BRAMPTON MANOR ACADEMY

SIXTH FORM

Welcome Welcome to Brampton Manor Academy Sixth Form. This is an academic sixth form, offering high quality A Level teaching. We have exceptionally high standards and have an established tradition of academic achievement. Students make exceptional progress at Brampton and we deliver outstanding A Level results. In 2015 our second cohort of A Level students achieved 63% A*-A grades, 87% A*-B grades and 98% A*-C grades. 85% of our students progressed to Russell Group universities – the highest of any provider in Newham and one of the highest Russell Group progression rates in the country. Five students progressed to Oxford or Cambridge. This is a tribute to their hard work, but also to the elements that we have put in place at Brampton Manor to ensure their success. We have: • Exceptional teachers in all subjects; • Astonishing facilities in all subjects; • A wide choice of academic A Level courses; • Small teaching group sizes; • An outstanding university guidance programme; • A diverse enrichment programme; • Bespoke work experience tailored to enhance specific university entrance requirements; • A fantastic sixth form centre; and • An ethos and culture which welcomes and supports all students.

By choosing Brampton Manor you’ll be joining a longestablished institution with a track record of success, rated as ‘Outstanding’ in every category by Ofsted. In their last visit they confirmed that: • “Students make outstanding progress” • “Teaching is outstanding because teachers have extremely high expectations” • “Students are respectful and considerate” • “Students’ behaviour is outstanding” • “There is an amazingly effective vision” In 2016 our A Level results will continue to cement our position as one of the highest achieving academic sixth forms in the United Kingdom. This is due to the commitment and dedication of our students and our staff, who are second to none. Most of our teachers are themselves top graduates of the elite Russell Group of universities to which our students aspire and together they form a highly qualified and experienced team of professionals who are experts in their fields. None of the success we continue to enjoy has happened by accident. It’s all about having the right people, the right resources and the right level of challenge and support. You now have the opportunity to join in that success. Good Luck.

We want you to do well but also to enjoy your Sixth Form experience. So you’ll find that there are plenty of social, sporting, artistic and recreational activities available to help ensure a healthy work / life balance.

These outcomes were not achieved by chance, but instead reflect the outstanding teaching from highly qualified subject specialists that students receive across the board. Our well-resourced and supervised Study Centre is available for students to use every day from 7.30am until 6pm, with private study periods included

as part of the timetable to provide you with the opportunity and facilities to engage in independent learning. Our well established university preparation programme leaves nothing to chance, offering superb guidance through the UCAS process delivered by expert tutors, UCAS Advisers and senior staff. This resulted in 85% of our 2015 leavers progressing to the prestigious Russell Group of universities; the best progression rate in the region and one of the best in the UK. We are proud of the wide range of high quality institutions our students progress to study at. In 2015 these included: • • • • • •

Birmingham Bristol Brunel Cambridge Durham Exeter

• • • • • •

Imperial Kings Liverpool LSE Manchester Oxford

• • • • • •

Queen Mary Sheffield SOAS Southampton UCL Warwick

In order to help you choose the right university we offer you dozens of opportunities to attend residential summer schools, lectures and enhancement programmes run by leading universities. Over the past year our students have successfully applied for and participated in schemes at a range of prestigious institutions, including UCL, Imperial, Durham, Nottingham and Bristol. As a Sixth Form that believes there is no limit to what you can achieve, we encourage our highest achievers to apply to Oxford or Cambridge. Our extensive Oxbridge preparation programme begins in Year 12 and includes residential trips to both universities, specialist support with admissions tests and interview workshops. In 2015 we were delighted that five of our students progressed to study at Oxford or Cambridge.

We also have a number of subject specific pathways on offer to students. For example, our medical applicants have the opportunity to complete a bespoke work experience programme alongside a Senior Consultant at Newham General Hospital, whilst for the past two years the winner of the prestigious £15,000 scholarship offered by international law firm Trowers & Hamlins has been a Brampton student! We provide tailored BMAT, UKCAT, LNAT and STEP tuition to all students who require it for their university application. In fact, whatever you aspire to do in the future, from engineering to journalism, we make it our business to help you succeed. All students are guaranteed a one week work experience placement, as well as access to hundreds of outstanding placements taking place in school holidays.

Enrichment & extra-curricular programme We want you to enjoy your time in our Sixth Form and leave us with the experiences, skills and personal qualities required to succeed in university and working life. With this in mind, every Wednesday afternoon you will participate in a timetabled enrichment session of your choice. The range of activities is vast – current options include rowing, sailing, yoga, Mandarin, football, badminton, drama, cycling, fitness, dance, swimming, charity work and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. These activities are offered to you free of charge as part of the broad education which we offer to all Brampton students. In addition, there are a range of after school clubs running every day. Some of our most popular include ‘Cooking on a Budget’, the Sixth Form musical, Chess Club and Maths Society. And if you can’t find a club

which takes your interest we’ll give you all the support you need to set up your own, enabling you to develop your leadership skills in the process. Many of our students take their hobbies to the next level by representing the school in external competitions. We are regional debating champions, having made the national final of the prestigious Oxford, Cambridge and English Speaking Union competitions in consecutive years. Our sports teams compete with great success whilst our aspiring lawyers enjoy competing in the Bar Mock Trial Competition, where they have the opportunity to present a case in a courtroom in front of a real judge.

“During these two years, Brampton has provided me with the opportunity to prosper

in my education. Not only that, I have been able to try new activities such as canoeing and sailing through recreation time.” Umme-Hani Rahman
