A GREAT CHOICE OF SUBJECTS TO STUDY

INDEPENDENT LEARNING

Studio 6 offers a wide range of Advanced General Certificate Education (A Level) and BTEC courses.

To succeed in Sixth Form, students need to develop excellent independent learning skills, which will also give a firm foundation for university study and future employment.

A Level qualifications are two year courses and represent the pinnacle of academic excellence in Post 16 learning. An AS exam, as a separate qualification, can be sat at the end of the first year of study. Both courses demand a high level of exam proficiency.

We ensure students have the right tools to succeed. They have access to a tailored online learning platform, ‘Moodle’ which mean Studio 6 course resources are accessible anywhere and anytime.

We also offer a wide range of vocational based subjects at BTEC Level 3, which are comprised of coursework and examinations. Depending on the subject, BTECs are offered at Extended Certificate, Diploma and Extended Diploma level. We are a superb choice for students wishing to study either academic or vocational courses, or a combination of both. Over the past few years, many of our Studio 6 graduates have embarked upon degree courses at Russell Group Universities. All our students benefit from a fully structured timetable and can study up to four options. Our students demonstrate high levels of motivation and hard work; the reality is that Sixth Form study is demanding and we have very high expectations. Students who have not achieved a Grade 4 or better in English and mathematics GCSE are now also required to continue to study English and/or mathematics post 16. Entry to Studio 6 is open to all students who meet the entry requirements for their chosen subjects and want to work hard in pursuit of their dreams. A full list of courses and their entry requirements are provided in the insert. 3

ENRICHING YOUR EXPERIENCE IN

Studio 6

The Futures Programme It is a fact of life that great grades are not enough to succeed in the modern world. Therefore, we have developed a unique course which is exclusive to us called the Futures Programme. The course is designed to give students the knowledge, skills and confidence to be successful. Students explore career pathways and gain greater confidence in developing their employability and interpersonal skills, whilst working in partnership with a wide range of local businesses, universities and community programmes. Within this enrichment curriculum, some Year 12 students will follow ‘The Inspiration Programme’ run by Action4Youth. It has six pillars giving students the opportunity to work with arts and cultural organisations, charities, businesses, the armed forces and the police and criminal justice system.

A wide range of opportunities to help you succeed As part of Creative Education Trust, we believe that creativity is the ability to recognise and make new connections between the things we know. Furthermore, that connecting knowledge needs to be at the heart of education because it is vital to improving standards and will make young people resourceful and employable in tomorrow’s knowledge economy. Our specialism in Business and Enterprise means that students studying at Studio 6 have a superb range of additional opportunities they can embrace, such as work placements, internships, and the chance to get involved in enrichment activities including Young Enterprise, Deloitte TMT Predictions Challenge, work experience, volunteering, summer schools and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Students also compete against other Creative Education Trust schools in activities such as essay writing, photography, public speaking and design projects. We have strong links with many national and international businesses based in Milton Keynes, for example Deloitte, Niftylift, Metro Bank, VW Financial Services and Network Rail. These links have helped us to find work placements and paid summer internships for our students. We are committed to ensuring that you will leave the Academy with a rich and varied curriculum vitae that will help you follow your chosen path.

SUPERB FACILITIES DESIGNED WITH YOU IN MIND The Milton Keynes Academy has fantastic facilities for our students to use. We are a purpose built school that engages and challenges our students to use technology to make rapid progress in their learning in modern and exciting ways. Opened in 2009, we are still upgrading our facilities; this year we have a new restaurant, six new science laboratories, a new visitor entrance and our very own gym.

“Strong role models, combined with effective careers advice, mean pupils have clear routes to employment, education and training when they leave school” OFSTED NOVEMBER 2017

Learning throughout the school is underpinned and strengthened by the extensive use of up-to-date technology, to ensure that students are equipped to embrace the challenges of a fast changing world. A good quality dance studio, and a range of performance spaces means Sixth Form students can embrace performing arts and music, whilst cutting edge editing facilities and a ‘green room’ mean budding directors are well catered for. If art and design is your passion, outstanding modern facilities mean that students can also excel in these subjects. Equally, those with a love for sports are generously catered for. In the Sixth Form, you will additionally have access to a wide a range of IT equipment, including the use of an IT suite in Studio 6. Our online learning platform ensures you have access to all your course materials.
