UNLOCKING POTENTIAL FOR LIFE
The staff are very approachable and have a clear desire to work together with parents to help us achieve the best for our children. This is a breath of fresh air and very much appreciated.
As an inclusive and stimulating school we offer a range of high-quality learning experiences that provide our students with an outstanding and supportive education from their very first day.
The opening of our purpose built school and site ensures that all students and staff have access to the very best facilities and resources available, removing any barriers to educational progress. The universal values of justice, love and respect form a firm moral foundation to build upon. In our over-subscribed, hardworking school, students develop a real determination to make the most of the opportunities provided and feel supported at each step as they develop into confident, articulate and academically successful young people.
Every student deserves a happy, positive environment in which to learn. Our goal is to strive to achieve the happiness of every child in our care. That is why we offer outstanding opportunities that help our students achieve their full potential throughout their time here. We also ensure that our students feel safe and benefit from high quality relationships with their peers, teachers and support staff. Our students are constantly encouraged to develop their unique talents and to shape their futures through their own efforts and initiative.
Our nationally recognised “Character Development Programme” ensures our students are prepared to cope
with any stressors that may arise in their lives - either now or in the future. We consider the development of strong character traits such as “stickability”, self-regulation and empathy as having equivalent worth to the achievement of academic success in ensuring that our young people are prepared for their life ahead. We want our students to understand that it is only through sustained and lasting effort and their own endeavours that they can realise deep satisfaction and fulfilment.
As a national lead school in the development of character, we provide support and guidance to other schools and have been invited to inform policy development at the Department of Education (DfE) in recognition of our success in this field - we are the only school nationally to have received a DfE Character Award and the Character Kitemark Plus Award from the University of Birmingham Jubilee Centre. We are determined to ensure our students develop wisdom and common sense in order to ensure they make the best choices in life based on an established foundation of clearly understood morals and virtues.
We value the different personalities that shape our school community. The education we provide is tailored to suit
individuals, giving everyone the best chance to succeed. We believe that humans are fundamentally social creatures and actively seek the approval and company of those around them. We provide opportunities to develop wide ranging social skills and emotional intelligence, allowing our students to lead a fulfilling, socially responsible and happy life.
We recognise the crucial role which parents have to play in the education of their children. The continued success of this school is based on a positive partnership between parents and school. The active involvement of parents in the life of the school brings a special warmth and vitality to our community. I am particularly proud of the quality and magnitude of the contributions that our parents make - it is one of our many strengths.
I am determined that each student at Kings Langley School will be able to reflect on their years at the school as being a period of happiness and personal fulfilment. I know that the governing body, teaching and support staff share my commitment in achieving this goal.
Mr David Fisher BSc (Hons), NPQH HeadteacherWe offer all our students a wide variety of activities which enhance our curriculum, both in and out of the classroom such as international trips, overnight visits, day trips, outside speakers and conferences.
These are planned not only to advance the students’ academic abilities and talents, but to help grow and develop them into well rounded people who can contribute to and appreciate the world around them.
There is an extensive extra-curricular programme which allows students to express and foster skills and talents. The programme includes a wide range of sporting activities (including facilitating a range of successful sports teams) and promoting the arts through drama, music and creative activities. We also offer a wide range of further opportunities such as the formula 24 kit car club, debating society, jewellery making, creative writing, cooking, photography and the popular “Dungeons and Dragons” club to name but a few, along with a huge range of sporting clubs and opportunities. We regularly consult students and in response to their feedback adapt the programme to their needs and desires as we want all students to feel that they can participate.
Character development is central to our ethos and culture, we look beyond school and encourage students to engage with the
community through social action and volunteering programmes. We actively encourage students to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme with many students achieving the bronze and progressing onto silver awards. Many charity events are held with the school regularly raising money for local and national causes, as well as more practical activities such as collecting food and goods for the local charities.
We are extremely proud of our successes within different disciplines such as sports teams, drama productions, music evenings and charity events and we actively encourage the full range of students to get involved. We believe that these experiences are crucial to broadening students’ cultural capital, which in turn amplifies their knowledge and understanding within the curriculum areas. It is also important to us for students to be able to “test” their character virtues in practical situations. Regardless of the experiences students have had prior to joining our school, our aim is for students to exploit as many of the opportunities as they can, to ensure they have obtained experiences that enhance their future paths.
I would say to anyone coming to KLS that it is an amazing place. I was both nervous and excited about joining Year 7, but I soon made friends and I love the fact there are so many extracurricular activities to do.

I have a real sense of hope about my future and so glad I made this choice of school.
A caring school that is not all about academic prowess, but will strive to enable children to achieve their best and not give up.
Throughout my time at school, I have received great pastoral support, especially in Year 7. If I ever felt nervous or anxious about something I could go to any member of staff and receive help.
Since starting at the school, I have been greatly impressed by the staff support and encouragement of my daughter and the confidence they have instilled in her to embrace all the school has to offer.
There are a huge array of activities and opportunities on offer at school, whether you’re a person who is sporty, danceorientated, musical, academic or just enjoys being with others, I can guarantee there is something fit for you at Kings Langley School.
Tailoring provision to the needs of individual students is at the heart of the excellent education we offer.
We nurture and develop individuals regardless of ability or aptitude, through careful tracking and mentoring. It is our aim to develop a unique and clear understanding of each child, discovering their aspirations and dreams.
We are proud of the advances we are making in regular and accurate assessment of learning progress, in order that we might intervene at an early stage to provide either additional challenge or individual assistance in order that each child will realise their potential. Regular and honest communication with both parents and students allows development of an effective three-way partnership which places the needs of the child as its central focus. Our varied and extensive rewards programme permits all students to revel in the enjoyment of success, recognising both academic and personal progress.
Public examination results in a diverse range of subjects, were “significantly above national average” and indicators measuring student progress showed that many of our students achieved above expectations, regardless of their cultural background. Ofsted have praised the renewed focus on literacy and numeracy that will support the work that all staff undertake to provide the very best provision for students.
