REDNOCK SCHOOL

Thank you for your interest in Rednock 6th Form. Students are in the process of making exciting decisions about their future options. This prospectus shows what Rednock 6th Form has to offer an exciting, challenging and stimulating environment in which to achieve both personal and academic goals. Our prospectus sets out our provision both academic, social and pastoral. Our offer is unique; we tailor our response to individuals so that everyone is supported, because we embody Rednock’s ethos that 'everyone matters'. The rounded 6th Form experience we offer, affords our students the opportunity to hone their interests, personal qualities and interpersonal skills - essential characteristics to take them into adult life and to succeed in the careers to which they aspire. Our high quality tutoring and mentoring programme supports students whilst allowing them to develop their capability to work and study independently.

Rednock 6th Form has a long history of success with students going on to the Russell Group of Universities as well as other universities, colleges and apprenticeships. We have developed links with a range of these institutions over recent years and this will continue to grow in the years to come. Our students are supported to demonstrate the necessary competences and qualities to progress to Higher Education establishments, enter the world of work, join apprenticeship schemes or access internships. We are extremely proud of our school and believe that we have much to offer 6th Form students in a co-educational, comprehensive setting. We aim to deliver a quality and fulfilling educational experience in partnership with students, parents / carers and the community to ensure success. I look forward to welcoming you to our vibrant 6th Form community. Demelza Barker Head of 6th Form Provision | Assistant Head Teacher

ENTRY CRITERIA ENTRY TO YEAR 12

CHOOSING THE RIGHT COURSE Rednock 6th Form is a place where students can seize a wide range of opportunities, developing themselves as creative, resourceful and independent learners. The subjects students choose to study in the 6th Form should continue to develop their strengths and support their future career aspirations. We want students to enrol on a course on which they will be most successful and which will allow them to fulfil their potential and achieve their goals. Rednock 6th Form is a vibrant environment offering a wide range of learning opportunities. Students can opt for a variety of different qualifications depending on the curriculum pathway that they choose to follow, including a one-year Employability Course that includes a range of Level 2 and 3 qualifications focusing on the key skills of literacy, numeracy and ICT. Our 6th Form curriculum is designed to be broad, balanced and flexible, meeting the needs of every student and ensuring progression routes for all.

REDNOCK SCHOOL

Entry requirements vary depending on the course in which students wish to enrol. At Rednock everyone matters and we have a variety of pathways to suit students with a range of grade profiles, from those who wish to study three or four A Levels, to those embarking on our one year Employability Pathway. Students will need to have a good record of attendance and punctuality and to have shown continuing progress. Each individual course has an expected entry grade at GCSE as indicated in the 6th Form Admission Information Booklet. There will be compulsory transition work, to be completed during the summer break for each subject. A Level courses can only run if there is a viable number of students opting for them. Having chosen to enter the 6th Form, students are expected to have a positive attitude towards their work as well as good attendance. Progress is monitored at regular intervals and targets will be set and reviewed in consultation with the students’ tutors during one-to-one mentoring sessions. Students and their parents / carers are expected to attend the Parent Consultation Meetings together in Year 12 and 13.

PROGRESS AND ENTRY TO YEAR 13 To continue into Year 13, students are expected to make positive progress towards their academic targets, measured by performance across the year and in the summer Pre-public Exams (PPE). Independent learning is vital for the success of every student in 6th Form. At Rednock School, our expectation is that students will be fully engaged with their chosen subjects. A passion for the study of these subjects should drive the students to explore them thoroughly, using a range of resources to grasp opportunities before them.

A key element of our academic and pastoral success is our tutorial system. Tutor groups are separate for Year 12 and 13. Tutors support students through the process of applying to universities, apprenticeships or employment and are fully committed to offering informed and impartial advice. All 6th Form students will follow an extensive Enrichment programme, delivered by their tutor and dedicated staff. Tutor sessions are used to explore relevant areas of personal development and for providing information and advice on careers and post-18 pathways. Students benefit from excellent advice, guidance and support, not only from their tutor, who they see every day, but also from members of the specialist 6th Form Leadership Team. We have an open door policy so that students can talk to a member of the 6th Form Team at any time - we do not want any student to leave at the end of the day with a problem. Help is always available.

SUPERVISED STUDY Supervised study periods are overseen by a dedicated member of staff, ensuring that this time is used effectively by our 6th Form students. Our study supervisor will support students in establishing study routines and managing their workload, as well as liaising with subject staff. One-to-one mentoring from subject experts is also used to ensure that every student has the support to reach their potential. Students are able to bring their own laptops into school to access their work and we also have Chromebooks available to 6th Form students to ensure they have a wealth of up-to-date resources at their fingertips.

THE 6TH FORM EXPERIENCE Every student making the transition from Year 11 to 6th Form is ready to grow, to become a young adult and claim full ownership of, and responsibility for, their own learning lives. We will support them in this process, providing the guidance and expertise that will allow them to increase awareness of their strengths and areas for development. In doing so, we will help students reach their goals, both in the present and for the future. We recognise that the journey to become a successful adult is not only made in the classroom. We are committed to providing a full range of extra-curricular opportunities, including the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) Ambassador scheme, cultural enrichment trips, 6th Form Committee and fundraising events.

PLACING ENRICHMENT AND COMMUNITY AT THE HEART OF THE 6TH FORM EXPERIENCE Every student will be expected to show a commitment to volunteering, work experience and wider experiences. There are a range of opportunities for students to access within school, working as part of the school community, as well as outside in the local community. This wider involvement is what sets out 6th Form and school apart from others and prepares our students for the next steps in their lives.

STUDENT FACILITIES 6th Form students are key leaders within the school, playing a full part in helping to create a cohesive and forward-thinking learning environment. Their prominence in the Rednock School Community is reflected in them being based in their own spaces, which feature excellent facilities to support a range of working styles. The 6th Form Atrium area is a dedicated study area, with access to a large number of Chromebooks as well as an ‘Intensive Study Room’ for silent working. The 6th Form Centre includes a large

Common Room - a modern, contemporary space with fantastic facilities and a real sense of community - and a garden, both of which provide areas to work in groups or with a ‘study buddy’. The 6th Form Cafe in the Common Room serves hot and cold food and drinks throughout the day. 6th Form students also have a dedicated area in the Learning Resource Centre and are often found working in department areas during their study period time. We support all of our students to develop effective study habits which will enable them to achieve their full potential.
