Wavendon Gate SCHOOL
We grow success!
We grow success!
We are delighted that you are considering us as a school for your child.
Wavendon Gate School is a friendly school where the whole team – pupils, staff and governors – take pride in ensuring our school is a happy and exciting place to be.
‘Every child matters’ at Wavendon Gate School, which is reflected in our commitment to inclusive education. We value children for their different strengths, qualities and beliefs. We aim to ensure that coming to school is a positive experience for everyone and we understand that children learn best when they feel happy and secure.
The ethos of our school is based on the values of respect, kindness, honesty, courtesy, self-belief and growth. We regularly teach and model these values, along with the core British Values. Personal development is at the heart of what we teach – we want our children to grow and flourish into knowledgeable and literate adults with an empathy for others and a desire to contribute to a better world. We have very high expectations of behaviour at Wavendon Gate School; visitors often comment on our calm atmosphere and studious pupils with a passion for learning.
We are all very proud to be part of the Wavendon Gate School family and always welcome visitors to our school so you can see our learning in action.
Kerry Jarman Head Teacher
Pupils are encouraged to persevere and have self-belief. Because of this, they develop positive attitudes to learning.
OFSTED
At Wavendon Gate School, we endeavour to develop children’s character through our behaviour curriculum (The Wavendon Gate Way).
In order to build character, we define the behaviours and habits that we expect students to demonstrate. We want to support our pupils to grow into adults who are polite, respectful, grateful and who put others before themselves. We believe that as pupils practise these behaviours, over time they become habits that positively shape how they feel about themselves and how other people perceive them.

Three behaviour principles underpin ‘The Wavendon Gate Way’. Below are our 3 Rs and included are some examples.

Starting school is a momentous occasion and we are here to support children and families alike as they embark on this exciting journey.
Becoming a member of our school community begins long before the first day of term. A comprehensive transition programme of nursery visits, stay and play sessions, ensure an all-important first day is a time of excitement, exploration and happiness. Through the early years, strong positive and supportive relationships are established with our families. Over your child’s first year, we will welcome you to curriculum workshops, performances, progress meetings, parent networking and more!
We go beyond the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory curriculum; our unique teaching and learning provision is designed with children at its core and driven by the desire to give all pupils the best opportunities and equal experiences.
Our ambitious curriculum is carefully planned and sequenced to ensure our pupils adopt a love for learning and a keen interest in the world around them through carefully planned learning experiences.
My teacher is an amazing artist and he encourages me to try new techniques by showing me how they’re done.
Children at Wavendon Gate School will be great readers so they have access to ‘the best that has been thought and said’.
We provide our pupils with a carefully sequenced, knowledge-rich curriculum which challenges, excites and inspires pupils whilst promoting excellent outcomes for all. Our curriculum is designed to enable our pupils to develop a rich understanding of the world and solid foundations for life and further learning. Through carefully planned sequences of learning, pupils at our school are able to develop key knowledge and skills in a systematic way.
We firmly believe that without enjoyment you cannot have excellence, so we strive to deliver a curriculum that allows for creativity and innovation.
Where children find accessing the curriculum, our teachers are skilled in using adaptive teaching to make tricky concepts accessible and break learning down into smaller, more manageable steps. Through carefully thought out and timely assessments, children’s understanding is checked and any gaps in learning are swiftly identified and addressed. Beyond the classroom, our curriculum promotes physical wellbeing, teamwork and cultural appreciation which develops nurturing and well-rounded individuals.
Wavendon Gate is a warm and friendly school with high expectations. The staff and senior leadership team strive for the best for all of the children.
PARENT, MARCH 2024
At Wavendon Gate School, we believe in promoting positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in pupils, staff and parents to provide an environment that enables outstanding teaching and learning.
Everyone will go through ups and downs during their school career and some face significant life events, so we aim to provide children with the tools to manage these changes in a positive manner.
We recognise the uniqueness of every pupil and support them to become responsible, respectful and active citizens. Through our Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE), half termly values and discreet wellbeing lessons, we enable
pupils’ characters to develop, giving each of them the qualities they will need to flourish in society. Pupils are supported to understand the importance of their own mental health and given a variety of strategies to enable them to be mentally healthy.
All pupils complete the active golden mile daily which promotes physical fitness and creates a short break from learning to reset their focus.
At Wavendon Gate School, inclusion is our top priority.
All children may experience challenges with their learning at different times during their school career, and we have provisions in place to ensure that children are given the best opportunities to overcome these challenges.
We pride ourselves in identifying pupils’ needs as soon as they join our school community. Our teachers continuously check the progress pupils are making and adapt their teaching accordingly to ensure all pupils’ needs are net. When a pupil has a significant individual need, we make reasonable adjustments to our provision in order to ensure that their need is met. Sometimes our Special Educational Needs Disability Coordinator (SENDCO) may request support from outside agencies, such as the Educational Psychologist and Outreach Teams, to ensure our support is as targeted as possible for our pupils. Where pupils have an identified learning need, regular meetings between class teachers, SENDCO and parents take place to keep them informed and provide the opportunity for parents to share their views.
Leaders have created a culture of high expectations for all, including for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (send). OFSTED
I love learning new words in English and testing my parents to see if they know what they mean!
YEAR 3 PUPIL
We believe that enrichment opportunities are an important aspect to school life as they help to bring our curriculum to life and create lifelong memories.
Pupils at Wavendon Gate School have many exciting trips to look forward to such as LegoLand Windsor, Harry Potter Studios, Bletchley Park, Hampton Court, MK Theatre and The Natural History Museum in Oxford to name a few!
Our carefully planned residential visits to Willersley Castle in the Peak District and a sleepover at Whipsnade Zoo enable pupils to develop their team building skills and resilience.
We also invite visitors into school to strengthen our curriculum. These include local religious leaders, circus workshops, birds of prey, historians, local police officers, librarians and even a mobile farm where the whole school enjoy seeing a variety of furry friends up close!
We offer a wide variety of lunchtime and after school clubs weekly ranging from sports, music, art, cookery and a weekly online quiz club where our pupils get to test their knowledge against other students across the county.
In our experience, the teachers have always taken the time to understand our children, not just academically but their passions and they work really hard to help nurture those passions and interests.
