• We appreciate the individuality that each of our children bring and aim to provide bespoke challenge and aspirational opportunities for children to achieve their full potential, wherever their talents lie and regardless of starting points. Our children engage in fun, inspiring and high-quality learning experiences and opportunities. • A harmonious and nurturing environment gives our children the stability and opportunity to take risks in their learning within a courageous classroom. • Staff and leaders are passionate and committed to providing an excellent education for the children in their care and will strive in a persistent effort to have the highest expectations for all. • All members of the St Michael’s community strive to respect themselves, respect all those around them, the environment that they are in and their contribution to the wider community. • We aim for all of our children to feel inspired in their learning and engaged as future learners to reach their full potential. We want them to feel confident, showing independence in the challenges they face in their learning with the courage to take risks and change the world around them.

“The school’s vision impacts on the lives of pupils and the community, offering love, acceptance and care to all.” SIAMs

Curriculum Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to provide a holistic education. We are proud to offer children an inspiring curriculum that allows them to extend and deepen their thinking across the full range of subjects. Our wider curriculum provides children with the opportunity to know and remember more, about both subject matter and inspiring individuals linked to each curriculum area. Children at St Michael’s embark on a journey of discovery that encourages curiosity and critical thinking. Where children find accessing the curriculum a challenge, teachers are skilled in using adaptive teaching to make tricky concepts accessible and break learning down into small steps. Through carefully thought out and timely assessments, children’s understanding is checked and any gaps in learning are identified and addressed. Beyond the classroom, the curriculum promotes physical well-being, teamwork and cultural appreciation which develops nurturing and well-rounded individuals.

Performance & Results “In this vibrant school community, our dedicated staff strive to illuminate every child’s path, making Rossington a place where greatness is not just taught; it’s discovered and celebrated every day.” DSAT’s CEO

Here at St. Michael’s, we are incredibly proud of our results! Our Year 6 SATs results are consistently higher than the national average. For a number of years, we have secured the highest attainment results in the local area. We give all of our children the best opportunity to make the most progress and reach their full potential. We do this through knowing our children, providing them with focused and bespoke learning opportunities, as well as regular assessment so that ‘no child is lost in the averages’. Our Phonics achievements were specifically mentioned in our latest OFSTED report, ‘Teachers move pupils onto the next stage of their learning at a rapid pace.’ This enables our children to experience a wide range of books and open their curious minds to the world around them.

“Leaders have high expectations for all pupils.” OFSTED

EYFS & Nursery At St Michael’s, our aim is to provide a high quality and exciting Early Years curriculum enabling all children to have the very best start to their school life. We base our learning around the 7 areas of learning. The curriculum is designed to provide high quality, first hand experiences which will fire the imagination and create an ongoing love of learning. We firmly believe that the learning environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development. We are proud to provide a secure and stimulating environment with access to a dedicated EYFS outdoor area enabling exploration, problem solving and active learning in both planned and free choice learning. In our Nursery provision, children can attend for 15 hours (fully funded). There is an option for eligible families to top-up the number of hours in school to 30 hours. We are pleased to offer the option for families that do not qualify for the full 30 hours to opt to extend their children’s hours by paying for additional sessions, where available.

Personal Development Rossington St Michael’s is a nurturing school that believes in children being able to be the best version of themselves and we pride ourselves in providing an environment where children feel safe and secure to take risks with their learning. Our commitment to ‘daring and courageous classrooms’ ensures that all children are confident in discussing subjects, completing group work and offering their contribution to whole class discussions. We recognise and value the personal health and resilience of our children and that sometimes these can be barriers to learning and children thriving. In order to support this, we have a highly experienced and full time learning mentor who helps children experiencing difficulties. Through the power of relationships, we get to know every child in school and do what we can to support children’s individual learning needs. In addition to quality first teaching, we run a range of specific, targeted and effective interventions to help children who face difficulties with their learning. All staff have high expectations of all children and want every child to reach their full potential. St Michael’s has always been a school ‘for families’ and our inclusion team are always there to support all families in removing barriers.

Expressive & Creative Arts Opportunities We provide our children with many diverse opportunities within the arts. Our varied PE curriculum allows the children to experience a number of sports, dances and gymnastics. Our Art and Design & Technology lessons give our pupils practical first-hand experiences in order to enhance their fine motor skills and develop a number of sketching, painting, printing, designing and making techniques. We pride ourselves with the variety of afterschool clubs we offer including Taekwondo and Basketball taught by expert instructors. We also have dance clubs before school with our highly qualified dance teacher. We are blessed at this school to have such a strength in music. We have 2 expert teachers who provide the children with the opportunity to learn a number of instruments. Each year, Year 5 and 6 have the chance to go to ‘Young Voices’ which is a national choir event held in Sheffield.

Wrap Around Care At St Michael’s, we understand the needs of working parents and are pleased to offer wraparound care provided by ‘Hoglets’ (private wraparound care provider). Hoglets are based within school, enabling strong communication to be maintained between home and school and ensuring that transition between their care and school is smooth. Hoglets provide before school care from 7:30am to 8:40am (breakfast included) and after school care from 3:10pm to 5:45pm (light tea included).

Our Christian Community St. Michael’s is a strong, committed school and part of a Christian community, where we work hard to celebrate each other’s faith and uniqueness. Our Christian ethos underpins a secure and supportive community. Prayer is interwoven throughout the school day as we seek to educate and support every child in every aspect of school life. We have close links with the Church, which is situated opposite school, and every week we have members of the Church visiting school to lead assemblies or worship.

“I love working with the children in St Michael’s and look forward to engaging with them in collective worship. They’re always so enthusiastic and eager to join in.” REVEREND NEIL

“The Rossington leadership team is committed to educating, inspiring, nurturing curiosity, and fostering a love for learning.” DSAT’S CEO

Your Involvement & Engagement Rossington St Michael’s is committed to providing the very best education for our children. We understand that as parents, you are the child’s first and most enduring care-givers and educators. We recognise the importance of establishing and maintaining good relationships with you and strive to promote a three-way working relationship between school, parents and children. Throughout the year, we plan a variety of different parental events for you to engage in your child’s learning and come in to school. We welcome you to be as involved as you can be in school life.

DSAT - Our Trust We are proud to be a part of the Diocese of Sheffield Academies Trust (DSAT). DSAT is a growing group of 17 schools who support and challenge each other to ensure the very best provision is offered and we work in partnership with other schools. DSAT was established in October 2013 as an independent charitable company set up by the Sheffield Diocesan Board of Education. DSAT believes that schools must serve their community and meet the needs of their children. What works best cannot be a ‘one size fits all’ approach - a school’s local leadership must decide the best approach for their children and community. DSAT has the view that schools should be a happy and safe place where no child should get lost in the averages. A high performing school must deliver for everyone.
