BRINGING OUT THE BEST

WELCOME Three Rivers Academy is a GOOD school that brings out the best in every student.

Three Rivers Academy is a vibrant, caring and inspiring school. Learning is at the heart of everything that we do and we believe that every child should flourish and enjoy their time with us. We are proud of our inclusive ethos and high expectations, which we expect the whole school community to embrace. Our students and staff enjoy access to spacious, modern and outstanding facilities. Since joining The Howard Partnership Trust (THPT) in 2016, the school has gone from strength to strength and is now the school of choice in the local community. We are committed to developing and fostering excellent relationships with all stakeholders including parents, Governors and our community. We were delighted that the school’s rapid improvement journey was recognised in the Ofsted report from May 2019 when the school was judged to be GOOD in every category. As Principal my aim is for all students to flourish during their time at Three Rivers Academy by enjoying high-quality teaching, a challenging and robust curriculum and enrichment opportunities that will develop a love for learning both within and beyond the classroom. Our talented and committed staff are dedicated to “bringing out the best” in all our students, enabling them to achieve more than they ever thought they could.

Miss Barbara Mayaire

I encourage all prospective parents to visit our school and meet the students and staff. We look forward to welcoming you and will be very proud to share with you our achievements to date and our exciting plans.

OUR ETHOS, VISION AND VALUES Three Rivers Academy will excel at “bringing out the best” in students of all abilities and so increase their life chances for their future success and fulfilment.

We aim: • to develop self-esteem in all students • to challenge all students to achieve their best • to encourage positive behaviour, individual responsibility and ambition • to provide a happy, safe, caring and inclusive environment that values each individual and promotes respect and consideration for others • to prepare students to become confident and responsible citizens • to provide a broad and balanced curriculum to meet the needs of all students including their personal, social and spiritual development. Students at Three Rivers Academy are taught by committed and dedicated staff, many of whom have been with us for many years. We have very high standards of teaching and ensure good practice is shared amongst staff to promote student progress. Independence and engagement in the classroom are priorities at Three Rivers Academy enabling students to become successful, resilient learners. Students are encouraged to think independently, engage in teamwork and ask questions when faced with a problem. Creativity and ingenuity are important ingredients of success in the world we live in today and we expect all our students to achieve, not because we tell them what to think but because we teach them how to think. We believe that young people learn best when they are happy and motivated and as such we always ensure that we celebrate students’ achievements and reward their hard work.

Nurture, Respect & Trust

STUDENT WELFARE At Three Rivers Academy we support all students to achieve their potential and to “bring out the best” in them as learners. We are very proud of our pastoral system and its positive impact was recognised in our Ofsted report (May 2019). All our staff are dedicated to supporting students and fostering a positive attitude to learning. The quality of relationships between students and staff is exceptional and fundamental to every student feeling safe, happy and eager to learn. Students are arranged in peer tutor groups and assigned a form tutor who acts as the first point of contact for students and families. Leading each year group is a Year Leader and Deputy Year Leader who oversees the progress and welfare of students. In addition, a non-teaching Year Manager is available to support parents and students throughout the school day. The House system remains a key part of school life at Three Rivers Academy including the wider enrichment aspects such as sport, the arts, charity and community and enterprise events. Competition between Houses is fierce but friendly!

CURRICULUM At Three Rivers Academy, we aim to bring out the best by providing a rich experience both within and beyond the classroom. We want our students to be motivated and empowered by their learning. We teach a broad and balanced curriculum and a learning environment that is interactive and captures the imagination. We expect every student to be ready to learn, ask and answer questions, and engage with homework. We expect parents and carers to take an active interest in their child’s learning and support with the completion of homework. We recognise that all students thrive in an environment where their talents, efforts and achievements are acknowledged and rewarded. Students’ many successes are celebrated within the classroom, in assemblies, through extracurricular and enrichment activities, at our celebration events and within the wider community. We are also proud of our Character Education curriculum that is delivered as part of our tutor programme.

Key Stage 4 students follow courses leading to GCSE or equivalent qualifications. In pursuit of an individualised learning programme for all students, we aim to provide a flexible curriculum that allows them to vary the number and type of qualifications they follow. In addition to more traditional courses leading to GCSE qualifications, some students mix vocational courses with GCSE choices. All students have access to choices that allow them to gain the suite of subjects that make up the English Baccalaureate.

Pupils have positive attitudes to learning and are eager to do well. They are proud of their school, smart in their uniform, and are respectful of their impressive school building. They feel listened to and involved in making decisions Ofsted 2019

ENRICHMENT AND COMMUNITY Whilst the academic achievement of our students is of key importance, we recognise that extra-curricular experiences develop all aspects of their character.

To equip our students for life beyond school we place a huge emphasis on developing well-rounded, responsible citizens and ensuring our students understand what it means to be part of a local and global community. The enrichment activities offered at Three Rivers Academy enable students to develop their existing interests and experience new opportunities including sports, the arts, musical and dramatic performance, outdoor pursuits and many others. There is also the opportunity to build on the learning in lessons through after school support, trips and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities. We are very fortunate to have good links with local schools, businesses, faith groups and charities which enable our students to access a wide range of additional opportunities and to positively represent the school in the community. Parents are encouraged to be active in the school community, either by supporting Friends of Three Rivers events, sharing and shaping the vision for the future of the school by taking part in parent forums, or by becoming a Governor.

SIXTH FORM We offer a broad and varied curriculum to meet the needs of a wide range of students. Students can follow an A Level, a vocational programme or a mixture of the two, all of which offer progression to Higher Education or further training. Our Sixth Form curriculum is enhanced through enrichment courses such as the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and a range of extra-curricular activities. The Basketball and Football Sports Academies offer an additional opportunity for students to experience high quality coaching and participate in competitive youth leagues alongside their academic studies.

At Three Rivers Academy we pride ourselves on providing a high quality post-16 learning experience to ensure students maximise their achievement in all their chosen courses.

SAFEGUARDING

Our Sixth Form has a proud tradition of providing excellent pastoral care and guidance. All students have a member of staff who acts as an Academic Mentor. The Sixth Form leadership team help students achieve their goals and move on to their destinations of choice, including highly competitive courses such as Medicine and those offered at Oxford and Cambridge universities. Students have access to their own Sixth Form centre in the school with impressive dedicated study and social spaces, purpose built to meet their needs. Three Rivers Academy offers a very positive post-16 learning experience, reflected in the increasing number of students choosing to continue their studies with us.

At Three Rivers Academy we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All adults who work with pupils are DBS checked. We follow Surrey Local Authority’s safeguarding procedures and where necessary work in partnership with other agencies that support children and families, to ensure we address the needs of our pupils with sensitivity, care and confidentiality.

THE HOWARD PARTNERSHIP TRUST

The Howard Partnership Trust (THPT) grew out of a long-standing federation, the first in Surrey, originally formed in 2007 at the request of the Department of Education and Surrey Local Authority. The success of this federation between Howard of Effingham, an Ofsted Outstanding school, and Thomas Knyvett College resulted in the formation of THPT when the partnership’s first primary school, Kenyngton Manor, joined in 2013. The Multi Academy Trust (MAT) now comprises a diverse range of primary and secondary schools across Surrey. All our schools uphold a shared vision in which there is a commitment to ‘bringing out the best’ in young people of all abilities and aptitudes, so increasing their life-chances. Those working in partnership with THPT are justly proud of the strength of collaboration and inclusion present in each of our schools. We believe that by embedding a culture built around our ethos of partnership, inclusion, excellence and energy, our vision can succeed. The inclusive ethos of the MAT is enhanced by a number of Special Centres attached to mainstream settings. Schools within THPT remain local schools and retain their own unique features to serve their local communities. They are all, however, underpinned with the same guiding principles: namely to ensure that a first rate education is provided through consistently high quality teaching which facilitates excellent learning within an inclusive, caring, vibrant environment. THPT schools provide a student-centred, broad curriculum with a personalised approach where the individual student lies at the heart of everything we do.

HIGH COIN CENTRE

The new facilities are amazing and it gives the children a fabulous school to study in and be proud of. Parent

Three Rivers High Coin Centre is situated within the mainstream school building. All students with a specialist placement at the Centre will have an EHCP in place with communication and interaction as their primary need. Students will access the mainstream curriculum for a proportion of their time in school. Placements in the centre are made by Surrey County Council according to need. Within the centre we aim to provide a bespoke curriculum for each student. Students will have access to both smaller group and 1:1 support to assist them with their learning and to support successful integration across mainstream. The centre offers access to specialist teaching and support staff who will tailor a student’s curriculum to meet individual student needs. Intervention and progress will be regularly reviewed and any changes are made in collaboration with the Head of Centre, the students and their parents or carers.
