Levels, QE has offered excellent support with UCAS applications, particularly personal statements. My tutor helped draft my statement a number of times and all my teachers gave excellent references. I think the Sixth Form provides a very supportive and safe atmosphere for study – one in which everyone can do well with the right mindset.” Raddon

“ I chose QE Sixth Form because I felt that I would be treated as an individual; a name not a number. I have teachers that know and support me well.” Elen

“QE Sixth Form is an inspiring place for learning and I never considered any other option for my A Levels. I have enjoyed my experience here and, as well as learning, the long-standing friendships and secure feeling I’ve got from being here is second to none. I can truthfully admit I’ll miss Sixth Form life.” Sarah

“The Aspire Group sessions have strengthened the skills that we will need when applying to university (particularly for Oxbridge), such as wider reading and interview techniques. The teachers have been especially supportive whilst we were writing our personal statements, motivating us to apply early.” Johnny

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Sixth Form and I’m really reluctant to leave!” Emer
