Throughout the Sixth Form we will support you with high quality information, advice and guidance. Both schools offer a comprehensive careers programme. We organise visits to conferences, skills shows and trips to university open days, in addition to other enrichment opportunities both on and off site. In Year 13 students receive extensive support with university applications or help with applying for apprenticeships or employment.

Introduction
This Fine Art course is designed to encourage you to develop skills, creativity, imagination and independence based on personal experience, taught skills and critical understanding. You will show this through your responses to a range of stimuli. It provides you the opportunity to take a personal interest in why art matters and to be inspired through a wide variety of scales, media and resources. This is a predominantly practical course with a related study.

Introduction
Do you want to be part of one of the fastest growing industry sectors in the UK economy? Then you need to get involved in the creative and media industries, and studying Photography will take you there.
You will be introduced to a variety of experiences exploring a range of photographic techniques, styles and genres, including: portraiture, documentary, photojournalism, landscape and experimental imagery. You will develop technical understanding relating to the composition of images and an ability to explore the different elements of visual language.
You are expected to have access to a digital camera, iPhone or similar.

Introduction
Design and Technology is a creative and imaginative subject, focusing on the design and production world. We look at where global demands and materials come from and how supply and demand can affect the production and use of products, right through to the end user and how they dispose of a product. It’s a great course to explore your creative avenues through using a wide variety of skills and equipment to a high level.
Course Content
• Use creativity and imagination when applying iterative design processes to develop and modify designs, and to design and make prototypes that solve real world problems, considering their own and others’ needs, wants, aspirations and values.
• Students will be able to integrate and apply their understanding and knowledge from Key Stage 4 Design and Technology, with a focus on Mathematics and Science for analysis and informing decisions in design, whilst being open to taking design risks which show innovation and enterprise.
• Within the Independent Design and Make Project, students will undertake a substantial design, make and evaluate project. At A Level, this will be of their choice. At AS they will respond to one of the contextual challenges. They will create a prototype, by which is meant
an appropriate working solution to a need or want that is sufficiently developed to be tested and evaluated; this could be a full-sized product or a scaled working model or functioning system.

Future Opportunities
Design and Technology is a practical and valuable subject.
It enables people to actively contribute to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of themselves, their community and their nation. It teaches how to take risks and so become more resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable. Students develop a critical understanding of the impact of design and technology on daily life and the wider world.
Additionally, it provides excellent opportunities for students to develop and apply value judgements of an aesthetic, economic, moral, social, and technical nature both in their own designing and when evaluating the work of others in the world we live in today and in the future.

Business A Level is a far reaching course that covers many aspects of the business world. You will develop a critical understanding of organisations and their ability to meet society’s needs and wants. You will also explore that business behaviour can be studied from a range of perspectives.

• Theme 1: Meeting customer needs, the market, marketing mix and strategy, managing people, entrepreneurs and leaders.
• Theme 2: Raising finance, financial planning, managing finance, resource management, external influences.
• Theme 3: Business objectives and strategy, business growth, decisionmaking techniques, influences on business decisions, assessing competitiveness, managing change.
• Theme 4: Globalisation, global markets and business expansion, global marketing, global industries and companies (multinational corporations).

Future Opportunities
At the end of the course you may continue to study Business or a related subject such as Marketing, Law, Retail Management, Human Resource Management or Accountancy and Finance in Higher Education or in a Higher Apprenticeship. The course will help your understanding of how businesses operate and the concepts learnt will be helpful for when applying for work for companies in both the UK and abroad. BTEC Business enables students to develop creative and analytical thinking through investigating businesses, their products, services, customers and day-to-day activities.
The Extended Certificate is for learners who are interested in learning about the business sector alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses. The transferable skills learnt ensure many different courses are accessible including Higher Apprenticeships.

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Information Technology has a varied style of study and this qualification is designed for learners who are interested in an introduction to the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information, alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in IT.
This course will give the student a sound knowledge of the fundamental areas of designing, creating and maintaining database systems together with the use of social media in business.
The Certificate is equivalent to 0.5 of an A Level qualification and the Extended Certificate is equivalent to one A Level.

Computer Science is a practical subject where students can apply the academic principles learned in the classroom to real-world systems. It’s an intensely creative subject that combines invention and excitement, and can look at the natural world through a digital prism. The aims of this qualification are to enable learners to develop:

Previous BTEC work has included the Christmas Pantomime, performances at The Deco & Derngate theatres and Theatre in Education performances working with local Primary and Secondary Schools, as well as Northamptonshire Safeguarding teams.
Other opportunities have included showcase opportunities, workshops with practitioners such as Frantic Assembly, Paper Birds and choreographers from ‘Six’ the musical, Community Arts projects and participation in the National Theatre Connection festival.
Many of our students go on to study Acting, Performing Arts or Production at Drama School or University, however this course also fully equips students to go directly into the world of work within the performing arts or entertainment industry.

Introduction
A Level English Literature and Language is a pivotal subject that enables students to build awareness of literary knowledge, literary history, literary theory and linguistics and analysis of the world around us. An academic subject, which lends itself to independent reading, set texts for the course, creative writing and context work. It demands drive and commitment to keep up with the pace, however the hard work and dedication will pay off as it is a subject that opens many doors for the future in terms of employment, further education and training.
The qualification develops students’ ability to apply and integrate linguistic and literary approaches to a wide range of spoken and written texts. The texts are from different periods and include prose, poetry, drama and non-literary texts.

“I have enjoyed being in the Sixth Form ever since I started in September. It is very different from GCSE as you are able to go to lessons from different schools (Rushden Academy and Huxlow) and the two years you are a part of TENC are focused on three or four subjects that you are really interested in. As well as lessons, Sixth Form students have free periods which enable them to study or spend some time with friends. Our common room also includes a kitchen and outdoor area to give students the chance to take breaks between classes.”
