I like school because at break time everybody plays nicely and makes new friends YEAR 3
Welcome Welcome to Clapham and Patching C of E Primary School. We hope that the information in this prospectus will give you a helpful picture of our dynamic little school, our vision and values. Thank you for the interest you have shown in our school. We might be a small school, but we think big, and our aim is to give our children not only a good grounding academically, but as wide a variety of experiences as possible both inside and outside the classroom. Clapham and Patching is a caring school which aims to create a stimulating learning environment in which every individual has the opportunity to be the best they can be. We value our strong relationship with parents and carers. Together this helps us achieve the very best for the children in a mutually supportive partnership between parents, teachers and the school community. For this reason we continually welcome and encourage parents or carers to participate fully in the life of our school. We are in partnership with both Churches in the Parish and endeavour to make a real contribution to the life of the villages. We know that if you choose our school your child will benefit from a unique setting which provides for the individual child a rewarding and enjoyable experience, which takes them forward to become eager and effective learners for life.

It’s an experience I will never forget YEAR 6
Inner Strength We were doubting ourselves before the 02 but all the rehearsals paid off and now we know we can do it. YEAR 6 Music and singing have become a very important part of our school life. When pupils reach Year 4 and older they will learn an instrument through the West Sussex Music Service. Past pupils have learned viola, clarinet and flute. We also love to sing and have been proud to be part of the annual Carol Service held at Lancing College. As the only school invited to take part the children were undaunted by the imposing building and the size of the audience (probably ten times larger than they were accustomed to). In addition, we have sung at the O2 and the Royal Festival Hall in aid of Dr Barnados. Here are a few of the children’s comments about the O2.
It’s great because we sang at the 02 so now we know we can sing anywhere. Year 5
It was amazing because we were probably one of the smallest schools there. Year 6
We got to meet loads of different people and talk to children from different schools Year 5
Kindness
Inclusion The school has an excellent reputation for catering for every pupil’s individual needs. As soon as we identify any child whom we feel is experiencing difficulties we will contact you to discuss the steps we need to take to do as much as we can to help. Alternatively you may draw our attention to something that you are concerned about. Either way, we will consult with you at every stage of support and keep you fully informed of your child’s progress. We are an inclusive school. All our children are made to feel welcome and are valued as members of our community.
There is no need to ever be sad because help will always be given to those who ask for it YEAR 5
I like art because it looks pretty at the end YEAR 2
Patience The school is strongly inclusive and actively promotes equality of opportunity. All pupils are expected and helped to do their best, regardless of their ability. OFSTED
The children are a credit to you. LOCAL RESIDENT
Community The two village communities of Clapham and Patching are situated within the South Downs National Park, and we endeavour to be as much part of the life of the two villages as we can. We regularly use the Village Hall and its adjoining field for P.E. and games sessions, clubs and Sports day. In addition, we take groups of children up to the local woodland to look at the changing seasons and any evidence of wildlife. The children sing at Christmas to the residents of Clapham Lodge, a local care home and also at the Annual Christmas Meal held for long standing residents of the villages.
The Christmas Meal was lovely, but hearing the children sing was the icing on the cake. LOCAL RESIDENT
This is a school that truly embraces the concept of ‘Listening to the voice of the child.’ All areas of life at Clapham and Patching C of E Primary School permeate the view that the child’s thoughts, feelings and strengths are a significant priority. It is an honour to work in such an environment. Play therapist
