WELCOME At Brook 6th Form & Academy we offer an incredibly exciting educational experience to young people aged 14-19 in East London and Essex who are interested in Media, Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. In addition to studying Media and STEM subjects alongside the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), students benefit from the use of world-class facilities to develop practical skills in Engineering and Media. Maths and science subjects are delivered by subject specialists with a focus on practical as well as theoretical knowledge. From the start of Year 12 we aim to begin preparing students for the next stage of their educational career, whether that is University or Apprenticeship, ensuring that all of our students develop the knowledge and skills required for their next steps destination.
Students who join Brook 6th Form & Academy will have a keen interest and passion in Media, Science, Engineering and Maths. Our science subjects include: Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science. Additional curriculum time is created in these key subject areas to ensure that students make excellent progress and have the opportunity to carry out practical activities. Engineering is a key subject within the Sixth Form. Students are provided with the opportunity to work closely with Ford as one of our main sponsors, along with other employers in the world of engineering.
The curriculum is designed in collaboration with industrial partners and sponsors and this enables us to deliver the skills and qualifications that are required by industry and top universities. Whilst life after Sixth Form seems a long way off for potential Year 12 students, it is reassuring to know that our students have progressed to prestige universities such as Bristol, Loughborough, Queen Mary and Warwick, as well as leading employers, namely, Ford, Airbus, HS2, Network Rail, National Grid, Bank of America and NTT.
Whilst there is a strong focus on Engineering at Brook 6th Form & Academy, Media, Science and Maths subjects are of equal importance. Aiming for nothing less than achieving academic excellence, A-Level teachers, supported by the pastoral team, also ensure that Brook 6th Form & Academy students are happy and enjoy their learning. There is a strong support team, who in addition to arranging engaging extra-curriculum activity, also provide mentoring, guidance and support to all our students ensuring that they enjoy their Sixth Form experience and progress to the destination of their choice.

CURRICULUM Underpinning the Brook 6th Form & Academy curriculum is our vision for high quality technical and academic teaching and learning, in our specialisms of Media, Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Increased time will be available within the extra-curricular programme, to develop enthusiasm, interest and engagement in these specialist areas; resulting in all students gaining depth in skills, knowledge and understanding in these key subjects. A-Level pathway: Maths, Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science and Product Design. Engineering pathway: T-Level in Engineering, BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering or Technical Baccalaureate. Combined Engineering pathway: BTEC Diploma in Engineering alongside A-Level Maths. There is the option for some students to also study A-Level Further Maths. Digital Media pathway: T-Level Media Production. There is the option for some students to also study A-Level Computer Science. Extended Project Qualification (EPQ): Level 3 students complete EPQ alongside their course of study. Level 2: Engineering qualification.
THE SIXTH FORM DAY
DESTINATIONS
The Academy Sixth Form day begins at 8.30am for all students, with the all-important Form time. An allocated Form Tutor provides pastoral support and ensures that students are ready to learn at the start of each day. Lessons are one to two hours in length and frequently include an element of practical learning. There are two 30 minute breaks during the day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Formal teaching is complete by 3pm, with extra-curricular activities and subject specific intervention offered between 3.00-3.30/3:45pm. Lunch is provided daily in the Academy canteen. Brook 6th Form & Academy operates Parent Pay.
A key area of strength for Brook 6th Form & Academy is the destinations of its students. Following success in their A-Levels or Technical qualification, Brook 6th Form & Academy student progress to some excellent destinations which include Russell Group Universities and Apprenticeships with world leading employers. Year 12 students are provided with support and guidance throughout the year to complete their University and or apprenticeship application including talks by leading employers and universities on how to complete a successful application.
Brook 6th Form & Academy values the employer experience. Whilst academic progress and qualifications is of upmost importance, students also learn greatly from opportunities provided outside of the classroom. Brook 6th Form students will have the privileged position of working with the researchers in the UCL PEARL building (located next door to the Academy). Each year a group of students from each year group will benefit from the role of UCL PEARL Ambassadors. This is in-addition to designated projects which will involve use of the facilities and working closely with the UCL PEARL staff. Not only will this provide students with a valuable employer engagement experience, it will also provide the students with exposure to world leading human research facilities.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES We believe that every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability or circumstances. Extension activities greatly enhance our students’ academic performance. They provide an opportunity for students to mix with their peers from other year groups and work on projects or partake in sports or hobbies, some of which they may never have had the opportunity to try before. THE FUTURE Engineers, scientists, technologists, designers, animators, coders are modern day superheroes and as such, must be ready for anything in an increasingly technology-depended world. Using maths, science, knowledge, creativity, curiosity and ingenuity in practical ways, they design, invest and create the most remarkable physical achievements and significant advancements known to humanity. They are some of the most creative people on earth and make our lives better, easier, more affordable, efficient and fun by solving everyday problems. Almost everything you touch has been influenced or designed by a scientist or an engineer, directly or indirectly. We are located a short walking distance (approx. 5min) from Dagenham East station on the District line.
BY BUS
The 174 operates every 8 minutes from Harold Hill via Romford and drops off at the rear of the academy. The 364 runs from High Road (Ilford) and operates every 12 minutes via Dagenham East bus stop. The 103 bus operates every 9 minutes from Chase Cross Road (Romford) and stops at Dagenham East station via Rainham station.
Ample cycle racks are provided on the campus for students travelling by bicycle.
We can be accessed via the A1112 (Rainham South Road) which connects to the A1306 and A13, which in turn provides access to central London with plenty of parking for drop off and at the rear of our building next to the May and Baker Sports and Social Club. For satellite navigation RM7 0QX postcode could be used and will direct you to our rear car park which will be only a few minutes walking distance to our school.
